I‘m not sure if there‘s any one particular book that surprised me but since I found Litsy I am surprised that after suffering from depression on and off for years, I have found joy in reading again. For many years, all I could do was listen to audiobooks. Now I practically am devouring every book I pick up. Continued in comments.

In honor of the lovely #surprisedgiveaway hosted by @cobwebmoth I‘m giving a shout out to The Memory of Things. This book is about a teenager‘s experiences on the day of 9/11 and the week that followed, and I subconsciously avoided it for years because I wasn‘t sure I‘d be able to handle it. I was surprised. Yes, it was raw and emotional, but I‘m glad I read it. It was sensitively done and an important read. I recommend it for adults and teens.

Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine | Gail Honeyman

Congratulations, @cobwebmoth ! I was rather anxious when I started reading this book, because I wasn't sure where it was going, and I worried it would be too dark for me. But I ended up pleasantly surprised by a story I couldn't tear myself away from and characters I cared about.

Fingersmith | Sarah Waters

Congrats, @cobwebmoth !
This book surprised me with its twists and then continues to surprise me with how many people it “clicks” with when I recommend it. I gave it to my sister-in-law (knowing she‘d love it) but then her middle-aged husband randomly picked it up and took it to work on an oil rig in northern Canada. I laugh whenever I think of this burly, bearded man enthralled with a Victorian-era lesbian romance. He loved it!
