THE MONSTERS WE DEFY | LESLYE PENELOPE

Pickpick

This book set in Washington D.C. during the 1920's was a great read. Clara sees spirits, or what she calls Engimas. I loved the way that the supernatural aspects were handled in this story. It reminded me a bit of the graphic novel series BitterRoot.

There are great characters, wonderful descriptions of the setting, and action and adventure I wasn't expecting.

Normally this is the type of book I would love, but it took too long for the story to really catch my interest. Starting out with an unidentified man who can't remember anything was intriguing, but until he encounters other people he really is just a flat, boring character. His flashes of memories were at times confusing. However, once he meets the young boy I couldn't stop reading and had to know what happened.

BarbaraBB Great picture! Very Spanish, I hope you‘re enjoying it! The book sounds so good too. It‘s supernatural right? I am a bit on the fence because of that 🤷🏻‍♀️ 4mo
