I was intending to go for a Booker book this afternoon, but I‘m tired and feel like something more chilled out. Which I‘m thinking this will be. Meg Mason praises this one … 🤞🏻😊

squirrelbrain I really liked this one - very twisty! 4d

Psychological dramas are not my favourite genre and I was feeling smug that 100 or so pages in I‘d figured this one out. Or had I? Turns out I hadn‘t at all. The writing was great, and I like that it got me!

Cathythoughts Nice review. I do love a psychological drama , and the writing is good you say .. stacked 👍🏻 2w
JillR @cathythoughts I was pleasantly surprised by this one 2w

Read 2 more chapters of Culture Warlords, it's tough going but an essential read. #shesaid
Had a break from it today and devoured Magpie in one sitting. It is so very good, really enjoyed it and absolutely loved the the ending.
I have been completely grounded by my asthma during the heatwave. This means all I can do is try to stay cool, calm and rested. Lots of reading time as unable to do anything else atm. 🥵🔥🌡

This may be an unpopular opinion, but this book was a whole STRUGGLE for me. There wasn't one likable character for me, and I think that I, more than likely, thought that it was a thriller, where, it's actually more of a slow-(not-so-much-)burn family drama. My #bookspin book for July! #bookspinbingo #doublespin

TheAromaofBooks At least it's off the list!!! 3w

Lots of people liked this domestic thriller lots more than I did. Your enjoyment will depend on your tolerance for a narrative style which seems like it‘s telling you what happens rather than showing you. A couple desperately trying to get pregnant, their lodger, an unreliable narrator, a twist…it has all the elements, but it was just okay for me.

Even though June was a total bust, summer vacation starts today and I am optimistic about July‘s #bookspin. I am hoping to tackle some chunkier books, so this list is comprised of what I hope will be page turners.

Jake, Marisa, and Kate. 3 people brought together by the desperation of wanting a child. Marisa and Jake are the perfect couple, until the young, seductive Kate comes along and pulls Jake away. Or is it the other way around? This a psychological thriller that defines the importance of good mental health and how important it is to communicate. Can this relationship survive the desperate call of motherhood?

Kate found it odd that a grown man should have such a regimented yet cloying relationship with his mother.

A couple has problems conceiving and turns to a surrogate. Three-quarters of this book was a pretty good read but the last quarter…And my track record of mediocre books continuesLOL. Hope Litsy doesn‘t kick me out!😀

bthegood I just bailed on one of my current read....not all stories pull me in....sometimes it takes a few misses to find my story groove...hopefully you'll find your story groove soon 😊 3mo

LKK526 @Breanne1 @Eggs @AmandaBlaze @keepingupwiththepenguins @ozma.of.oz @FelinesAndFelonies @jlhammar this is what I love about Litsy two people can read the same book and come away with a different perspective. Most of my friends are not avid readers and it‘s great to have an outlet for discussion. I just wish the allowed more characters! Apologies to anyone I left out 2w

Breanne1 I value the ‘so-so‘ reviews as much as the ‘5 stars‘. I was debating purchasing this one during the $5.99 ebook sale and this review is helping me decide 😄 Love Litsy!! 2w
LKK526 @breanne1. Agreed. I like to be careful so I don‘t spoil a book for others and I don‘t want to discourage a potential reader. Thanks for following me! 2w
AmandaBlaze I admit to sometimes reading the reviews on what I see as a borderline “pick“ or “so-so“ book before I submit. I want to see if there was something I missed. I usually stay with my decision, but sometimes move the book up to a low pick. 2w
LKK526 @AmandaBlaze when I was working I was talking about a book I read that I didn‘t like. I thought it was me but it turns out the attorney I was discussing it with did no like it either. I considered her very smart and perceptive. It gave me the confidence to trust myself although every now and then I fall off the wagon 2w
Eggs Agreed 🙌🏻🙌🏻 2w

Happy Publication Week to this great domestic thriller- some of the twists are easy to see- but it‘s an interesting look at mental health and the pressure of procreating- overall it‘s totally implausible but definitely something that keeps you turning pages! I do think it is a well constructed story- and certainly not one I could put down! A definite discussion starter!!

Marisa and Jake have the perfect relationship and are soon expecting a baby. In order to make ends meet, they take in a lodger, Kate. At first Kate seems like the ideal roommate but soon it is clear she has ulterior motives. This was a fun one with a killer twist. The ending sagged a bit. Thx to NetGalley & @SimonSchuster for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is an odd but very interesting novel about surrogacy, parenthood, jealousy, and mental health. When Jake and Kate hire a surrogate, they assume things will go as planned as they willingly invite her in as their “lodger.” But does anything ever go according to plan? Ha! Regardless, it‘s an awesome storyline that will keep you guessing until the end!

⭐⭐⭐⭐ For publishing year #2021 I chose this book that here in the UK was on top of many to-read lists last year. It was very engaging and gripping. The topics are mental health issues, women's infertility and motherhood. I liked the author' style of writing so I'll want to read other books written by her. I didn't like the end but I still recommend reading it! #19822022 @Librarybelle

This was a gripping, tense thriller about a couple trying to have a baby and they invite another woman to be their lodger. It's about motherhood and obsession. It has some twists and turns which I didn't see coming at all.

What are you reading? 😊

bthegood 56 days, enjoying it, finally in a place when I can read a book that takes place during the pandemic (I think more books might have to pick up that theme if they are present day right?) - 🙂 5mo
BoleyBooks @bthegood - I too was avoiding the pandemic theme for a while. If you haven‘t already, you should read Wish You Were Here by Jodi Picoult. I was pleasantly surprised. 5mo

Marisa moves into a new house with her boyfriend Jake, and they immediately start trying for a baby. But then their new lodger Kate moves in, and things start to become very unsettling.

No more plot for you lot…. I don‘t want to give anything away! Suffice to say it‘s *very* twisty-turny and I loved it!

(I listened on audio, which was fab too)

Cathythoughts Hmmmmm … I‘m trying a sample on kindle 👍🏻 11mo
