When a devilish lord and a bluestocking set off on the road to ruin . . . time is not on their side.Minerva Highwood, one of Spindle Cove's confirmed spinsters, needs to be in Scotland.Colin Sandhurst, Lord Payne, a rake of the first order, needs to be . . . anywhere but Spindle Cove. These unlikely partners have one week: to fake an elopement to convince family and friends they're "in love" to outrun armed robbers to survive their worst nightmares to travel four hundred miles without killing each otherAll while sharing a very small carriage by day and an even smaller bed by night. What they don't have time for is their growing attraction. Much less wild passion. And heaven forbid they spend precious hours baring their hearts and souls. Suddenly one week seems like exactly enough time to find a world of trouble. And maybe . . . just maybe . . . everlasting love.

I loved this! Despite judging a book by its title, I loved this 😄

Minerva is a plain, bookish geologist. Colin is a 'rake' with quite the reputation.

Their road to love is a thoroughly enjoyable journey.

I loved Tessa Dare's humor and will read more from this author.

I recently got a new phone and forgot to set Litsy back up, which is awful, but I'm back now! Wooo! I'm currently rereading Tessa Dare's entire Spindle Cove series, in order, including the novellas. Super great to revisit a favourite I haven't touched in a while!

Great to be back, folks!

This is at least my tenth reread. The fairytale all of us want is for someone to see us as Colin sees Minerva. Perfect in her imperfections. Beautifully cataclysmic. A monsoon that completely rearranges someone's life- conveniently or not so conveniently. Two sparring partners find it much more amenable to indulge in kisses and confessions.

Continuing on my regency romance obsession, I‘m actually reading this series, Spindle Cove, in order! 😆 Tessa Dare is a solid romance writer. The narrator, Carolyn Morris, does a fine job, but she pales in comparison to Mary Jane Wells who narrates Lisa Kleypas‘s Ravenels series.

This book adds 11hrs for #20in4 bring my grand total to 21hrs with another day to go! 🎉

1. I'm rubbish at finishing series. I've never even finished Harry Potter! I quite often lose interest, especially if aive read a few close together and spotted some of the author's tics.
2.Getting to go to the "big" library. They had a children's section as big as the whole of the local library. I was so happy!
3. I like Tessa Dare's heroes. They're all charmingly flawed. Plus historical.

Delicious, probably her best book. This trope is my favorite of all, the unconventional woman who is less than a standard beauty who is attractive for all sorts of other reasons but struggles to see it in herself.

Minerva is an amateur geologist intent on presenting her fossil findings at a symposium in Scotland, in order to travel there she pretends to elope with a local bad boy/ Viscount. Things go anything but smoothly! Tessa Dare is fabulously funny ! And there‘s plenty of heat 🔥🔥🔥 historical #romantsy 💕

11. A week to be Wicked - Tessa Dare 4.5 🌟And we are back to Ms. Dare

Minerva Highwood is a budding geologist in 1813 and she has discovered a paw print unlike any other. To prove it she has to make the 500 mile trip to Edinburgh. But to do so she needs to fake an elopement to Lord Payne notorious rake.

Let's face it, it would take an unconventional woman to tame a take ... Minerva is our girl! Go Minerva!

Minerva is not your normal young lady. She likes rocks and fossils and reading....and the handsome ladies man that can‘t remember her name. But she has a plan to get to present her geological findings - that could ruin her reputation in society.
Delightful, hilarious, and wickedly naughty. Tessa Dare, this was your best work yet!

Gahh, I just ❤️ Tessa Dare's books! I find each and every one utterly delightful, the perfect #romantsy escape for this rainy Sunday morning. Dare's HEAs may be guaranteed, but the road getting there is always so satisfyingly unexpected. But what you can expect is TONS of humor, wit, and 🔥

Zelma She is still has on my to-read list. I‘m always looking for new romance writers but am super picky. 6y
2BR02B This might just be my favorite Tessa Dare novel. Love Minerva's feistiness, and her banter with Colin. 6y

Mehso-so

Well, I finished it. It's a passable bit of fluff, about par for a Regency romance. I don't know why I didn't like it as well as Dare's other books; maybe I'm in a romance slump.

Minerva and Colin depart Spindle Cove under the pretense of eloping to Scotland, but are really headed to a scientific symposium. Everything goes wrong, sniping turns to flirtation turns to passion, fears are faced and they live happily ever after.

I decided it was time for a palate-cleanser, which is how I think of romance. A little fluffy, a little predictable, but satisfying. I tried to read this one a while back and couldn't get into it. At the time I chalked it up to having read several Tessa Dares in a row and burning out. Well, it was just as hard to get into it this time. I pushed through but I'm just having trouble with this one. Fingers crossed.

Book 2 in the Spindle Cove series and an improvement from Book 1. Minerva hires a misunderstood Viscount to get her to a geology symposium in Scotland. An unbelievable number of obstacles interrupt their travels but provide plenty of alone time. The "I'm not good enough" protests by both characters got a little boring. Time to stop this review before I talk myself out of a Pick rating.

I'm a pretentious jerk, so I always considered romance novels beneath me. That is until I was introduced to Tessa Dare via Vaginal Fantasy book club, and I've been devouring Regency romance novels ever since. Sure they're a bit formulaic, but the courtship rituals! The opulent balls! The dresses, replete with literal bodice-ripping! They're not exactly feminist, but they're a not-so-guilty pleasure of mine.

#SurprisedGiveaway

2BR02B Congrats to @cobwebmoth on the milestone, and thanks for the chance to win! 6y
monalyisha Oh man... have you ever read: Y.S. Lee‘s “The Agency” series? Or “Wrapped” by Jennifer Bradbury? Or “Prisoners in the Palace” by Michaela MacColl? Or Stephanie Burgis‘ adult fiction? All except the last are YA (so less bodice-ripping) but they‘re of a similar era & contain lots of smooches AND feminism! 🤗🙌🏻 (edited) 6y
cobwebmoth Thanks! I'll have to give these a try. 6y

2BR02B @monalyisha I have Masks and Shadows by Stephanie Burgis on my Kindle. Have you read it? The other three just went on my Amazon wishlist. I don't read a ton of YA generally, but they sound like good picks for when I'm in the mood for something more sweet than steamy. 6y
monalyisha The YS Lee‘s are great even for folks who don‘t like YA! She‘s an historian, first & foremost, so that lends a cool aspect to it. Also, her love interests are... top-notch. Same for the Michaela MacColl (though I‘d feel more comfortable giving that one to a teen with strict parents 🤷‍♀️). Lots of ink-stained fingertips & tousled hair. Mmm. “Masks & Shadows” is my least-favorite Stephanie Burgis. I liked “House of Secrets” & “Snowspelled” better. 6y
monalyisha The “Kat, Incorrigible” books are actually my favorite of Stephanie Burgis‘... but they‘re a far cry from your original post. 😉 6y
Scurvygirl "I'm a pretentious jerk" ??That was awesome! 6y
TheRomantiCate Nine Rule to Break is one of my top Romance picks! Rarely do I identify with a Regency heroine like Callie... 6y

This was recommended by @charl08 after I reviewed my first Tessa Dare. I couldn't get it from the library on Kindle, so I splurged on it yesterday. I love the H/h and the growth of their relationship. The secondary cast of characters isn't as strong in this one as in some of Dare's other books, but Colin and Minerva managed to get into plenty of hilariously awkward situations anyway. Very enjoyable.

What a lovely book! A young geologist makes a deal with a rake to get to a geology symposium in Scotland, abandoning her reputation for her passion for science. Along the way highwaymen, tall tales, and of course romance make an appearance. Min is a wonderful heroine. 5⭐s #romantsy

Christy2318 I didn't much care for Min as a secondary character in other books but I loved her in this one. 7y
ScientistSam @Christy2318 hmm, I didn't realize she was in other books but that makes sense. 7y
Christy2318 I think that is book 2 of Spindle Cove series. There is a novella about one of her sisters & and the other sister is in Do You Want to Start a Scandal? Min isn't really in that book though. It was the Spindle Cove books in which I found her irritating. 7y
TsundokuAleax I loved this books. I keep meaning to go back and read the rest. Min is such a great character for what this series is about. 7y

Ok, so I attempted to read romance novels as a teen (Danielle Steel was super popular then) but I didn't like her writing and couldn't get into the plots. I recently picked up a Regency-era romance novel (on a whim) and I've been hooked ever since. Turns out, I was reading the wrong types of romance novels. These days, Tessa Dare, Eloisa James, and Julia Quinn rule my world. ❤💋❤💋❤ #changedyourmindabout #feistyfeb

Minerva and Colin are hilarious. Easily one of my fav rom novel couples. She's a geologist and he's a "rather useless insomniac viscount" and their trip to get her to her geology symposium is the hottest of messes. Everything that goes wrong does in a hysterical fashion. I love Dare's writing- it's fun and smart. Not to mention every female character has her own goals that don't involve marriage. I really rec her books, it's a great fun ride! :)

princess_dennie_pants Minerva and Colin are my favourites! I have read this book about 5times this year, I just can't get enough of them. 💜💜💜 7y
