Pretty sure this is the fastest I've ever clocked a #BookSpin, since "The Mystery of the Talking Skull" was my New Year's read. So ... success! My #DoubleSpin is a Spanish novella which won the Premio Ignotus last year in the "short novel" category. My español is muy básica so I expect that one will take a little longer.

Thanks @TheAromaofBooks !

TheAromaofBooks Yay!! Fabulous progress already!! 😁 4mo

Mehso-so

(1969) Eleventh in my favorite juvenile mystery series. In this one Jupe, Pete, and Bob buy an old trunk at an auction. The trunk turns out to have belonged to a traveling magician: among its contents are the magician's trademark trick "the talking skull", and a letter with clues pointing to a hidden treasure. It's not one of the series' best -- too many points that stretch believability for that -- but it's fast and fun as always.

Pickpick

This is a pick only because I feel nostalgic toward this juvenile mystery series (my favourite when I was young). It feels very dated now. On the other hand, I still appreciate the puzzles set out by the author and the cleverness of the investigators, which was what appealed to me most when I was a child.

7th book finished for #FabulousFebruary @Andrew65

TheAromaofBooks I don't remember hearing for this series before!! 1y
kwmg40 @Laurelhel @batsy Nice to see other fans (or former fans) of this series! I thought there weren't too many of us here who would remember it. 1y
kwmg40 @Librarybelle Yes, it is fun. I loved all the juvenile mystery series that were so popular when I was a child. 1y
kwmg40 @TheAromaofBooks It's not surprising you'd not heard of this series. Sadly, it went out of print because of a copyright dispute, which still hasn't been resolved, so it's hard to find the books. 1y
Andrew65 Great 👏👏👏 1y
FlowerFairy Oh wow! So excited to see someone else who loved this series as a child! And I loved the cover art as much as I did the stories. 1y
kwmg40 @FlowerFairy I loved the covers too. I had a good number of books from this series, but my Mom gave them all away to my younger cousins. I'm still sad about that, but glad that others got to enjoy the books. 1y

Pickpick

(1967) Seventh in the Three Investigators mystery series. In this one Jupiter, Pete, and Bob help a British boy whose American uncle has left him a mysterious inheritance and the only clues to its location are in a cryptic letter left by his uncle.

It's a tidy little puzzle, and the Three Investigators do what they do. If you like the formula then you'll like this one too, as I did.

This is my #DoubleSpin read for November.

Pickpick

(1966) Sixth in the Three Investigators series; in this one, the boys are hired to investigate a series of thefts at a movie production location off the southeast coast of the U.S. Their investigation involves a haunted amusement park, pirate treasure, and scuba diving. It's not an especially memorable entry, but it delivers the ride it promises.

Nikki_E This makes me think of the Hardy Boys 2y
AmandaBlaze I used to enjoy these as a kid. 2y
swynn @Nikki_E It's definitely an attempt to imitate THB's success. When I was in the target audience, this was the series I preferred. 2y
swynn @AmandaBlaze Me too! Revisiting them has been a blast. 2y

I have just finished season 1 of Hitchcock Presents, so I thought I'd list my favorite episodes: Into Thin Air (a masterwork of gaslighting suspense that seems to continue to exert an influence on contemporary domestic thrillers); Salvage (so grim & I'm not sure this could be made for network tv today); Breakdown (I recalled this one from my childhood & it still freaked me out. This had one of the most unique POV of the entire season); The Case

vivastory of Mr. Pelham (in this story of doppelgangers the twist is brilliant); Shopping for Death (based on the Bradbury short story later retitled as Touched with Fire & confirms my ideas about what weather does to people's minds); Whodunit (a famous mystery writer is allowed to return to earth to solve his own murder, this one was meta & a lot of fun); Portrait of Jocelyn (I could easily see a contemporary thriller author writing a retelling of this 2y
vivastory It could have also been made into a feature length Hitchcock movie); The Creeper (years prior to Psycho & Frenzy, this one was pretty unsettling). 2y
Megabooks Is this available on streaming? 2y

vivastory @Megabooks I think it's on peacock. I bought season 1 on prime. 2y
Reggie The kid that works at our promotions desk at the casino has a speech impediment and they let him do the drawing announcements and I always think of Hitchcock when he does them because he always starts with a low and slow Good Evening. 2y
vivastory @Reggie 😂 Honestly I like Hitchcock as a host more than Rod Serling 2y

I am making my way through Hitchcock Presents. I just watched Into Thin Air, starring Pat Hitchcock. In the episode intro, Hitchcock says that it is similar to his movie The Lady Vanishes (I have yet to watch that one). I know that a lot of contemporary domestic thrillers have cited noir, but this "situation tragedy" of intricate gaslighting seems to be a major influence. Definitely my favorite in season 1 so far.

rubyslippersreads I just signed up for a cheap Peacock subscription and saw these AHP episodes listed. I‘ll have to look for this one. 2y
vivastory @rubyslippersreads I thought about signing up for Peacock recently. The AHP episodes are great 👍 2y
MicheleinPhilly I just got a promo email from Peacock. $1.99 a month or a full year for $19.99. I had it for a few months a while back but was rather unimpressed. For that price though, I may go for it. 2y

LeahBergen Fun! And I actually bought my friend a vintage copy of the tagged book for Christmas. 😆 2y
vivastory @MicheleinPhilly It's so hard to keep up with the streaming services that I already subscribe to... 2y
vivastory @LeahBergen I was surprised by how many AHP books are in the database!! I'm curious about the books & wish they'd reissue a few. 2y
batsy Oooh nice! I still can't get over that we used to get this on our state TV channels in the 80s. 2y

Pickpick

(1965) Third in the Three Investigators Series, which is without exaggeration the greatest juvenile mystery series of all time, past present and future. So of course it's a pick.

kwmg40 This was certainly my favourite mystery series when I was young. I can't disagree with your statement! 2y
swynn @kwmg40 Yay for Three Investigators love! 2y
