I‘ll say this book is 4 stars. There were parts that made me laugh real hard and others that made me swell with sadness. Overall the book is a good story with characters you grow attached to and twists you do and don‘t suspect.

I‘m halfway through this and really enjoying it. The beginning seemed a little rushed and then there was a period of slowness to the story (needed for character introduction and building though) but overall I am really liking it.

Okay so I invested myself into these books thinking there were only 2 and there is, however the second book came out in 2016 and ended in a way that there would be another book and there ISN‘T. Don‘t get me wrong this is NOT a good read, but when you‘ve already invested your time into 2 books you want to know what happens?! AND I NEVER WILL. there is no mention of a 3rd book for this author and I‘m so mad y‘all don‘t even know. 😂

DaveGreen7777 This was one of the many things I had a problem with Thomas Harris‘s “Hannibal” book. The book was released in 1999 and ended on a major cliffhanger that STILL hasn‘t been resolved to this day! 😂 20h
Brittybuhh @DaveGreen7777 tragic 😂 I just assumed that since the books were older and there were only 2 that was all there‘d be! I searched the web and came up with nothing, so I guess this series is just even more unsatisfying than it was before!!! 16h

The first book was bad, and this one is just as bad and I‘m already over 50% through it. 🙄 I‘m not a quitter though and I‘ll power through!!! (Thankfully there are only two books or I really would have to quit)

I hated this book until about 53%. From 53 until 85 I tolerated it. From 85 to 90 I enjoyed it. From 90 to 100 I went back to just tolerating it. It‘s not HORRIBLE. It‘s just boring. I had a whole in depth review planned but honestly it would all just be about the bad parts. So here‘s a simplified review - it‘s bad and you probably won‘t enjoy it very much unless you‘ve never read an actual good in depth book.

I cannot review this book in just the allotted characters allowed on here so these are my feelings on this book. Highly recommend.

Branwen I feel the same way! I am only about halfway done but I honestly think this book is one of the best things I have EVER read! It's just so magical! 😍 3d
Brittybuhh @branwen right?! It is so good. People are saying they felt the same about night circus so I may pick that up next! It‘s been on my tbr shelf forever now. 3d
Branwen @Brittybuhh Oooh, yes! That one is also fantastic! I liked it a lot! I don't think it is as good as The Starless Sea, but that might just because I'm flying on the high of loving this book so much! 😅 3d

This is my current read and I‘m actually really really enjoying it! Having a male main character is a nice switch up and the plot is unlike any other book I‘ve read before!

I loved this book. I do still stand by my statement that it is important to have read The Raven Cycle before this book to thoroughly enjoy it though. There are too many references to past events and characters to be understood without having read TRC previously. World and character and relationship building in this book was amazing and I found myself falling in love with characters I previously didn‘t have much care for.

I finally got the courage to try and paint my book edges and they turned out beautiful!!

Branwen OMG! SO PRETTY! Do you mind sharing how you did it? I would love to do this to some books! 2w
Brittybuhh @Branwen all I did was tape off the edges of the cover, weigh down the book with a 5lb weight and paint the edges with acrylic paint! Then after it was dry I just bent the pages to crack the paint since it dries all stuck together and then fanned the pages a bunch to make sure they weren‘t stuck together! There‘s a LOT of YouTube videos on how to do it! That‘s how I learned! 2w
Branwen @Brittybuhh That's fantastic! Thank you so much! I'm going to try it out! 2w

I loved the artwork and the story was a very fun read!

I know Maggie said it wasn‘t necessary to read the raven cycle before CDTH - But I read the series and I feel like this book would completely suck so far without the background knowledge from the raven cycle. CDTH has mentioned numerous things you wouldn‘t know about without reading the raven cycle and doesn‘t go into detail to explain these things, which I feel would confuse or underwhelm new readers that didn‘t have the background story.

I‘m going to trade in some not so loved books at 2nd & Charles today and hunt for the raven cycle because I want physical copies of the books. It might snow today so that‘s a great excuse to wear the dreamer hat that came in my CDTH owlcrate. I‘m still so impressed with the quality of that box. Every item was perfect.

This was just a short little story between the raven cycle books and CDTH but it gave a lot of details and background story building!

This was bad. Like next level bad. I hear there‘s a second book which I‘m sure will be just as bad but I‘m gonna read it anyway. (I can‘t stand to not finish a story, I have to know what happens even if it sucks bad, like reaaaaaaaally bad)

Can you ever tell from a cover if you‘ll like a book? 😂 I highly believe in the power of a good book cover. Both of these were in my owlcrate for October and the left I am wary about but the right looks like a book I‘d pick off the shelf myself.

Fairytale retellings are one of my favorite genres of books and I normally love them! However I‘m struggling SO HARD with this book. It seems so childish and has no good character or world building at all. I‘m trying so hard to finish it but I don‘t know if I can. 😭

ThePinkMoose I find her works to be hit or miss. I loved Alice in Zombieland but hated Everlife even though I finished the series. I kept thinking it would get better. 3w
Brittybuhh This is the second time I‘ve picked this back up trying to get through it. If I put it down again I think I‘m just gonna have to DNF it 3w
ThePinkMoose Man I hate that. I love retellings too. Hope it picks up for you. 3w

rroeme I loved it! But everyone is different. 3w
Brittybuhh @rroeme I‘m getting through it 😂 I guess it‘s not thatttttt bad, it‘s just not as developed as I‘m used to. 2w
rroeme @Brittybuhh I think it‘s because it going to be a series so it‘s a little “beginning” if you know what I mean. Lol. And it‘s an author who usually writes 15 book series and this is her first ya book 2w
Brittybuhh @rroeme dang. I really hope it gets a lot better and that it‘s a 15 book series 😂 that would be amazing. 2w
