The Black Notebook | Patrick Modiano, Georges Borchardt
post image

This falls squarely in the 'literary mystery' camp (i.e. the not-fun kind 😋) , so not #kisskissbangbang in the traditional sense, but still fits I think. Modiano plays with the pieces of a mystery novel- mysterious woman, shady characters, lurid night scenes...murder. But instead of an A to B chronology, the MC remembers portions from different times, triggered by fragments of notes he took decades ago. Singular style with atmosphere to spare 🏙

Billypar Thanks @Robothugs for a great month of songs & books for #tuneintonovember ! Looking forward to December @Cinfhen 😃🎶🎁 2y

#TuneIntoNovember #KissKissBangBang 💋💋💥💥I went with a mix of mystery/thrillers & the tagged book of true crime stories with 'kiss' in their titles as there's definitely some 'bang bang' in these too.😆 I've read & enjoyed them all-especially the Karin Slaughter & J.T. Ellison series. A Kiss Before Dying is old school but the book & both movies (1956 & 1991) are worth reading & watching. Mahalo @Cinfhen & @Robothugs for the fun 🎼challenge.💋💋

Robothugs Nicely done 😉 2y

Beartown was a definite #FallFavourite, it gets 👍👍 from me, and with advances both welcome and very unwelcome and the repeated Bang! of pucks against the boards it's also #KissKissBangBang! Phew! Three challenges in one 😁

Streets of Laredo | Larry McMurtry

I have never really been a fan of action-packed #kisskissbangbang type novels, so I was surprised to fall in love with Lonesome Dove. Since finishing #lonedove I have been excited to read the rest of the series but am unsure which book to read next 🤔 There seem to be differing opinions on whether to continue in the order the books were published vs following the chronological life of the characters. Any thoughts on this??

Tamra I‘ve read them and I don‘t recall it mattering. 2y
Suet624 Haven‘t read any of the others but now I want to! 2y
Reviewsbylola Very interesting. I planned on reading the rest in order. 2y

JanuarieTimewalker13 The only LM book, I've ever read was The Loop Group. Don't remember what I thought of it...read it years back 2y
emilyhaldi @Reviewsbylola which order!? 2y
Reviewsbylola They are numbered books. My spines are numbered 1-4 so I was going to go with that. 2y
LeahBergen I read Lonesome Dove first and then read the others in order of publication (Laredo, Dead, Comanche). Hmm... I think you‘d probably have more fun reading them chronologically (Dead, Comanche, Laredo). I always recommend starting with Lonesome Dove, though, which so SO goes against my anal-retentive need to always read a series in order. 😆 2y
Reviewsbylola Yes, chronologically is how they are numbered so I just figured I‘d go with that! I‘m glad I read LD first though since that‘s the one most loved and most well known. @LeahBergen 2y
Daisey I'll be curious to follow this conversation because I'm going to need to read some more of this series as well. 2y
Bookzombie I read Lonesome Dove first and then Streets of Laredo. I‘m going to read the first 2 next year and reread the last 2 on audio as I hear it‘s very good. I like to read series in order but honestly these can go either way. I have seen all of the movies and you can watch them in any order too. 2y

I think the essence of #KissKissBangBang fits this book.

It‘s been an absolute pleasure hosting this month! I know some songs were challenging but you all did great! 😊 I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did. @Cinfhen is solo hosting for December, I hope you all join in! Happy Holidays! ❤️

SilversReviews I think I am the only person who hasn‘t read this book. Well...I should say the person who started it and never finished it. :). Was not interesting to me. (edited) 2y
Cinfhen Loved sharing the hosting duties with you!! Looking forward to October!!! 2y
Robothugs @SilversReviews I had a hard time getting through it. It wasn‘t a favorite for me, nor was the movie. 🤷🏻‍♀️ @Cinfhen Looking forward to it, too!! 😁 2y

Thunderball | Ian Fleming
post image

The phrase Mr #kisskissbangbang was first used by an Italian journalist to describe James Bond. John Barry then used it as a song title to be the ‘Thunderball‘ theme. Both Shirley Bassey and Dionne Warwick recorded #kisskissbangbang but last minute they switched to ‘Thunderball‘ by Tom Jones.
This gorgeous coffee table book was a Birthday gift last yr and the 1961 Pan paperback was my Dads, that I rescued from a donation box!

Robothugs well done!! 😁👏🏻 2y

KarenUK @Cinfhen @Robothugs I am full of utterly useless James Bond trivia! I actually wrote my final written work at Art school (aged 21) on Bond girls! ...‘Feminist Icon or Brainless Bimbos?‘ 😂 2y
