Going to finish this one tonight 🥰 I'm really into graphic memoirs right now & want to get a bunch when I go to the library next time. What do you all recommend?

In a true story of sapphic love at a Christian summer camp, I thought everyone would be deeply, dangerously homophobic. Instead there was a mix of aggressive homophobia and accepting folks with microaggressions. I appreciate Maggie's struggles outside of queerness, as people are more than our traumas and sexual orientations. I really felt for Maggie, and all her obsession, angst, excitement, and heartbreak of young queer love. 👩🏼‍❤️‍👩🏽

This is a beautifully written memoir about the awkwardness and drama that comes with being a teenage girl trying to figure out her identity. The artwork style isn‘t my favorite, but it works well with the story being told.

A beautiful coming of age story, but the graphic novel format doesn‘t necessarily add anything to it. The art feels amateurish, which is disappointing, because the story is honest and funny and sad and heartfelt. Still very worth a read, but don‘t expect amazing art.

Finally reading this book, which has been on my TBR list for a long time.

I'm paying for it this morning, but I stayed up late last night because once I started I could not put this down. I've thoroughly enjoyed the several graphic memories I've read in the past couple years. I've stumbled upon most of them, but I'm going to make an effort to seek them out now.

Memoir about falling in love at a Christian summer camp and the struggle about whether or not to come out to friends and family. There are some funny and poignant moments, but I simply didn‘t connect with the artwork. And that ending?!? I realize memoirs don‘t necessarily have neat and tidy endings, but still.

Could be helpful for a young person coming to terms with their sexuality, but not my cup of tea.

I read this because @LitsyGetsGraphic picked it for last month‘s buddy read. It was great!! The illustrations are deceptively simple but Thrash‘s style conveys the story so well.

The part that got me the most was when people told her she wasn‘t really gay. People do this to lgbtq kids all the time. It happened so much that I stopped trusting myself as a kid and that‘s a terrible feeling.

This was a good story of a young girl‘s first summer love. Although nothing much happens — the book is mostly about the longing — Honor Girl isn‘t boring.

This graphic memoir was the March pick by @LitsyGetsGraphic , to be discussed today, so I read it as soon as I got up! I'm really enjoying the genre of nonfiction graphic novels. This is Maggie Thrash's summer of 15 at an all-girls sleep-away camp, where she falls in love...with another girl. The illustrations are beautiful, the writing is honest, but I wanted a little more of something.

I‘m about half way through this graphic memoir about a teenager at Christian camp who is figuring out her sexuality and struggling to fit in. I just started it this morning, so it‘s safe to say it‘s keeping my attention. It has lots of funny moments. I‘m looking forward to discussion with #LitsyGetsGraphic on Saturday.

Started this one tonight for #litsygetsgraphic. Liking it a lot. Being a 15-year-old stinks. Add in confusion about sexual identity while at a Christian camp and you‘ve got one hot mess for this poor kid. 😔

Trying to fit one more graphic novel in today for my mini Read Harder Challenge Task 4 readathon that I had all by myself today. Seemed like a good way to spend a cold gray day.

Maggie Thrash‘s graphic memoir was a great read. Detailing her experience of developing feelings for an older girl at summer camp, the memoir dives into a lot of teen feelings. I liked how the illustrations were simple yet expressive.

A graphic novel memoir about a teen at camp. She develops feeling for an older girl camp counselor. The drawings are simple and colorful. I spent the whole second half saying “just kiss her already.” 💋

This was an incredible graphic novel. Loved from start to finish.

3/5 🌟 I liked this story. But that's about it. Nothing really stood out and although I liked how relatable it was at times and I enjoyed the pop culture references I felt like the character herself never really grew or evolved. I did really like the writing style but I feel overall that I'm missed something.

The illustrative style was a bit unappealing to me at first, but the story quickly drew me in. (Pun intended. 🤓) To realize you're queer in the strange microcosm of summer camp - wow. I rarely get into teen heartache stories, so I was mostly interested in Maggie's friendships, how she began articulating her feelings, and the ways people in her environment attempted to threaten or reward her for hiding those feelings. 💚💚💚
