Cowboys in Hawaii are called paniolo and rather than ask #WhereHaveAllTheCowboysGone ? the cowboys & spectators at the 1908 World Rodeo Championships in Cheyenne, WY wondered who are these odd-looking cowboys? The three unknown riders from The Big Island traveled 4000 miles to compete & came home champions. This book is on my #TBR list & I'm waiting on a library hold. 🤠🌺🏆

chaoticgoodhufflepuff I just finished this! I really enjoyed it! 4mo

JanuarieTimewalker13 I hate when references are lost on me!! I‘ve heard Westworld a lot...but I‘m clueless. I shall investigate. 4mo
LiterRohde @JanuarieTimewalker13 Do you know the premise of Westworld? 4mo
JanuarieTimewalker13 Just wiki‘d it...Nope...but I will get the 1973 film out of the library and start from there! (edited) 4mo

JanuarieTimewalker13 Yay!! My library has it...Yul Brenner!! I saw him on broadway in The King and I...and Of course, The Magnificent Seven Film!! Ok, thank you!! Maybe one day I will watch HBO series on dvd! 4mo
LiterRohde @JanuarieTimewalker13 People build a theme park of the Old West and populate it with androids/robots that interact with the humans in order to give them a good time. The humans can do whatever they want to the androids. But the androids cannot hurt the humans. Until things go terribly wrong. 4mo
LiterRohde I really liked the movie. Yup. Brynner was great. (edited) 4mo
JanuarieTimewalker13 I spelled his name wrong, sorry...Brynner 4mo
JanuarieTimewalker13 I read something about McQueen and Brynner trying to out-ego each other on the set of TMS...they both wanted the close ups...lol...upstaged each other constantly...could be just a rumor. They were both great. The one thing that struck me was the way he danced as he walked...like a waltzing cowboy. Very graceful. I have to revisit that film. I loved it so much. (edited) 4mo
BookwormM I haven‘t seen the movie but I loved the series especially the actress who played Dolores she was so good at being an Android 4mo
SoManyBooksNotEnoughTime i lovee the HBO series, one of my favorite shows ever 4mo
Cinfhen Premise is bonkers ~ in the best way possible😁great graphics 4mo

(Day 18 - #WhereHaveAllTheCowboysGone)

*Perhaps they‘ve gone to television heaven, after the characters from Craig Johnson‘s (pictured, center) Walt Longmire series was adapted for TV. The show, titled simply “Longmire,” began life on the A&E network, then moved to Netflix, where it was cancelled after season 6. Walt Longmire is my idea of the classic cowboy. There are 15 books in the mystery series. (Photos from Google Images) 🤠

kspenmoll Wonderful! Just love your post! 4mo
EadieB @Cinfhen I love Longmire! 4mo

#wherehaveallthecowboysgone ? Perhaps these two paid assassins would know...not that they cared, their job is to find and kill. Haven‘t read this, but it sounds crazy fun!

Eyelit I really liked this book. Have been meaning to check out the movie - but am afraid it won‘t do the book justice... cause movies rarely do 🙄😄 4mo
erzascarletbookgasm @Eyelit should be fun to watch, great cast. 😉 4mo
TheEllieMo I haven‘t read this one, but have read another by De Witt. I enjoyed it but it was a little odd in places. To the extent that my book club now use the phrase “it‘s all gone a bit De Witt” when things go a bit weird!😂😂 4mo

tournevis The thing about cowboys is they were disproportionnally more black, more female and more gay than the US population at the time and waaaayyyy more than pop culture remembers. 4mo
KarenUK Thanks for sharing this...👍💕 4mo
Chrissyreadit @tournevis yes- popular culture skews a lot of information to the detriment of our greater culture. It‘s how minority ideas and uninformed opinions gain stranglehold‘s. 4mo

Cinfhen Wow!! I honestly didn‘t know that @tournevis 4mo
Cinfhen So interesting , Chrissy!! 4mo
tournevis @Cinfhen There are studies, many, but pop culture has not caught up to research, mostly because at the time pulp and dime novel writers (mostly White urban men in the East) did not reflect real life in their works. 4mo
tournevis @Cinfhen Just google Vaqueros and Cowboys of color and you'll find a alot. So many POCs and gays! 4mo
Cinfhen @tournevis 👍🏻 4mo

I love a cookbook full of travel and people and stories and gorgeous photographs and this one is one of those..... every recipe has a history.
This chili recipe, taught to Jamie over a campfire by some Wyoming cowboys, is a favorite. It‘s a recipe I‘ve made many many times... it has brisket, dried anchos and chipotle, cinnamon, coffee, lots of aromatic herbs and spices, and is so delicious! 🤠🔥💕

Tamra Yum! 4mo
Centique Ooh I have this book, will have to make it! I‘ve made the Waldorf salad and the Dan Dan noodles - both very good 😊 4mo
KarenUK @Centique I do it in my slow cooker and it works great... 4mo
