Help! I need recommendations for comic books . Something easy , not scary , and fun. Maybe manga ?? #maymadness

xxjenadanxx Lumberjanes is cute. 5y
ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled My daughter loves Manga and said if you want “action” manga, try Boku no hero Academia. She says it‘s popular 🤷‍♀️ And if you like romance-type then a good starter manga is Kimi ni Todoke, which she said she “loved to death” 5y

knotmagick Wish by CLAMP. It's an older series, but really good and only 4 volumes so not a huge commitment. 5y

Did you track down the movie after finishing the book (or had you seen the film before reading the book)? If so, what did you think about the adaptation? Major differences? Any quibbles?
#litsygetsgraphic

sebrittainclark I didn't actually realize there was a movie. I guess I'll have to check it out! 6y
LibrarianRyan I was going to do the movie tonight. It‘s on Hoopla as well. I‘m really looking forward to it b 6y
Eyelit @sebrittain @LibrarianRyan I‘d love to hear what you think after you see it! I saw it last week and liked it 😄 6y
cobwebmoth I haven't watched the movie yet, but I would like to see how it compares. 6y

Welcome to the discussion for I Kill Giants 😃

A few questions to kick things off:

Did you have any preconceived notions about the story going in? What were they? Were your expectations met?

#litsygetsgraphic

sebrittainclark Just from the cover, I really thought it was going to be a fantasy comic, so I was surprised when it wasn't all set in a fantasy world. 6y
LibrarianRyan @sebrittain I agree I was expecting a fantasy especially since it was made into a movie. 6y
LibrarianRyan Plus the copy I was reading had the bunny ears and I really thought it would be similar to 6y
Eyelit @sebrittain @LibrarianRyan like you I thought it would be more fantastical in scope... I liked what it was, but it wasn‘t anything like I expected 6y
cobwebmoth I didn't know what to expect, but I too was surprised by the lack of fantasy. 6y

Daytripper | Gabriel Ba, Fabio Moon

What did you think of the book's non-linear structure, the misordered repetition of lives?
What do you think we're to make of the dream chapter?
How do you interpret the book's conclusion?
How about its supernatural instances in chapter 2? Which was your favourite chapter?

#litsygetsgraphic

LukkiAnn My favorite was a last chapter. It was logic conclusion of Bras life. Author show us how his character was developed through his life putting chapters in this way. The conclusion was great and the narration through the whole #graphicnovel was fantastic 6y
Eyelit I liked the nonlinear format, though it took me a bit to get used to it. I think I liked best the chapter when he died at 47 - we got to see his family life and how much they loved each other. I also think the conclusion was very fitting. (edited) 6y
Sace I really loved the non-linear format. It seems very natural. I don't ponder moments in my life in a linear fashion. I think my favorite chapter was the one where everyone spent the vacation at the grandparent's ranch. I think those are the kinds of moments I remember most as well. For me there was always this theme of touching the lives around us so even in death we continue on (Is that too cliché?) 6y
cobwebmoth I liked the format. I think I liked the last chapter best. It was very moving. 6y

Daytripper | Gabriel Ba, Fabio Moon

Daytripper is a book created by two Brazilians and is set in Brazil. Did Brás' story feel very foreign to you? And if so, did this magnify the story or detract from it in your experience? If not, what made Daytripper a comfortable story for you?

#litsygetsgraphic

LukkiAnn This story really reminds me Life After Life by Kate by Kate Atkinson which set in Britain. So there is no foreign in this story, life struggles are universal 6y
