Day 26 - #EpicJourney #NewYearNewYou #JourneyToTheCenterOfTheEarth #JulesVerne
I loved this book as it was full of excitement and adventure, with slight hints of humor and slivers of suspense. Verne is so creative and imaginative, yet so descriptive, that you feel as if you are there with the trio as they make their journey. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves adventure.
The Kite Runner is the 1st novel by Afghan-American author Khaled Hosseini. Published in 2003 by Riverhead Books, it tells the story of Amir, a young boy from the Wazir Akbar Khan district of Kabul, whose closest friend is Hassan. story is set against a backdrop of tumultuous events, from the fall of Afghanistan's monarchy through the Soviet military intervention, exodus of refugees to Pakistan & the United States, & the rise of Taliban regime.
1932 #Minnesota 4 orphans (Odie O‘Banion, Albert (Odie‘s brother), Mose, (their friend), Emmy (broken-hearted little girl) on life-changing odyssey during the Great Depression. A big-hearted epic that shows how the American landscape connects us all. Krueger is a master storyteller with beautiful prose. Well-plotted and imaginative with endearing characters. Recommended for adult and YA readers.

This quote made me laugh because I went to Catholic school and we did practice our penmanship for at lease 30 to 45 minutes during class. My one daughter teases me about my Catholic school handwriting.
This was a very popular book in the 1960‘s.
Dolls: red or black; capsules or tablets; washed down with vodka or swallowed straight—for Anne, Neely, & Jennifer, it doesn‘t matter, as long as the pill bottle is within easy reach. These 3 women become best friends when they are young & struggling in New York & then climb to the top of the entertainment industry—only to find that there is no place left to go but down—into the Valley of the Dolls.
TV show, Bones, is based upon this series. Tempe Brennan, Quebec‘s director of forensic anthropology, is in search of a serial killer which has killed her best friend and has her daughter in mortal danger. A slow beginning but fascinating look of working in a coroner‘s office. Harrowing plot and characters. Impeccable writing and suspenseful. Looking forward to book 2 and recommended to those who love gripping thrillers.
This is a short quick read and very enjoyable. It was easy to relate to the mother in this story and how all her grown children moved back home and expected her to cater to them. She gives them a dose of tough love and sets them straight. This was one of Maeve‘s last books and as always has a lot of wisdom in it about how to make your children more responsible. Enjoyed reading about characters from her other books too. Highly recommended!
Just finished this audio. A heartbreaking love story about 2 fragile and damaged high school kids named Violet and Finch. Niven‘s writing is excellent despite the difficult topic. Narration alternates between Finch and Violet. Very touching and an honest depiction of depression and mental illness. Looking forward to Netflix movie 2/28/20.

Book starts out slow with dark story of drugs, murder, sex trafficking. Not nice subject matters. Gets better middle to end. Cliffhanging ending leaves things unresolved. Interesting characters. Intriguing plot with lots of twists. Many music references as usual. Not my favorite in the series but still a good read. Looking forward to next book. Recommend to those who love mystery thrillers.
Day 19 - #BookAboutSomethingYouFear #AuldLangReads
While riding through the car wash, the car was moving slowly and the water was hitting the windshield. I got a panic attack as I thought that I would drown if I didn‘t get through the car wash quicker. I know it sounds silly but anyone who has had panic attacks would understand that I cannot go through again. I now fear another panic attack more than the car wash.
