The Sinful Lives of Trophy Wives
The Sinful Lives of Trophy Wives | KRISTIN. MILLER
13 posts | 11 read | 16 to read
Meet the trophy wives of Presidio Terrace, San Francisco's most exclusive--and most deadly--neighborhood in this shrewd, darkly compelling novel from the New York Times bestselling author of In Her Shadow. Brooke Davies is the new wife on the block. Her senator husband, fifteen years her senior, whisked her to the Bay Area via private jet and purchased a modest mansion on the same day. But the home she's come to inhabit feels more like solitary confinement than a fresh start. Though Jack's demanding job requires all of his attention, the neighborhood's razor-sharp security policy means he has complete control over her every move. And just ten months into their marriage, she wonders if the man she fell in love with is worth the isolation. Erin King, famed news anchor and chair of the community board, is no stranger to maintaining an image--though being married to a plastic surgeon helps. But the skyrocketing success of her career has worn her love life thin, and her professional ambitions have pushed Mason away. Quitting her job is a Hail Mary attempt at keeping him interested, to steer him away from finding a young trophy wife. But is it enough, and is Mason truly the man she thought he was? Georgia St. Claire allegedly cashed in on the deaths of her first two husbands, earning her the nickname Black Widow--and the stares and whispers of her curious neighbors. Rumored to have murdered both men for their fortunes, she claims to have found true love in her third marriage, yet her mysterious, captivating allure keeps everyone guessing. Then a tragic accident forces the residents of Presidio Terrace to ask: Has Georgia struck again? And what is she really capable of doing to protect her secrets?

This book is exactly what I think of when I say a mindless read. It wasn't memorable. It didn't require any real effort or thinking. The characters are created from & reinforced by stereotypes. A quick, forgettable book that can be read in one sitting. ⭐⭐💫

Brooke marries a wealthy tech guy and moves to a fancy neighborhood. She immediately befriends two women, Georgia and Erin. Georgia is known as the Black Widow because two of her husbands ended up deader than a doornail and she is getting ready to marry #3. Erin is a Tv news anchor and is fighting for her job. Brooke gets to enter their inner circle and learn all the secrets, which are juicy.

I'm looking for a book like the one I tagged above. A guilty pleasure light read after The Push, Bright Burning Things and Something New Under the Sun.. Anyone have a recommendation for a far fetched domestic thriller with real housewives characters? That's my book! Help me find it!

This was a fast, fun read that delivered some surprises and shocks that I didn't see coming. “Desperate Housewives“ vibes, but better!

I didn't mind this I'd say it sit between a "meh" and an "ok". It's very Desperate Housewives so if you enjoyed that, I'd give this a shot.

I really liked this. It's a mystery/thriller even though the title doesn't make it seem like it would be. Everyone in this book is hiding something pretty major. It was fun discovering what it all was and figuring out what they were all up to by the end. Lots of plot twists. It's fun. I couldn't stop reading.

Loved this one! Super entertaining with a Desperate Housewives vibe. A woman moves to a new neighborhood with her husband where she meets two new friends with a lot of secrets. This book is just fun and a quick read if you like a good thriller with some fun twists! #netgalley

⭐️⭐️⭐️ Presidio Terrace is Wisteria Lane on steroids. New neighbor Brooke quickly bonds with the feisty HOA pres, and the “Black Widow.” Word is she might‘ve offed her two husbands. Wild happenings ensue. This was kind of fun, honestly, but I keep getting hung up on an incorrect, though minor, shoe reference deet; Louboutins are the ones with the red soles, not Louis Vuitton. A trophy wife would know this!

PUB: 20 JULY 2021 #ARC #netgalley

brittanyreads Yikes! I agree, a serious shoe faux pas, for sure!! 👠 3y
britt_brooke @BrittanyReads It‘s such a weird thing to mess up! I mean, I‘m not fancy, but the red soles are a well known thing. Hopefully by publication, it‘ll be fixed. 🤞🏻 3y
Cinfhen That‘s BAD!!!! Even my hubby/ who knows NOTHING, knows a Louboutin from an LV👠 3y

britt_brooke @Cinfhen EXACTLY!! 😆😆 3y
Velvetfur Oh gosh..... I'm sure ANYONE knows the difference between those two shoes! I mean, if you're going to write about designer *anything* then one should have at least a basic knowledge of that designer's work! Have you been able to message the publisher or author about this? 3y
britt_brooke @Velvetfur All I‘ve done is mention it in my review for netgalley. I‘ll def look for this book in July and see if it‘s been fixed, though. 😬 It‘s a decent read, but this really messed me up. 😂 3y
Velvetfur @britt_brooke haha, fingers crossed that it gets fixed!! 🤞🏻 3y

She means Louboutin 👠 not Louis Vuitton. Not that I own any, but I think the red soles are a reasonably well-known thing. #ARC

BarbaraTheBibliophage Argh ... factual missteps are so annoying. 3y
ValerieAndBooks Yes, annoying to read things like that! And I see what you did there @BarbaraTheBibliophage 😉 . 3y
Librariana Oh, eek! 😳 Even I know the difference and do not own anything branded with an LV or with a red sole. How icky to not fact check that! 3y

Cathythoughts Yes definitely a ‘factual misstep‘ 😂 @BarbaraTheBibliophage not good enough 🤷🏼‍♀️ 3y
TrishB I wouldn‘t be able to carry on with the book... 3y
julesG @BarbaraTheBibliophage 😁 Nice one! This would make me go hunting for more errors, or bail. 3y
britt_brooke @TrishB @julesG This is about the 85% mark so I‘ll still finish it, but this hurts my head! 3y
britt_brooke @Librariana Right?! I mean, I know they sound similar, but if you‘re going to reference something, get it right. 3y
TrishB You can report as an error on the kindle. Yes, I am one of those people. 3y
britt_brooke @TrishB I didn‘t know that was an option, but I‘m totally one of those people, too. 😅 (edited) 3y
julesG @TrishB wish I could use that function. But somehow being connected to the German amazon page doesn't allow me to use it. 3y
Lylah What a whack detail to get wrong. Can‘t believe nobody caught that! 3y
britt_brooke @Lylah My thoughts exactly! 3y
Megabooks You can‘t write a book about trophy wives and get louboutins wrong...maybe I misspelled that...but it‘s not my book!! 3y
CoverToCoverGirl Yikes! 🤭 3y
britt_brooke @Megabooks Right?! The book is entertaining enough, but I can‘t get over this dumb detail. If it‘s important enough to include it, it‘s important enough to get it right! 3y
quietjenn Ugh, so sloppy. That would irk me so much. 3y
britt_brooke @quietjenn If it had been earlier in the book, I‘d have bailed. I hope this is changed prior to publication. 🤞🏻 3y

Brooke didn't know what she was in store for when her rich husband Jack moved to Presidio Terrace and became friends with the other trophy wives on the street. When Robert goes missing everyone knows The Black Widow did it. But did she? Miller‘s writing was great and her story was captivating. I promise you will be left gaping at the ending. Fans of "Big Little Lies" will love this one. Out Jul 20.
