Again, I really enjoyed the poem that gave the book its name. The way it makes the reader think the bully is a boy, but in the end it is a girl. This addresses stereotypes and also would be a good way to start conversation about not judging a book by its cover.

This is such a fun book that will get students into reading poetry because it is genuinely funny! This book is collection of different poems that have been put into one book.
These illustrations remind me of Roald Dahl, he was one of my favorite authors as a kid.

The drawings and illustrations are my favorite part. I also love how short these poems are. Easy and straight to the point. They are all very funny as well.
pickThe New Kid on the Block by Jack Prelutsky was a book about different types of poems about different people, things and animals. It talks about dogs, Dracula, brothers, bananas, headaches, etc. just numerous types of random things! I think children would really enjoy the randomness as well as these poems are very short for children to read and or listen to. The words used are very kid appropriate and they could easily understand them.

This book of poems is filled with sarcasm and wit that mostly went over my head as a kid. I found a copy recently and got it for my son, but I ended up reading it for myself and I could not stop laughing. It's probably the reason I grew up to be so snarky. 😂 #augustofbooks #booksthatmadeyousmile
