DrSpalding Using the publisher website is a wise choice. I like that you like the strategy of readers theater and hope you will continuously use this in your future classroom. I would always have readers theater scripts going in my classroom. When students finished an assignment early, they could always practice their parts. Assigning their parts as a homework assignment was also part of my regular practice. 4y

Personally, science is my least favorite subject but even I enjoyed this book as it utilized very simple language and was easy to comprehend. In addition, it has STEM connections to biology, geology, evolution, etc.

Don‘t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus by Mo Willems is a Caldecott award-winning book about a pigeon who wants the reader to let them drive the bus, even though the bus driver told the reader not to. The genre is MF. This book would be great to have for independent reading (IR) as the students will surely want to read a book about a talking pigeon.

The UDL principle 7.1 regarding optimizing individual choice and autonomy and the EL principle 26 regarding maintaining a library of supplementary books and workbooks written in simple English, which offer additional illustrations for problems are met by this picture book. 4y

Teachers can have students reflect on a time when they used their words to convey their thoughts/feelings. In addition, teachers can explain unfamiliar terms addressed in the book prior to or after reading in order to promote comprehension. (edited) 4y

nquintus Naomi, I think you're spot-on with your chosen UDL principle and ESOL strategy. Both revolve around vocabulary, and that is what this book is all about! The main character loves words and reflects on how they make him feel, and in order to aid in comprehension for our ELs, we will need to highlight and review the meaning of some of the words in the story. Great job! 4y

dbears1 I really like how you connected the UDL principle to this book. As a teacher we should promote learning vocabulary words as it promotes comprehension.Often times students are reading with knowledge of words. Addressing certain words before reading a book can make the book more enjoyable for ESOL students also. 4y
