I saw the movie and am looking forward to reading the book. What an amazing story.
1) I'll watch American football and some of the Olympics if other people are watching, but I can pretty much take it or leave it. Aside from soccer in kindergarten, rugby in college, and years of highly unpleasant PE classes, I've never really played team sports.

As an Olympian contender in his youth, Louis helped to carry the Olympic torch in old age for the 1998 Nagano Games. Zamperini died in 2014 at the age of 97. Exceptional book.

pickThis book was such a good book. I started reading it because I have a cousin who was commander of a squadron of fighter jets during this time, sadly he was shot down right off the island where these POW‘s were being held, but after reading this book maybe that was actually a blessing. An amazing book about the resilience of humans, what they can go through, and still survive and ultimately forgive largely in part due to their faith. Loved it!!
pickI‘m absolutely unbelievable story. There is such much hate and anger and yet also forgiveness and compassions driving this book. This was an easy, immersive read, and Hillenbrand did a good job making each person memorable and distinctive, so it was easy for the reader to track them.

Both devastating and inspiring. The horrors these men endured were difficult to listen to. My grandmother‘s aunt and two female cousins were interred in a Japanese POW camp in Java, which I never fully thought through until hearing of Louis‘ torments.
The friendships between the POWs and the commitment and allegiances they gave each other were, however, inspiring.

pickThe story of Louis Zamperini‘s life was unbelievable. He experienced atrocities with grace and honestly. The novel based on his life was filled with detail (almost to a fault) but built a beautiful story of his life.

Men subjected to dehumanizing treatment experience profound wretchedness and loneliness and find that hope is almost impossible to retain. Without dignity, identity is erased. In its absence, men are defined not by themselves, but by their captors and the circumstances in which they are forced to live.
This is my reading buddy, Axel. The irony of reading this book while I have a broken foot is just too much. 😆😆
Louis Zamperini‘s resilience and fortitude is just incredible. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves nonfiction. #ww2 #pow

This one is beautifully written and emotionally exhausting. It has been in my tbr stack so long, the cover says, “SOON TO BE A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE.” Soon as in 2014. I can‘t wait to watch the movie after I finish it.

For those of you who think you don't like non-fiction, this would be a great book to try.
