Do Unto Otters by Laurie Keller is such a great book to read with preschoolers and kindergarteners to teach them about manners and being kind to your neighbors. I would definitely use this as a read aloud to ensure understanding in the students. ESOL strategy number 8 would be what I would use to continually monitor comprehension with the students. The UDL I would use is 3.2 to teach and actually use the manners #ucflae3414sub18 Bigfoot.com

JayaJ I haven‘t read this book, but I definitely want to look into this book. I think book will be very entertaining to young kids and may even be funny. 6y
emilybanne I love that! I haven't read it yet but it seems like a really cute book. 6y

Holes | Louis Sachar
post image
Pickpick

Holes by Louis Sachar was such a great novel about a boy named Stanley yelnats who has bad luck based on a curse from his great- great grandfather. He is sent to camp green lake where he has to dig holes 5 feet wide and 5 feet deep. I would suggest to middle schools to read this book in a literature circle to be able to discuss the story with other students. UDL I would use is 2.2 and 2.4 to understand the language used and promote understanding!

Kaelya The ESOL strategy I would pick would be 38 to assign to the group short reading to make it easier for ell students and not making them overwhelmed. #ucflae3414sub18 louissachar.com 6y
DrSpalding Late submission. 38 is an excellent EL strategy. 6y

Litsy has not been working well for the last week, and didn't work until this morning and then stopped working. It would not let me put a picture.
This P book is written by a classic poetry writter. This book is filled with great poems to RA to your class. It's great to read one a day and to teach new words. http://www.readwritethink.org/classroom-resources/lesson-plans/abcs-poetry-988.h...

My first book of Indonesian words written by Lindia Hibbs and illustrated by Julia Land is informative NF book and perfect for CR. The book starts with A and ends with Z on all the different words in Indonesian. Students can CR or PR. http://www.readwritethink.org/classroom-resources/calendar-activities/asian-paci... the link above is fun activity for students to learn about Pacific Islanders! Students will

prissy.mooney I think this is an awesome inclusion to any classroom library. We typically don‘t think of islander books for cross reading for ELLs 6y
SierraC Research different Pacific Islanders who contributed to film industry and the impact Pacific Islanders made here in America. My ESOL strategies are 17 and 6, making sure my students understand and providing them with fun videos and pictures of the culture. My USL strategy is 5.1, using different tools of communication so my students see different perspectives and understand the information being provided. 6y

She Persisted | Chelsea Clinton

Pickpick

She persisted by Chelsea Clinton illustrated by Alexandra Bolger is such a good nonfiction book for young girls, it gives them the idea that they can do anything they want in their life no matter what obstacles are in their way! I would have the students listen to a read aloud to really make sure students are understanding the content of the book. The UDL I would use Is 2.1 and 2.2 to make sure the students are understanding the content of the

Kaelya Story. The ESOL strategy I would pick would be 5 and 8 to explain the stories information #ucflae3414sub18 (edited) 6y
DrSpalding This is a biography. It is an excellent anthology or collection of biographies that elementary age students should hear. 6y

The Hunger Games | Suzanne Collins

Pickpick

The Hunger Games is a SF book written a Suzanne Collins, it‘s a New York Best time Seller and perfect LC for your class. The book tells a story about a nation with a capitol and surrounding 12 districts. The capitol sends a boy and girl form each district between ages 12-18 to fight to the death on live TV. https://www.scholastic.com/teachers/blog-posts/jeremy-rinkel/hunger-games-novel-... the link provided above is a activity for students

SierraC After they read the novel they will make a class bulletin if each district. My ESOL strategies are 1-4, students need a background knowledge on dystopia world, as well as encouraging conversation with peers on the book. My UDL strategy is 5.2, I want to expose my students to numerous media for communication, especially with this book and project they can make a pilot chart! PowerPoint or a video instead of a poster bulletin board. 6y
prissy.mooney I loved this book! I love the idea of doing a video or PowerPoint instead of a bulletin board. Maybe have the students help create them? 6y
DrSpalding What a great idea to have students write from the perspective of each district. Nice alignment. 6y

The Umbrella is a RF book written and illustrated by Jan Brett, perfect book for RA in class, especially if your on a topic of animals. The story is about a young boy named Carlos who is excited to see the many different animals in the rainforest. http://www.janbrett.com/mural_umbrella/umbrella_mural.htm the link above is a fun activity from Jan Brett website, it shows the variety of animals and Carlos in a PDF page. Teachers can print the pages

SierraC And students will color the images, they can be as creative as they want! My ESOL strategies are 2 and 4, I want my students to work in small groups and discuss the animals. My UDL strategy is 1.2 and 1.3 students will see the animals from the book but Instead I can show them in a the computer and a video. They can hear the noises the animals make! 6y
DrSpalding This is not realistic fiction. It can be classified as a traditional literature variant or fantasy. Creativity with arts integration is a must in your classroom. 6y

Madeline | Ludwig Bemelmans

This RF book is a classic to me. This is a Caldecott winner and just a funny book. The book Madeline is about a girl named Madeline who lives in Paris with no fear and is always matching. One day she gets really sick and need surgery. The 12 other girls then want to do the same and have a scar like her. This would be a great LC book. This link is all about building comprehension:

GGallegos http://www.readwritethink.org/classroom-resources/lesson-plans/picture-understan... UDL principle 3.1 linking it to knowing someone or havin surgery themself. ESOL strategy 22 to wait and see their comprehension level. #UCFLAE3414SuB18 6y

If you give a pig a pancake by Laura Numeroff illustrates by Felicia Bond is a hilarious story about a pig that is all over the place changing what she wants every minute but coming back to the same ending as when she started. I would use this as storytelling, like I did in class. The students could create a circle and fill in the blanks for each thing the pig does. This book is fantasy because obviously pigs don‘t eat pancakes and hang wallpaper.

Kaelya The UDL I would use for this book is 7.2 because students may be able to relate to themselves as all over the place like the pig or may be able to relate to the little girl if theyre sibling does things like the pig does! I would use number 8 for ESOL because of the images you can create to describe what is happening in the story. #ucflae3414sub18 lauranumeroff.com 6y
Gabylaurel10 This book is so good! It would be great for story telling!! 6y
SierraC I loved this book as kid! I know this would be a great RA :) 6y

This HF is a Newbery winner (not shown), and a personal favorite of mine growing up. The theme of this book is friendship. Katana with her 2 siblings are living on an island when Russian hunters come to kill the otters. This book shows their trials and adventures during the hunter invasion. This is a great IR. This link is a specific lesson for this book:

GGallegos http://www.readwritethink.org/classroom-resources/lesson-plans/have-journal-will... UDL principle 7.1 as students could choose this book on their own. ESOL strategy 11 as the students could relate to the texf. #UCFLAE3414SuB18 6y
