Little Red Riding Hood by Trina Schart Hyman is a TL picture book and it has the Caldecott and Golden Kite award. Elisabeth “little red riding hood” goes to her Grandma‘s house because she is sick and a long the way she meets a sly wolf who wants to eat the grandma and little red. At the end of the story they get saved by a huntsman. I think this would be good for RT.

The city of ember by Jeanne Dupran is a SF novel. The story is about a girl name Lina, a boy name Doon, and an underground city. The city has been underground for the past 199 years and things are starting to go wrong in the 200th year. Lina and Doon tries to save everyone in the city but there are some difficulties along the way. The girl who drank the moon by Kelly Barnhill is a F book and was awarded with the Newbery award. The story is about a magical world were a city does a sacrifice every year to please the “evil” witch but really she isn‘t and she ends up raising a baby that was a sacrifice and that child ends up trying to save the witch and the people in the city finds out they been lied to by the elders. Wonder by R.J. Palacio is a RF novel and it was awarded with the sunshine state young reader award. The story is about a boy name August aka. Auggie. Auggie is a 10 yr old boy who lives in New York and he was born with a facial deformity because of this its hard for him to make friends. DrSpalding This memoir by Bell is inspiring. I like that she chose to illustrate it using rabbit characters. I think younger children will be enticed by the images. Remember that you will have to teach the children how to read a graphic novel similar to how they would read a comic strip. 6y
