Ruthless Gods
Ruthless Gods: A Novel | Emily A. Duncan
The stunning sequel to instant New York Times bestseller, Wicked Saints "RUTHLESS GODS will leave fans demanding the final installment in the trilogy." - Christine Lynn Herman, author of The Devouring Gray Nadya doesnt trust her magic anymore. Serefin is fighting off a voice in his head that doesnt belong to him. Malachiasz is at war with who--and what--hes become. As their group is continually torn apart, the girl, the prince, and the monster find their fates irrevocably intertwined. Theyre pieces on a board, being orchestrated by someone... or something. The voices that Serefin hears in the darkness, the ones that Nadya believes are her gods, the ones that Malachiasz is desperate to meetthose voices want a stake in the world, and they refuse to stay quiet any longer. In her dramatic follow-up to Wicked Saints, the first book in her Something Dark and Holy trilogy, Emily A. Duncan paints a Gothic, icy world where shadows whisper, and no one is who they seem, with a shocking ending that will leave you breathless.

Read the second one because I just wanted to know how it ended. But guess what? Girls still love the bad boys, boys are still @ssholes, patriotism is the basis of all these bad things, and young powerful teens should still have supervision. I know there‘s a third, but I think I‘ll just read an overview of it so I can find out how it ends without having to continue. 5.5/10

The constant betrayal of the character got annoying. I felt like bits of story was missing. One minute the group is traveling and the next Nadya was in the salt mines, is just one example of missing text. With all the controversy surrounding this author I won't be continuing the story, and it's not like I'll be miss anything. The book fell flat and it felt like a chore to finish this one.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (3.5/5)

“Ruthless Gods” is a solid addition to this trilogy, but I wasn‘t impressed overall. I found that I couldn‘t get invested in any of the characters, and the plot got a bit confusing at times. One thing I couldn‘t get over was the emotional whiplash of the ‘I hate you‘/‘I love you‘ aspect of Nadya‘s and Malachiasz‘s relationship and the toxic amount of betrayal in it.

I am posting one book per day from my to-be-read collection. No description and providing no reason for wanting to read it, I just do. Some will be old, some will be new - don‘t judge me I have a lot of books.

I really enjoyed & I don't think it suffered from 2nd book syndrome at all

The story still progresses with good pacing. It's dark with a good amount of character development & plot to keep you turning the pages. The 2 protagonists were relentless & stay true to their beliefs often to their detriment

I highly recommend this series as it never goes in the direction I think it will & it's refreshingly original to anything I've read in a while

4 💫💫💫💫 Ruthless Gods, this series is an entertaining fantasy world. Creative writing style but at times fell flat for me. The odd names threw off my concentration I think I'm getting bored with Young Adult fantasy.

I had a lot of trouble getting through this one- I‘m not sure why. I can‘t pinpoint anything “wrong,” except that maybe I didn‘t enjoy Serefin‘s arc very much. I just felt that maybe that much happened and Duncan kept hinting at action and betrayals to come but didn‘t quite give us enough information about what was going on to feel the tension. I didn‘t not enjoy it but didn‘t feel the drive of the first one.

Dark, bloody, & intriguing. A very slow burn. A lot of intermittent tension & action to keep things going, but occasionally has thick & confusing prose. Don't expect this to be a single sitting read, slow & steady is best. The ending gave some resolution & satisfaction, but also left open some large pieces for the next installment to explain & solve. I am looking forward to the concluding novel in the series & hope for a satisfying conclusion.

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I found this more enjoyable than Wicked Saints. This takes place a few months after we finish Wicked Saints. The world building was done well as well as the character development. I loved the darkness of the story. I did find parts slow and confusing at times.

I love this series. Disturbed Gods, overly emotional teenagers, cute guys becoming literal monsters, blood magic, cults, forbidden love, war; I can't waite for the next one and there better be a next one. I've heard rumors that its going to be a trilogy 🤞🏻

There are plenty of moments during this series where I've thought, 'wait...wtf just happened?'I have a bit of an issue that there is so much telling, not enough showing here and so much is the characters thinking or talking to eachother and I felt like more needed to move out of their heads. However! So unique. Fantastic, macabre imagery. Engrossing characters and I was left going...'But...I want more!' So, take the good with the good I suppose.

BehindthePages I can't wait to read this one! 4y

Sob, Nadya, Malachiasz, Serefin, none have been spared their tortured fates. This author is just cruel. I see the answer to my question is no, this is not a duology and my heart will continue to be slowly shredded, little tears into little pieces.

Starts off a few months after where Wicked Saints left off. The war behind the Travanians and the Kalyazins is still raging, and our main character Nadya is in hiding. She has grown up a bit, is less naive, & not as unbelievably lovestruck. However, this installment is still just as bloody, gory, gothic, & magic-filled. I enjoyed this book much more than the first. I was more invested in the characters, more intrigued, and more entertained. ⁣

IndyHannaJones I enjoyed this one way more than the first, as well! 4y

Okay so at Yallfest someone described Emily as writing dark angsty and broken babies who always have bad things happen to them and I was like nah no way no one is that cruel. Well having finally read Wicked Saints and moving onto this one ummmmm yeah I guess you can really be that cruel but I‘m still hanging onto the small hope that the babies will be okay.
