Attempting to make my way back to a monthly #PersephonePick with the tagged book. It seems like a good one to draw me back in, hitting a number of topics that I love in Persephone's catalogue - social history, domestic portraits, and London life. Here's to a great read! #CurrentlyReading

LeahBergen I really enjoyed this one! 2mo

Pickpick

I love the Victorian era, so was not surprised that I enjoyed this. It was a good look at the life of a couple in this time period in London. I really found myself getting attached to Jane through her various writings.
This is also my first #Persephone book, the quality is very good, it was a pleasure to read, I see a growing collection in my future 💕

I‘ve decided on my first #PersephonePick of the year!

This social history looks at the everyday domestic life of a couple in 19th century Chelsea, from servant problems to noisy neighbours and beyond.

Read-y_Picker Leah I‘m just constantly in awe of your collections. 2y
vivastory I'd be curious to know what some of your favorite Persephone titles are 2y
quietjenn Oh, I don't know this one at all, so will look forward to what you think of it! 2y

BkClubCare I just requested a Persephone from my library‘s ILL! Was SO excited. (A Dorothy Whipple) BEAUTIFUL collection 2y
LeahBergen @Read-y_Picker Aww! Thank you. 😘 2y
LeahBergen @vivastory Now THAT‘S a loaded question. How long do you have? 😆 They‘re all very much forgotten, mid 20th century novels by women so I‘m not sure how many would fall into your wheelhouse? Someone at a Distance by Dorothy Whipple, Expiation by Elizabeth von Arnim, Guard Your Daughters by Diana Tutton - I think you might like these. I also think you may like the weirdness of The Victorian Chaise-Lounge by Marghanita Laski. ⬇️ 2y
LeahBergen @vivastory You might also like Miss Pettigrew Lives For a Day by Winifred Watson … for a little life-affirming 1930s bonkerness 😆 2y
LeahBergen @quietjenn It seems pretty captivating so far! Well… at only 20 pages in. 😆 2y
LeahBergen @BkClubCare Thank you! I love Dorothy Whipple. 😊 2y
vivastory Thanks for the recommendations! They sound great & I have added them all to my TBR. I will let you know my thoughts when I get around to them! 2y
elkeOriginal @LeahBergen @vivastory Victorian Chaise-Longue is SO weird and SO good! I feel like everyone (rightly!) starts with Miss Pettigrew. Miss Buncle‘s Book is a favorite as well. Miss Ranskill is also odd and very good! So many ‘Miss‘ titles 🤦🏼‍♀️😹 2y
elkeOriginal That photo. That shelf. I am swooning. @Jess_Read_This - check out Leah‘s Persephone shelf! 2y
vivastory @elkeOriginal That one sounds good! Adding to my list. I thought this one sounded interesting too 2y
vivastory I see that @Megabooks & @BarbaraBB enjoyed this one 👆Will 💯 be ordering it 2y
LeahBergen @vivastory Oh! I forgot The Blank Wall! It‘s a fun noir read. 👍 2y
LeahBergen @elkeOriginal 😆 Thank you! And yes, so many “Miss” titles. 🤔 Miss Buncle‘s Book is very much a favourite of mine. 2y
Cathythoughts Lovely 💫 lovely 💫 lovely 💫. I have Miss Buncle ...I must try to read this year 2y
CarolynM Have you been to Carlyle's house? It's interesting in its own right, but also a great excuse to get inside a house on Cheyne Walk. 2y
batsy Oooh, that collection 😍 I've not heard of this one and it sounds really good! 2y
Megabooks I need to get around to Miss Buncle, and I 💯 think you‘ll like The Blank Wall @vivastory . It had some elements that reminded me of The True Deceiver. (Noir, unexpected behavior by/deception of characters, the feeling of being “closed in” to a certain path once they start, but TBW is…louder. It doesn‘t have that Scandinavian feel. It is very much mid-20th century American.) 2y
BarbaraBB This is so gorgeous Leah!! Throwing in my favorite , you might like it @vivastory 2y
Jess_Read_This Love your shelf and pick! And this thread is amazing (and budget breaking) on the titles being shared! 😆 2y
LeahBergen @Cathythoughts I think you‘ll really enjoy it. 😊 2y
LeahBergen @CarolynM I haven‘t! I was just Googling photos of it last night while I was reading. Next time I‘m in London! 🤞 2y
LeahBergen @batsy I‘ve fallen down the rabbit hole of Google with this couple. They are fascinating! 2y
LeahBergen @Megabooks Pick up Miss Buncle after some heavy reads. It‘s a delight. 😊 2y
LeahBergen @BarbaraBB Thanks! 😘 I hope to get to The Homemaker this year, too. 2y
LeahBergen @Jess_Read_This Right? 😆😆 2y

LeahBergen @JenniferP If you like Viragos, you‘ll be a Persephone lover. 😆 I always like to recommend Miss Buncle‘s Book; it‘s a bit of breezy fun. 5y
LeahBergen @JenniferP Or perhaps one of Dorothy Whipple‘s novels? I really liked 5y
JenniferP @LeahBergen thank you! I‘ll add those to my list. I‘m very intrigued by The Making of the Marchioness as well. 5y
LeahBergen @JenniferP I loved that one! Her books (A Little Princess and The Secret Garden) were my childhood favourites and Marchioness very much has that same feel (although in an adult novel way). Buy that one, too. 😆😆 Oh, and another delightful one is 5y
BarbaraBB Good to have you back here 💜. You did have a great bookish holiday! 5y
BarbaraBB @JenniferP I can also highly recommend 5y
Mdargusch I‘m so glad you made a trip to Persephone! Your trip looked amazing! (edited) 5y
JenniferP @BarbaraBB I think I already bought that as an nyrb. Maybe I‘m collecting too many editions already . . . 😬 5y
BarbaraBB It is available as an NYRB too indeed. It was hard choice for me choosing between the two for this book! @JenniferP 5y
