The mermaid is known for her siren song, luring bedroom-eyed sailors to their demise. However, beneath these misguided myths are tales of escapism and healing, which Lovelace weaves throughout this empowering collection of poetry, taking you on a journey from the sea to the stars. They tried to silence her once and for all, but the mermaids voice returns in this one.

I like Amanda Lovelace. I enjoyed her second book and when I finished that I grabbed her first off my shelf and read that too. I thought, I really enjoy her writing. After finishing the mermaid‘s voice returns in this one I need to amend my statement to I love Amanda Lovelace‘s writing.

I do love amanda lovelace's poetry so much and this is another beautiful entry into Women are Some Kind of Magic trilogy. By framing the trauma and damage that so many of us go through in such a raw but fantastical way, it makes it that much more visceral. I am so glad that I picked up that first book and fell in love with the words. I cannot wait to see what the next book will be.

I love amanda lovelace. I didn't anticipate the theme of this one but I loved it. It's the last of the "women are some kind of magic" series and rounds it out beautifully. This is full of poetry about finding your voice again and speaking out after trauma. So good.

This was between a pick and so-so for me. I've never really "got" poetry so I didn't read it unless I had to.
I enjoyed and connected with some of these poems. Others I just skimmed. I am glad I read this book though; moving out of my comfort zone.

2/5⭐

I'm so underwhelmed by this conclusion to the series... I absolutely ADORED the first two books, but I'm gutted that this one didn't do it for me at all. I wish I was able to love it, but it didn't really connect with me like the previous ones. I'm disappointed that I was unable to enjoy this one as much as the previous books, but it just didn't click for me.

I inhaled The Witch Doesn't Burn In This One and keep going back to it. This one I've decided to read more mindfully. A little at a time so I have time to digest it.
My daughter asked me if her poetry "speaks to me" because she caught me tearing up with it in my hands the other night. Yes, yes it does.
She actually said "Mom, are you like crying? Those poems must mean something to you" Same thing.

Stacy_31 I devoured The Witch, but was super disappointed by The Princess. I thought it was rather full of cliche. Would love to hear your thoughts on this new one. 😁😁 8mo

Whether you are #metoo tweeting, marching, or writing poetry I am so happy that we find ourselves at a point where women are sharing their stories in any & every way that feels natural to them, things we‘ve felt the need to suppress for years/decades, because it‘s only by seeing the vast unending collage of experiences that we can see the similarities underlying them all...that were sadly hidden by our silence. May we all find our voices again.

Amanda Lovelace returns to themes of sexual harassment and violence in this collection that includes contributions from other writers. Her tone is less strident than in the other two volumes, perhaps indicating she‘s healing. Lovelace says, in her afterward, that this is the final book in that series. It was an appropriate and hopeful way to end it. That said, this book is not quite as powerful as The Princess Saves Herself in This One.

The third volume of this poetry collection was very touching. I didn‘t enjoy it as much as the earlier ones, but I think that‘s a personal growth thing, and not a fault of the author. A decent amount of the poetry still resonated with me.

I didn‘t like this poetry collection as much as the first two as I felt there was less that spoke to me. Usually every page of her books I am like oh yes exactly. But this one seems to be her most personal one yet as she deals with trauma and abuse. I love the way she writes and how simple words can just rip you apart.

This poetry series has meant so much to me and to see it end is sad but so good at the same time. Princess just put pieces of me together, witch called to my fire, and mermaid is about healing hurts we don‘t know how to get past. Lovelace told her story mixed with fantasy and fairytales and opened up so many people to the world of hurt women go through and it‘s amazing. I love mermaids!

I'm a huge fan of Lovelace's poetry, but this collection fell short for me. Her first two collections in this series felt fresh and boldly honest. This just felt like a bit of a retread. Although I truly admire her ability to bring in painful topics to her work, many of these poems lacked real depth for me. I'd happily reread some of her older poems, but there wasn't one that I could truly connect to in this book. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ #Netgalley

The message here is stark and the writing is very much a 'stream of thought'. I feel like with the rough content of the narrative mixed with the fairy tale implication, makes for an intense read.
The style of the poetry is not my cup of tea but it doesn't change the message. It doesn't change the note to everyone to rise above and live. To make sure every day is yours.
It's a quick read and enjoyable~ take a moment and live.
