I picked this for #relatedtoapodcast despite having never listened to the podcast. It's not terrible, but I thought it was kind of boring. It's like sci-fi for people who have never read or heard of sci-fi. Too much focus on 'this is funny because it's weird' when they could have just set up a weird world and told a great story. Here, the weirdness gets boring and the story is lackluster and goes nowhere. Guess it's just not for me! 🤷‍♀️

Sarz And that also means that I have finished my winter picks for #booked2019. On the last day of winter! 5y
Clare-Dragonfly The funny thing to me is, they HAVE set up a weird world and told a great story! Several of them in the podcast! But the books just don‘t have any of the magic. 5y

I became a fan of My Favorite Murder late in the game (mostly out of trepidation that I wouldn't be able to handle serial killers), but their combination of mystery, comedy, and friendship is perfect. This book captures all the bits of wisdom that fans of the show adore.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was a tough read but a good one. I really felt for Sadie and I liked the way the podcast was used in the story. I‘ve seen a lot of complaints about the ending, but I personally thought it was perfect.

Cinfhen The ending didn‘t really bother me but it just felt careless/ easy/ lazy. IDK 🤷‍♀️I think I‘m the only one who just wasn‘t impressed with this story. I‘m glad you liked it!!! 5y
JohannaRose @Cinfhen I agree with you that I felt like I didn‘t really understand why everyone loved this book so much? I agree there were some really awesome aspects (like the formatting) and it was an intense story! But I really hate open ended books so maybe if the end tied it up better I would have felt differently? 🤷🏼‍♀️ 5y
Cinfhen I keep thinking something must be wrong with me as a reader because this book felt very cliched and I thought the writing and plot was average at best @JohannaRose 🤷‍♀️ 5y

Subject is interesting but delivery wasn't. Found the writing repetitive, the tone exaggerated, the narrative simplistic. Overuse of redundant comments. It's a verbatim of the podcast- could have done with more editing to make it more reader friendly.Gets better as you read on, stories are spookier, writing flows better, but it doesn't quite forego the irritating banalities and moralistic quips.

Cinfhen Lots of mixed reviews on this book. Most felt like the podcast was wayyyy better than book 5y
YasmiNova I agree @Cinfhen - at least with the audio the narrator can bring the stories to life. The book just needed rewording and reorganising (and fewer comments about the terrible places and people in this world - the stories showcase that enough) and it would have been a much less grating read... 5y

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I had never listened to a podcast prior to this challenge but I'm glad I finally did because I enjoyed the experience. The Girls had me hooked, felt like an episode of Dateline and I just HAD to know what happened to them! The book did not disappoint and after it got going it was a suspenseful page turner. The ending wasn't what I was expecting but still the book left me satisfied.

Cinfhen Glad you enjoyed this one!!! 5y
mrp27 @Cinfhen The podcast really sucked me in! 5y
MMFinck The ending?!!! Ugh! 5y

This book was incredibly sad but very well done. The poignancy was in the things that were left out, leaving you to read between the horrible lines. It was not an easy read, and I feel you need to go in aware that there are a lot of triggers (abuse, addiction, violence). But these stories need to be told, even if it hurts to do so 💔

This was the second time that I read this book. The new Podcast with Oprah and Eckhart Tolle was the impetus. Thought provoking philosophy on living a life filled with peace and awareness. A classic. #booked2019 #relatedtoapodcast

I like Adam Grant, and for the most part, this book was no exception. It could easily have been longer, I felt like some topics were brushed over too quickly, and needed more depth. However, its readability and light-hearted tone probably makes this more appealing to a wider variety of readers.
