Rachel's been toeing the line between white and black magic. She doesn't want to be labeled a black witch, but without curses, she may not survive. Society has taught her to believe all black witches are evil, yet not all curses are bad. But if Rachel invokes a curse, her aura will be black. Anyone and everyone will know what she has done if she puts up a circle in front of them. Is it worth the risk?
Another fast paced addition to The Hollows!

It's more than just a book about virtual gaming.
Being in the public eye forces your darkest secrets to surface. Team Defiance will have to conquer their inner demons to make it through the game.
Readers will also venture into the darker parts of drug relapse. Jennings shows how it affects not only the person addicted but the people around them as well. You'll experience the heartbreak addiction causes.
I want more of this world.

If you bleed, blot, burn and bleach.

This is the mantra Molly lives with day after day. If she doesn't follow it, she must kill herself. Every time Molly bleeds, there is a risk a new molly will be created. The mollys start off innocent, wanting simple things like comfort and companionship, but it is only a matter of time until they turn against her and anyone that gets in their way.

This macabre story will take hold of you and refuse to let go.

I absolutely love Supernatural and cooking. I woke up this morning to find that my mom bought me Misha Collins' cookbook for my birthday. I literally did a happy dance and hugged the book close. I can't wait to try these recipes! Has anyone else made a dish from the book? If so what did you think? #cookbook #mishacollins #booklove #timetocook #adventurouseatersclub

OnlyYoo The youtube cooking videos he does with his sons are the cutest thing ever! 5d
Letora @OnlyYoo I had no idea he had youtube videos! I'll have to check them out :) 5d

It‘s hard to speak when you‘re drowning.

Melinda‘s Summer before 9th grade was supposed to be a fun time spent with friends. But when she is invited to a senior party, her life changes forever. An upper classmen takes advantage of Melinda and rapes her.
No one should have to feel alone and isolated like Melinda. No one should have to endure the pain this awful act brings. This is a heartbreaking and powerful novel everyone should read.

I bailed on Throne of Glass. I never thought I would try Maas again, but my book club convinced me to.
I will admit Feyre was a good character to follow. She was independent and willing to do what she had to in order to survive. But the amount of filler in this book frustrated me. There was so much potential and Feyre spends days doing nothing in every situation. I'll give it one more book before giving up.

When she is sent to her grandparent's house for summer vacation, Amanda learns she isn't quite human. As a descendant of the Emaji, Amanda must harness her new powers in order to save her people.
This was everything I look for in a YA. Romance, humor, magic, and adventure. Amanda's antics and teenage attitude made me laugh out loud while reading this. An independently published novel, Denna M. Davis is one author I will keep an eye out for!

wordslinger42 I read this awhile back on Online Book Club! It's not my usual type of book, but I thought it was pretty good! 2w

When video games become full immersion, the lines between the real world and virtual reality blur. In the pros you feel every painful death, but wake up in the real world untouched. Most gamers chase the high of the game, indulging in drugs and alchohol, craving the sensations they feel in the game. This book will take you down the dark roads of adddiction and the battle to freedom.

So many people love this book. I love Holly Black and was willing to give it a try.
I couldn't for the life of me enjoy it.
Jude annoyed me as a main character. She doesn't really develop, or change. And the style of writing put me off. I don't want to read bullet points of a character's past, I'm here for a story! Sorry guys, not a series I will continue.

Caraval | Stephanie Garber

Scarlett was not an enjoyable character. She was meek and second-guessed herself all the time. I hoped her character development would make her confident, but it didn't. There was more relationship building than character development. Romance never sells a book for me.
The mechanics and world-building of Caraval won me over. Full of twists and turns, the reader must decide what is real and what is part of the game. I'm willing to try book two.

The Broken Eye | Brent Weeks
Pickpick

Brent Weeks never ceases to amaze me with his characters and plot twists. His magic system is unlike any I have read before. The Color Prince's war continues to rage in this novel and things only grow more dire as Andross Guile continues to manipulate people for his own gain. Kip, Gavin, Teia and Karris must each find their own way through the obstacles set before them to save themselves and end the war.

Kirito and Asuna must fight to survive the death game Sword Art Online has become. If you read the original light novel then you'll notice some changes in the storyline, but I assure you major events have not changed and they make it a better read! A fan of video games, especially MMOs, will enjoy this series. Of course my favorite part is watching Kirito and Asuna's relationship develop and grow into what I am familiar with from the show :)

Always: A Novel | Sarah Jio
Pickpick

Kailey lost the love of her life years ago, at least she thought, until she finds Cade homeless and unable to even recognize her. Engaged to be married, Kailey must balance between helping Cade and life with her fiance Ryan. I'm not normally drawn into fiction, but the way Sarah Jio paints the characters, they grab your heart and don't let go. I lost track of time, absorbed in this novel. It was heart warming and heart breaking at the same time.

Holidays Are Hell | Marjorie M. Liu, Kim Harrison, Lynsay Sands, Vicki Pettersson
Mehso-so

I suggest this book if you are a fan of an author included in the anthology. If you aren't a fan, the drop in world building can make you stumble. I read this for Kim Harrison's Two Ghosts for Sister Rachel. It felt like coming home to friends I've missed since the Hollows ended. I also enjoyed The Harvest by Vicki Petersson, which made me interested in her Zodiac series, but the other two stories were a bit too sexy for me.

This time Dante comes face to face with her haunted past at Rigger Hall and the atrocities committed against its students, including Dante. Someone is murdering former students and Gabe turns to her for help. Dante is a damaged character who tries to redeem herself each day, but she isn't just battling her own demons, guilt and confusion are attacking her too. Fast paced action and a badass heroine make this a great read.

Mists of Avalon | Marion Zimmer Bradley
Pickpick

A long, but worthwhile book to read. In this retelling of Arthur's legend, you will read through generations of kings, queens and high priestesses to witness the birth of King Arthur, his reign and how it impacts Avalon and Christianity. It is heart wrenching at times, brutal and at some points I wanted to yell at the characters, but it is a book I won't forget. If you have the time to invest in it, I suggest you do.

This was a step up from the last Odd Thomas book. We're back to the comical quips and story telling from Odd as he and Annamaria end up in Horizon Corner. Drawn to the town, Odd soon becomes emerged in saving the Harmony family from an evil presence that has taken up residence. While it was a shorter novel and a quick read, I enjoyed it as much as the first novel in the series.

In a post apocalyptic Africa, Onyesonwu, journeys to save her people from genocide and discover the extent of her magical abilties. Feared and hated by her own people, Onyesonwu travels with a handful of companions who will encounter with her love, magic and even death.
A harsh book, but Onyesonwu is a strong female lead and the culture building is amazing. Certainly an eye opening read and not for the feint of heart.

A quick, simple read. Sisters Amelie and Celine depend on each other to survive. On top of being apothecaries, Celine makes money pretending to see visions, until she crosses Prince Damek and the sisters are forced from their home. They're brought to Damek's brother Anton, and will only earn a safe place to stay if they solve a string of mysteries murders by using Celine's "ability". See through characters and plot, but interesting.

Great read!
Meg is on the run from a man who abuses her visions of prophecy when her skin is cut. She hides in a shifter run Courtyard, where human rules don't apply. Simon, wolf shifter, must decide if she's worth the trouble. Unlike normal humans, she doesn't smell like prey. The humorous struggle as the others learn about humans on a personal level balances well with how Meg must learn how to function in the real world and save herself.
