Who knew little league Summerball could be so contentious - and deadly??

Fortunately, Meg is there to straighten things out! She, along with Chief Burke and Mayor Randall Shiffley keep Caerphilly running smoothly. It‘s a little stressful that Meg takes on so much, but so satisfying that she and her notebook-that-tells-her-when-to-breathe can get so much done! In this case, cleaning up the ball field (literally and figuratively!)

The North Water | Ian McGuire

A tense and fast-paced historical thriller set on a 19th century whaling ship in the Arctic waters. I really liked this novel but also found some parts quite disturbing, so I'm not sure if I'm up to watching the miniseries based on the book.

Librarybelle I don‘t know much about this novel, but I would imagine, just judging by the subject matter, that parts of this would be disturbing 13mo
TheAromaofBooks Great progress!! 13mo
kwmg40 @Librarybelle This book supposedly belongs in the category of “realist literature“ and the author doesn't shy away from showing the grittiness and violence of that time and place. 13mo
kwmg40 @TheAromaofBooks Thanks for the encouragement! 13mo

I loved this book! It tells the story of the author Ezra Jack Keats. His parents were Polish immigrants who settled in Brooklyn. Jacob (Jack) was born in 1916. A moving story of his desire to be an artist. He loved a series of photos from Life magazine of a charming brown skinned child. Twenty years later, he used the images to inspire his drawings for “The Snowy Day”.

5feet.of.fury I assumed that author was Black this whole time and I probably read The Snowy Day to 115 preschoolers 155 times each 😅 I don‘t know why but that blows my mind that he‘s Polish. 1y
DivineDiana @5feet.of.fury And he is Jewish. I hope you can read the book. It will give you an appreciation of him, not only as a writer and artist, but as a human being. 1y

AshleyHoss820 Snowy Day is one of my absolute favorite books! I love the story behind it, as well! I‘m thinking of making copies of the illustrations (I don‘t think I could tear pages out of a book) and using them as decorations! 🧡 1y
DivineDiana @AshleyHoss820 I could not tear out book pages either. There are some prints available on Etsy! Look what I found on Etsy: https://www.etsy.com/listing/906837126/the-snowy-day-ezra-jack-keats?ref=share_v... 1y

Girl's Story | Annie Ernaux

Ernaux is looking back at the summer of 58, the summer she was an activity leader at a summer camp, the summer she spent her first night with a man and a summer that she thinks formed her life in years to come.

I love the way that Ernaux mixes the past with the present in her writing.

I really enjoyed this mystery set in Ireland and featuring a classic musician, a haunted house, and a group of unruly boys. Gethsemane is a strong female character who has seen adversity and accepts challenges. I love the quirky characters she meets and will definitely pick up the second book in the series. #2016 #192025

This charming little book is a modern fairytale. One day Mary meets a small golden snake called Lanmo, and they become friends. As the years pass, life becomes hard for Mary. The city grows colder and darker. Wars start, bombs fall and eventually Mary and her parents are forced to flee their home. Lanmo tries to keep them safe.

Thanks again for this lovely gift Helen, I read it with a cup of your Morrocan tea 🤍

Librarybelle Glad you liked this one! It wasn‘t for me, but I‘ve heard so many others who liked it! 2y
BarbaraBB @Librarybelle I really did. I read that it is being compared to The Little Ofoncd and that is a book I didn‘t like at all 🤷🏻‍♀️ 2y

Told from the perspective of four young adults, this #historicalfiction novel chronicles the final days of WWII and the refugees fleeing the Russian advance. It‘s spellbinding, horrific, and deeply emotional. Sepetys has a way with words and the hook that keeps you reading. I loved this one. #LiteraryCrew #BuddyRead

Need a fast, hilarious, mystery series to read? This one is fantastic and all 5 books are included in your audible membership. Henry Bins is only awake an hour a day and in the first book, he witnesses a murder that he must solve. He develops a laugh out loud relationship with a cat and works to solve a mystery with only an hour a day. Can‘t wait for the next book this summer! #19822022 #2013 #2014 #2015 #2016 #doublespin #february

This is the personal recount of Matar in search of his father and the country he was born, #Libya. His father‘s resistance towards the Libyan dictatorship ended in his imprisonment and disappearance, and tore the family apart. The book jumps in time to phases and places in the author‘s life, always searching for or escaping from the memory of both his father and his country. Definitely no easy read.
