I have used these books in my previous student teaching classroom with fourth graders when teaching them about non-fiction biography texts. The children loved these books and thought they were so cool. I'd love to use these again!
pickBiography series. Published 2014. This “I Am“ series is a great series of biographies for children about many famous, influential people from the past that have made an impact on today's world. I remember these books from when I was in grade school and I still see them in classrooms today. These are great for learning how to read biographies and teaching the structure of biographies!

In the last couple of weeks I've come to realize that many people do not understand what it means to ban a book. I love how the students and authors are fighting this together and I hope that more people understand the importance of perspective in literature. When you shop for books, support small libraries (esp. schools) by purchasing and donating books they need.
I NEVER post something like this, but this is outrageous and appalling. I'm sure many people on Litsy have seen the CNN story about the York, PA school district. If anyone wants to contribute to get thes books into the students hands, here are two ways. Unbelievable. 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
If you would be so kind, please check out Brad Meltzer‘s Facebook or Instagram page. A school district in Pennsylvania has banned a slew of books about POC and LGBTQ people and he has a link on the story to donate these books to Little Free Libraries in that town. I donated 4 titles. Best $20 I have spent this week. I hosted Brad when he launched “I am Neil Armstrong” and I have recommended this series countless times.
so-soI was not as impressed with this book as others I've read. It was a childlike caricature of Rosa throughout the book. I infer it to mean that a child can stand up for oneself as Rosa, but it fell flat for me. Maybe, it would have been better if the book was of Claudette Colvin who was fifteen to show that children can be activists too. Chaya was able to see the unfairness of segregated schools.

This HF biography picture book is apart of Brad Meltzer‘s ‘Ordinary People Change the World‘ series. This book explains the story of Rosa Parks in a young reader friendly format! www.youtube.com has a Read Along that could be used in the classroom and it includes words on the screen perfect for ELs. This book would be great for Storytelling and having a whole group discussion. #UCFLAE3414SP20

I love the sweet little illustrations that go along with this book. I feel like it makes it more relatable to kids.
pickI love books that incorporate a diverse history. Having something like this in your classroom year round and not just at Black History Month is so important because it shows that representation all the time and values all people's history as American History.

This is a great book for RA's and IR. Rosa Parks dared to stand up for herself and other African Americans by staying seated, and as a result she helped end public bus segregation and launch the country's Civil Rights movement. #ucflae3414su19

pickThis is such a great series and I really loved this one. Meltzer does a great job giving the essence of Rosa‘s story and I absolutely adore Christopher Eliopoulos‘s illustrations.

This shows a heavy topic in a lighter way and bring attention to an important part of history. I‘d definitely have it in my classroom.
pickThis book shows students how to stand up for themselves in a respectful way. It also shows how hard people fought for equality. I‘m not 100% sure that all of the details of her life were factual but it added a lot of good points to the story.
Florence almost always chooses a “Who Was” book for her bedtime story and Genevieve almost always chooses a Nat Geo book for her bedtime story. Tonight they BOTH chose Rosa Parks and earlier this week they both chose MLK. It gets a bit repetitive. 😆 But they have a #hungryheart for knowledge and justice and that makes me happy. #marchintothe70s
Just signed up for my first Litsy swap!😊 I‘m so excited about this one. I‘m all about educating myself on black history (especially the bottom-up narrative of the Civil Rights Movement, instead of the typical top-down version taught in many schools). I promised, when I graduated college, that I‘d do a better job teaching history to my students than I got as a student.

This is an inspirational book and would be a great book for Black History Month in my classroom in the future. Rosa Parks shows amazing strength and the ability to stand up for herself. In the past it hasn‘t been easy for people of color to feel equal. Rosa was one of the pivotal people that help change that.

Part 3 of our #Scholastic warehouse sale #bookhaul. These are for my stepson. Some will be Christmas presents and some will be birthday presents, since his birthday is in January. I know that some of these are usually thought of as girl books, but we will let him decide what he wants to read. Also we decided on diverse books, since we are a diverse family and want him to embrace #diversity.

We're Canadian, but my son was curious about Rosa Parks and we found this cute book series. It details Rosa's famous incident and provides some historical context to the issues we continue to see today.
