The game is afoot as Charlotte Holmes returns in USA Today bestselling author Sherry Thomas's Victorian-set Lady Sherlock series. Being shunned by Society gives Charlotte Holmes the time and freedom to put her extraordinary powers of deduction to good use. As "Sherlock Holmes, consulting detective," aided by the capable Mrs. Watson, she's had great success helping with all manner of inquiries, but she's not prepared for the new client who arrives at her Upper Baker Street office. Lady Ingram, wife of Charlotte's dear friend and benefactor, wants Sherlock Holmes to find her first love, who failed to show up at their annual rendezvous. Matters of loyalty and discretion aside, the case becomes even more personal for Charlotte as the missing man is none other than Myron Finch, her illegitimate half brother. In the meanwhile, Charlotte wrestles with a surprising proposal of marriage, a mysterious stranger woos her sister Livia, and an unidentified body surfaces where least expected. Charlotte's investigative prowess is challenged as never before: Can she find her brother in time--or will he, too, end up as a nameless corpse somewhere in the belly of London?

Love this whole couple of paragraphs. Most especially: “God gives us only one life. But with good books, we can live a hundred, even a thousand lives in the time we are allotted on this earth.”

I wish I had not waited so long to read this. She brought in a lot of plot points from the first book that I didn‘t remember AT ALL. But, still enjoyable. I think I need to read the 3rd one ASAP.

Not much reading for me today. I didn't really watch the game, and evidently didn't miss much. Normally I read, but this year I did laundry and helped my oldest with his science fair project display poster. The kid did not inherit my crafting gene, and can't be bothered to cut a straight line. So, I've been his proofreader and artistic consultant.😄 Stole about an hour with this book tonight before night night time. I'm really liking this series.

I found the plot of this #audiobook difficult to follow. Maybe it‘s easier when one reads the printed version. Also, I listened at bedtime and frequently fell asleep! It was a nice, light book to drift off to. ☺️

Another great mystery with Charlotte/Sherlock Holmes! I really love how Charlotte embraces the softness of femininity while still retaining a hard edge. As she works to discover what has become of her half-brother we again get to appreciate her pragmatic genius. Ms Watson is a treasure & her lessons in self protection are a joy. I can‘t wait to listen to the next book & see Holmes continue to eschew tradition & expectation to be kick ass!

TheBookAddict Sounds like I need to read this. Have you read Girl Waits With Gun by Amy Stewart? It‘s the first book in the Kopp Sister series and you make like it. While Constance Kopp is no Sherlock, she does break all expectations of her time of what a woman should be and behave like. She becomes the first sheriff‘s deputy in New Jersey who is a woman and is allowed to carry a gun, badge, and catch criminals. It‘s also loosely based on a true events. 13mo
Redjewel_7734 @TheBookAddict I have it & it‘s def on my TBR, just haven‘t been able to get to it yet; I may have to move it up the mountain 😊 13mo

This is one of several audiobooks that I have from Audible that I haven't listened to, yet.

Rae2 I really enjoyed this series. While the idea of a female Sherlock type story isn‘t new, this is a fun take. The characters are really good and developed and the mysteries so far have been lovely twists on the originals. (edited) 14mo
MaGoose @Rae2 Thanks for the info. I enjoy all kinds of Sherlock Holmes pastiches and takeoffs. I look forward to listening to this one. 14mo

I love Lady Sherlock! A pastry-loving, crime-solving social outcast with a ragtag group of fellow female crime solvers, AND she don‘t need a man—YES PLEASE! This is book 2. You don‘t need to read book 1, but it helps. Book 3 comes out next month.

This is the second in the Lady Sherlock series. Honestly, I think I like this one better than the first one. Again, the characters are well developed without taking themselves too serious. I like that Charlotte (Sherlock) is human and has a bit of humor about her. While she is very intelligent, there isn't the smugness or pedantic nature that you tend to find with detective characters. Maximum acceptable # of chins is something I can relate to.

There've been a few "female Sherlock" series that have come out in recent years. Sherry Thomas's version is exceedingly well done. Cleverly constructed, the MC Charlotte Holmes is just so so good. A lot of other retellings focus overly much on the "I am Sherlock so let me impress you with my incredibly observation skills" which is fun for a bit but can get tiring. Here the genius of Sherlock is grounded in superb storytelling. A must read!

KarmonR I liked the main character as well. Too clever to be limited by her gender. 1y

I'm really enjoying the Lady Sherlock series. This is the second book and it's actually better than the first. My favorite character is Livia, Charlotte Homles' sister, who is trying to become a writer and is basing her story on her sister's cases.

I am really enjoying this despite being extremely busy at work. I haven't had much time to read but this book seems to be ok with short reads here and there. I never read the first book so there are some backstory things that are mentioned that I don't know but it doesn't matter I still understand what's going on.

So we had a blizzard over the weekend. Saturday was extremely windy and Sunday it started snowing. We got just over 12 inches of snow. I finished Book 2 of the Lady Sherlock series. I cannot wait for the next one to come out! I wasn‘t sure what to read next so I browsed Prime Reading and found Spinster. And actually enjoying it quite a bit.

You know this was nice. Not nice , like niiiiiice. Smart, clever but not showy kinda look how smart and clever my retelling of Sherlock Holmes of you know who. This remix is smart, clever. Niiice like the perfect but not perfect Holmes. It's fun for the fans to see how Thomas pulls you in and turns you around when you think you spotted something and hits something just right not hiding and going, yeah I went there, enjoy. So much fun and so smart.

Nute I plan to read this, but I think this is the second book. I'm not sure if it is a sequential series. I try to at least read the first book that introduces the characters, and go from there with what finds its way before me. Did you start with the first book? 2y
writerlibrarian @Nute in this case it's essential to start with the first book. It sets a lot of things. 😁 2y
