In-depth look at how single women have helped shape America and how American culture has viewed single women. The book covers the topic in relation to religion, work, the economy, marriage, pop culture, politics, and having children.
Made me want to burn the patriarchy to the ground.

As more and more US women are choosing to stay single, and as backlash to this life grows this is an interesting look at at the lifestyle using history, autobiography, interviews and research of today to pull a comprehensive book together. Well written and easy to digest this is a great book for Women's History Month.

Rebecca Traister is just the best and I‘ll read any book she writes. It was interesting to read this now given it was written pre-T&?%!p (I won‘t sully Litsy with the name). Traister‘s more recent book Good and Mad excellently picks up where this one left off, though.

Made Smitten Kitchen‘s delicious pumpkin bread while listening to Rebecca Traister this morning. Feels appropriate after finishing The Power. #audiobaking

Another good book on a #kindledeal today, if you are interested I recommend this one, or any by Rebecca Traister for that matter.
Single women are helping the world get used to working women.

Every session since 1923? It now seems like the least of our problems. (Though obviously not)

Listening to this on the Libby app and very much enjoying it.

I loved this book - as a woman that didn‘t get married til 36 it really spoke to me! It‘s a really good read about female independence- no matter what that looks like for you. #audiobook #nonfiction

The book I need right now...😡🤬

This book isn‘t about how marriage is wrong, in fact, several of the women she talks about ended up married. This book is about giving women the freedom to be single if they want to and respecting their decision to live their life the way they want. Reading this book was so empowering for me, and it also helped me realize how much of our society still needs improvement. I cannot recommend it enough.
Shoutout to @thereadingwomen for recommending

How am I supposed to get any work done today with this gem in my purse?
“Single female life is not prescription, but its opposite: liberation.”

And if you haven‘t read it yet, her last book is on sale on Amazon Kindle today too! 😉

We were in the car for a couple hours so I started listening to this 🎧

I swear EVERY woman should read this book. And pass it along to your men. I am learning SO much!

Not sure what A woman who‘s been married 35 yrs is going to make of this one but I‘ve heard so many great things. Should I play Beyoncé on continuous cycle while I read it? #feminism #nonfiction #readingmyowndamnbooks
I don‘t read a lot of nonfiction, but I loved this. I felt like I learned something on every page, it never dragged, and it supported my feminazgul agenda.

My last book for #readharder2018 !! (Unless I hate it and bail!) I‘m already living my best single life by eating homemade snack mix in bed anyway. #abookofsocialscience

I tried to take a similar shot this year, but none of them could top this photo of last year‘s grumpy party of one. 😂 🎉
Happy Birthday to @thereadingwomen and all the love and thanks to @autumnprivett for helping to make this feminist magic happen. 😻

30/52-🌟🌟🌟🌟/5 - a very thought provoking book full of history, statistics, and anecdotes about all single situations. The first 1/3 got me engaged and enraged, at times. The rest was thorough and interesting. As a single women without kids, by choice, there was a lot of affirmation and new ideas for me to ponder. Whether single or married, I think women should read it and I think regardless of lifestyle. you could see yourself somewhere in it.

In conclusion....,.,,

Fun fact for trivia night! Who knew????

A very valid point!!!

This book is very, very thought provoking and there are many powerful statements like this one. There are also some that make my blood boil.

Squeezing in some reading while waiting for my doctor‘s appointment. I really want to finish this book this week, but life is getting in my way😥.

This statistic is infuriating!!😡🤬😡🤬😡🤬. We can do better. We must do better. Every time I read this and similar statistics, I just want to scream at the politicians and greedy people that continue to create this environment.

Woo hooo!!! Let‘s hear it for the girls! These are great statistics, but there are still inequalities.

This is so true!!! Light bulbs - I have had 3 out for months, but I just don‘t have the energy to replace them. Two gutters are falling down and I finally signed a contract to get them fixed! Living independently (being single) can be exhausting, but I wouldn‘t have it any other way.

I have never heard of these words.... never!

Lots of awesome quotes in this chapter!!!

#myyearwithwill. Even when I am not reading Shakespeare or a book about him, I encounter passages about him! Will is everywhere!

Looking forward to #8INTWO as I have at least 3 books to finish reading and it is miserable weather outside!!!

Starting my weekend by jumping right back to this fascinating book. Hope to finish it this weekend.

NYC does have a lot to offer!!

Another history lesson - 1957 - Amherst College

Interesting historical factoid! “Wombs and ovaries would atrophy” hmmmmmm?

Yeah for single ladies who vote! Now, let‘s make sure all of us are the polls this year! You can‘t complain about the state of our union if you don‘t complete your civic responsibility and vote!!! I voted and I am doing my fair share of complaining because I am NOT happy with the current state of our union!!! Let‘s get this done right in the 2018 midterms!
