I remember reading this one in its entirety on the way home from a beach vacation several years ago. I definitely liked the premise, but felt the story fell apart in the rest of the series. 🤓

The book Divergent by Veronica Roth is a must read. In the book Veronica Roth creates complex characters, a extremely interesting plot, and a great story full of twists and turns.

I couldn‘t help but laugh at times at how truly bad this was, but that doesn‘t mean I don‘t respect the fans Roth has won herself around the world, and the power that a beloved series like this can have in ensuring the continuing literacy of younger generations. I won‘t be reading any more of Roth‘s work, but I don‘t begrudge anyone who finds joy in it. Full review: http://keepingupwiththepenguins.com/divergent-veronica-roth/ #Dystopia #AmReading

Scochrane26 I really liked (at the time) this one & insurgent, but I loathed the 3rd. She lost a lot of fans of the series with the 3rd. Hopefully, she does better w/ her other books. 3mo
caitlin.reads.books Very respectful review! 3mo
keepingupwiththepenguins @Scochrane26 I've heard that a lot - quite a few people have told me they enjoyed the first and second books, but the third was a stinker. Looks like the same trend played out with the films, too! 2mo
keepingupwiththepenguins @caitlin.reads.books Thank you!! 2mo
Scochrane26 @keepingupwiththepenguins I can‘t remember the timeline of books & movies but pretty sure people gave up on movies because of the last book. I saw the 1st movie only. 2mo

One of my favourite series, only read book one so far, but I'm hooked! As much as I'd love to say I'm Divergent, I could never do half the stuff Tris does 😂

Bailing for now. Maybe I'll finish it someday. Reads too much like the movie which I already saw.

Texreader I liked the movie better. I felt her writing style was very juvenile 4mo
limada @Texreader I agree. It helped me to learn that she was actually intending to write the story of Four but realized she needed details he wouldn't have to complete it. His character seemed much more complete to me. Triss was just... Ugh. 4mo

Pulled and All nighter reading this book!
I enjoyed it a lot, I am secretly in love with Eric 😆

One thing that surprised me was their ages in the book there aged 16 and 18 in the film I would have aged them at late teen early 20's.
Definitely a very enjoyable read now on to the next one. #readingmyownbooks #divergent #reading #books #triliogy

sudi I love this book but didn't enjoy the rest of the series. They never lived up to this one. 4mo
rretzler I really enjoyed this series, but I would agree with @sudi, the rest of the books weren‘t quite as good. I still liked them though, even though the ending was unexpected. 4mo
sudi @rretzler the ending made me really sad 😢💔 4mo

kaysworld1 @sudi @rretzler I think I know the ending because it's different from the film! No spoilers though... 😆 I think I'm out of my reading rut 😊 4mo
rretzler @sudi Me, too. It was actually extra sad for me because as I was reading the ending, we got the phone call that my husband‘s mother had passed away - which was weird timing to say the least. 4mo
rretzler I didn‘t catch all the films. We saw the first one in the theatre and then a year or so ago, I came upon my husband watching something on TV that seemed suspiciously like the last book. I didn‘t watch but he has no issue with coming into the middle of a movie and watching it without knowing what‘s going on. 🤣 4mo
sudi @kaysworld1 i didn't want to spoil the book for you. I never even watched the last film when was it released? 4mo
sudi @rretzler so sorry about that 😢💔 4mo

SPOILER in this review. This book was awesome! I want to get the next one now! Tris and Four? Yesss!!! Amazing. Will 😭😭😭. Why‘d she have to do that to him?! Couldn‘t she have shot his foot or something instead? I mean now her friend is gonna be soo mad in the next book! I would be too! But at least the Dauntless aren‘t being controlled anymore. Why‘d she put the drive with the power to control everyone in her POCKET! Could you not DESTROY IT?!

The Divergent series is definitely a nostalgic favorite of mine. I think I can say that I‘m one of the few readers who thought the ending (of the series itself) was a good (though unbearably sad) one. It was definitely unexpected 😩

One of the best SF series I have read! This dystopian novel would be great for a LC in a upper level middle or high school literature class. https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Browse/Search:divergent is a great resource that shows different lessons and activities teachers can plan around the novel, including a few that align with common core standards.

kennedimartin Using ESOL 10, bringing the LC back together as a class can help promote comprehension and excitement with students. Using UDL 3.1, students can list what they know about other dystopian novels or movies at the beginning of the unit and then compare this series to others they have experience with. #lae3414sp19 8mo

This SF novel by Veronica Roth is still one of my favorites! It‘s taken place in the future where this town is divided into 5 sections based on their personality. You follow through Tris‘ life where she realizes what kind of world she‘s living in. Children in middle school would love this book and it would be good as a IR. It would be awesome if students answered these questions in a PowerPoint form and presented to the class.

taywise393 https://www.learningtogive.org/resources/divergent-literature-guide Some UDL principles that align are 3.2 & 3.3 for the comprehension of the novel. ESOL accommodations that align are 9 and 13 when taking notes on what was read. #LAE3414SP19 (edited) 8mo
audrey.wilson This book is definitely one of my favorites! I like your idea of having the students answer their questions through PowerPoint! 8mo

Divergent (SF) written by Veronica Roth tells how the world would be if you had to take a test and be placed in a certain group based on those results. It‘s not all fun and games in this novel though. This would be a great LC book for 6-12. UDL 8.2 Vary demands and resources to optimize challenge. EL strategy 37 Use language experience techniques in discussing concepts and ideas.

I tried this one a few years back. I have come to the realisation that dystopian fiction really isn‘t for me.

BooknerdsLife I don‘t mind dystopian, Hunger Games is one of my favourites but I just couldn‘t get into this one at all 8mo
Darklunarose @BooknerdsLife I didn‘t mind the hunger games movies. My son adored them so I would take him to see them. But I‘m not sure I can read them either, we have them here mind you for him. 8mo
BooknerdsLife @Darklunarose haha I bought The Hunger Games for my daughter but ended up reading with her 😆 I love the movies too ...but the Divergent movie was just horrible even my girl hated it (but she didn‘t mind the books😅) Hope your son will enjoy the Hunger Games books :) 8mo

BooknerdsLife @Darklunarose ah I hope they enjoyed it? My girl is 19 & read them few years back too, probably around the same times your boys did 😂 8mo

Hot DAMN is this book a joyride. There are not enough words in any language to describe just how amazing this novel is. When I finished the book late in the evening one night, I had to sit there in bed for a few minutes just to absorb all the important morals that the book was able to slip into my mind while reading. After I was able to come to terms with my loss I went directly to my father‘s shelf and grabbed Insurgent. Highly recommend. Read it

#worstcouple #lovehate @ErinSueG @WhiskeyMistress for my worst couple I chose Tris and Four. I loved them together in the first book, but much like the series as a whole, it was down hill from there. Ultimately they did not trust in each and that creates so much unneeded conflict. Then the 3rd book throws the least intimate or needed sex scene. I was so over them by then! I know this might be sacrilege.

Divergent is played out in a future Chicago, and instead of having political parties and government there are factions. You are born into a certain faction. Once you are sixteen years old, you are tested to see in which faction you belong in. Most people who go through the test end up being what they are born, but some people change factions. Beatrice 'Tris' had a choice, but ended up choosing the faction she had admired since she was little.
