Tiamat's Wrath
Tiamat's Wrath: Book 8 of the Expanse (now a major TV series on Netflix) | James S. A. Corey
NOW A MAJOR TV SERIES FROM NETFLIX Thirteen hundred gates have opened to solar systems around the galaxy. But as humanity builds its interstellar empire in the alien ruins, the mysteries and threats grow deeper. In the dead systems where gates lead to stranger things than alien planets, Elvi Okoye begins a desperate search to discover the nature of a genocide that happened before the first human beings existed, and to find weapons to fight a war against forces at the edge of the imaginable. But the price of that knowledge may be higher than she can pay. At the heart of the empire, Teresa Duarte prepares to take on the burden of her father's godlike ambition. The sociopathic scientist Paolo Cortzar and the Mephistophelian prisoner James Holden are only two of the dangers in a palace thick with intrigue, but Teresa has a mind of her own and secrets even her father the emperor doesn't guess. And throughout the wide human empire, the scattered crew of the Rocinante fights a brave rear-guard action against Duarte's authoritarian regime. Memory of the old order falls away, and a future under Laconia's eternal rule - and with it, a battle that humanity can only lose - seems more and more certain. Because against the terrors that lie between worlds, courage and ambition will not be enough . . . For an outstanding series, this one still sits apart from the rest. So many significant plot lines, a character set that grows and changes with eachother in complex (and sometimes terrifying) ways, and COOL SPACE SCIENCE.

The show on Amazon follows up to book 6, but there‘s a whole ‘nother trilogy after that 😉

A thrilling ride, and one that suits its penultimate nature. I was surprised at just how much is packed into these pages. One more book to go.

And I finished Tiamat's Wrath! Now reading Auberon in preparation for the next book's release. What a ride this one was - I laughed, I cried, I gasped. And at the end I totally realised that this qualifies for #frenemies, though to explain why would be a spoiler. #booked2021 @Cinfhen @4thhouseontheleft @BarbaraTheBibliophage

The first line of the prologue is a huge spoiler in the series, so I skipped to chapter one.

This one is the last (so far, come on book 9) of the Expanse series. I read it early in 2020 and then reread the entire series via audiobooks. Each book is a 5 star read for me, and the audiobooks are just as fabulous. Jefferson Mays does a brilliant job with the narration. I recommend this series to everyone who asks and to those who don't ask as well. The show is phenomenal too.

As far as the series goes this is a stellar book with plenty of loss and redemption. I am just in awe how this writing duo generate such good storylines that look like they can‘t possibly hold together but in the end wrap up in such a satisfactory way- not always happy but “right”.

I tried to slow down and savor this final book in the Expanse series. It had as much intricate plotting and action as ever, but there were also many reflective moments as the characters deal with separation, loss, and irreversible change. This series has been a pleasure from start to finish, an epic feat of imagination grounded in science and populated with fascinating, well-developed characters. I will miss Naomi, Holden, Amos, Alex and Bobbie!

One thing I love and always have to remember about this writing team, is their ability to pivot a story whilst throwing wrenches and curveballs every which way into their plots- with enough moving pieces you‘d expect it all to go to pot, but these authors have the literary dexterity to right the ship and reweave their story threads into a better version than my expectations of before. It‘s bananas!

Don't know if it's just because I'm in a good mood, but felt like another one of the high points in the series. Gratifying variety of world building, character development, arc, (fan service) compared to some of the "half" books that set the stage for the next adventure rather than being their own.

🚀 🚀 🚀 🚀 🚀 Another great book in the series. It really messed with my emotions. I've become so attached to the characters over 8 books so I'm always scared to read what's going to happen to them. This is probably my favourite series.

I went to the bookstore tonight and bought books I've already read. 😜

PaperbackPirate Ooh I can‘t tell if your copy of Winter of the Witch is paperback? I‘ve been waiting until it comes out in paperback to get it, but I read it already in hardback from the library. 4y

I watched The Expanse TV series and thought I would read the books up to that point and go no further. Well, i did not anticipate how much I would enjoy them. So now here I am at the end of book 8 having also just binge watched the latest season 😂 Now I wait for book 9 and Season 5. This series is fantastic.

Twainy Truth! 🤗 I have all of the books on Audible & just got the hard covers I‘m missing for Christmas! I‘ve been watching since day one & like you I binge watched season 4!! 🥰 I admit it‘s not my genre but I love it! 4y

Welp, pulled an all-nighter & finished this one at 5 am. Good thing I don‘t have to drive anywhere today! Good book. Sad at times, depressing at others, intense, and full of unlikely solutions to massive problems, but overall easier to take than book seven, even though SOME old friends don‘t survive this book (yes, I screamed NOOOOO!) at least once, and there‘s one scene definitely meant to evoke tears. I NEED BOOK NINE NOW. And some ☕️.

I read the first six books in ten days last year, and then I got really sick of them, and I couldn‘t finish Persepolis Rising because of the horrible things happening. So I checked PR out again, but again, I couldn‘t stand reading it. Instead, I read the plot on an Expanse wiki, and now I‘m reading this one so the next person in line on Libby can have it! Fingers crossed that it ends better than I believe it will. Sigh. #Expanse #sciencefiction

‪It‘s funny to me that I‘ve been reading this series now for about a fifth of my life. It‘s been consistently good, and I find that I‘m really attached to the characters now, and feeling a bit melancholy that the end of my time with them is so near.‬ But I trust the authors to get where they‘re going. Daniel has stuck the landing in each of his high fantasy series, and Ty has had this all planned from the start. Looking forward to it.

Some shockers, some outright "nooooo," and a character I disliked from earlier in the series returned but in a much more tolerable form.

A good setup for the final installment of the series.

I like this entire series. But it‘s 8 books in, so it‘s hard to remember what it was like not to know Avasarla or Amos or Holden. As it is, the individual characters are so cool and interesting and fun, that I frequently lose site of scary aliens or cut throat politics because I‘m too happy just spending time with Bobbi or Naomi. So my spoilers for this book are: Bobbi! Amos! Amos again!!

Incredible installment to the series. It had everything I‘d been looking for in the previous book and more. There were multiple times while reading it when I said “whoa” out loud and had to pause to take stock of what I‘d just read. Absolutely cannot wait for the next (and final?) book in the series.

Devastatingly good. My new joint series favourite - I enjoyed all 4 POV narrators (hooray!) and was on tenterhooks from start to finish. Corey is a master of managing tension - this isn‘t as relentless as Nemesis Games but it pulls no punches. Surprises, horrifying developments, heartbreak and determination. I‘m exhausted, honestly. And deeply satisfied.
