I don't know what to make of Grace: whether she's guilty or not isn't really the point. It's about the necessity of women's remaining spotless while it's accepted that men's nature (and, by a logical leap, tantamount to a right) is to fling paint about at will. I liked the domestic detail, the assertion that the sewing of hemlines is just as novel-worthy as the drawing up of battle lines. But there is still a brittleness in Atwood I can't warm to.

Just Kids | Patti Smith

Welp, I guess I'm finishing Just Kids today! It's been such a great book, I never expected to get so much out of it! I'm reading it for #musemonthlychallenge "celebrity memoir" and for #litsyreadingchallenge #lrc18 "about music/theatre" and thought this would be a not-boring choice--boy is it more than that! ??✨

thumbs up for me! big chunky book with lots of nitpicky details for the big fan. more about his music and creative process than personal details but still lots i didn't know. for example: one of my favorite songs, "Gone At Last," was originally a duet with Bette Midler (who he was dating at the time) but it didn't work out and when they broke up she was replaced by Phoebe Snow! #LRC18

Swing Time | Zadie Smith

so-so

I don't really know what I feel about this book. The first 250-300 pages were so hard to get through, I didn't really connect to any of the characters and the most exciting part of the book for me were Tracey and her experience, which there were way to little about.

merelybookish Smith is one of my favourite authors so I tend to give her lots of leeway. But I was disappointed by this. 7y

Moray_Reads @merelybookish i felt the same. It was like a novel with a split personality and lacked the perfect balance you usually see in hey writing 7y

merelybookish @Moray_Reads I feel like she was trying to DO something dance-like with her writing.. but it didn't work. I like that she plays with the novel form but this one did not wow me like her others have. 7y

I have to say, I didn't expect to enjoy this as much as I did. I am a country music fan, and I have long loved her songs though I've never been able to attend a concert. As this has a co-writer, I didn't expect it to be as clearly her voice as it was, and that's really what made it. #LitsyReadingChallenge #LRC18 #musicamdtheater @jessica (image from web)

Sace I cannot tell you how many times I've read this book. I guess I'm making myself look bad, but as a kid I would read it and as soon as it was done read it again. I was a total fan girl. I did get to see her in concert and she's amazing! 7y
