The irresistible companion to the #1 New York Times bestseller Dumplin, soon to be a major motion picture starring Danielle Macdonald and Jennifer Aniston! Millie Michalchuk has gone to fat camp every year since she was a little girl. Not this year. This year she has new plans to chase her secret dream of being a newscasterand to kiss the boy shes crushing on. Callie Reyes is the pretty girl who is next in line for dance team captain and has the popular boyfriend. But when it comes to other girls, shes more frenemy than friend. When circumstances bring the girls together over the course of a semester, they surprise everyone (especially themselves) by realizing that they might have more in common than they ever imagined. A story about unexpected friendship, romance, and Texas-size girl power, this is another winner from Julie Murphy.

This was a cute story that focuses a lot on friendships, though it does have some romance. I wasn't too sure about the characters going into the book, but they both really grew on me.

Ugh, I really hated this one. I‘m not a YA reader for a reason. But the #Booked2023 #quietya made me try this second in the Dumplin‘ trilogy. I loved Dumplin‘, so though mayyyyybe. But, nope. I found the main characters grating and one lacks in all self-awareness. Spent most of the book wanting to bang my head on the steering wheel at the behavior of these teens and their parents.

#pantone2023 #persimmon

KathyWheeler I wasn‘t in love with this one either. I‘d really loved Dumplin‘ but this one just didn‘t interest me as much. 13mo
BarbaraTheBibliophage @KathyWheeler And some parts of it were actually upsetting. Dumpling‘ was pretty much all positive. But the white girl entitlement in Puddin‘ was not easy to deal with. 13mo
KathyWheeler @BarbaraTheBibliophage No, it want easy to deal with at all. 13mo

Not going to lie, I think I liked this one better than Dumplin‘. While I didn‘t like Callie very much, I preferred the plot and character relationships to the ones in Dumplin‘. However, I do feel like the characters did not make big enough deals about the bad stuff Callie did, and I also wished they spent more time on the school budgeting with the football team. Overall, a solid read. 5🌟

This Pick is a surprise, since I'm not into Contemporary novels. But I'm happy that Julie Murphy has managed to tell a story, even I just could not not like. Even though both of the MCs were a pain in the neck at the beginning, I started to like them more and more, and started to care about what happens to them. I'm still no into contemporary, but I'm glad that I ended up with this YA novel for the challenge task!

I didn‘t like this one quite as much as Dumplin‘. It took me a while to warm up to the characters. That said, once the story got underway, I was feeling it. It had that mix of feel good, wrong righting, everything will turn out all right warm fuzzies that makes some YA books so special. Add to your TBR for when you‘re looking for something lighter.

Julie Murphy did not disappoint in the sequel to Dumplin‘. I enjoyed reading Puddin‘ and I love how well she intertwined the two stories even though they are told from different points of view. I would definitely recommend this book ❤️

This was a good follow up to Dumplin‘ though I did wish there was a focusing event like pageant in the first book. I didn‘t like Callie at all at first but by the end I was rooting for her and Millie. The whole time I was thinking how different this was from the teen books I grew up with — Sweet Valley High! I wish there had been a Millie to read about then. #BookspinBonanza book 6.

I liked this better than Dumplin‘, which strained credulity to beyond the breaking point, imho. The unlikely friendship became believable by the end, and although I find Millie simple to the point of foolishness at first, I warmed to her by the end. Fun read!

#audiocrafting this afternoon. Starting chore charts for the boys. I'm still waiting on a few things to be delivered to finish them, but I'm happy so far.
I'm really enjoying this audiobook. I don't feel the same connection I did with Dumplin, but its still fun. My only complaint would be the Millie narrator is narrating in a way that sounds almost aggressive, which took some getting used to.

I liked this book better than the first in the series. These characters had more substance in my opinion. The story was about body positivity but also about friendship and fighting for what you want. Great messages. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I think I loved this one more than Dumplin‘. I loved having a whole book about Millie Michalchuk. Callie was frustrating, but she grew on me. I wish that I had books like Dumplin‘ and Puddin‘ when I was a growing up. It‘s so important to see yourself represented positively. I hope Netflix makes this one into a movie too.

Read in July.

Reggie https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=_MwziTE0i-M. I don‘t know if you watch Booktube but this guy collaborated with a lot of Muslim booktubers who are recommending a book. Most of them are young women and almost all of them say it was the first time they saw themselves. It kinda made me 😢 up. Nice review!!! 5y

I listened to this one because I had listened to Dumplin'. It felt like the author loved the characters and wanted to continue and expound on their stories. I never had been invested enough, and this book was more disappointing than the first.

The follow-up book to Dumplin‘ did not disappoint. Everyone needs a friend like Millie—loyal, positive, full of light & energy, . . . and one like Callie—passionate, strong, bad ass. ❤️ While I did roll my eyes a bit at some of the high school antics (was I ever *that* young & dumb?), it was a heartwarming story of friendship & finding your path.

Millicent fuckin‘ Michalchuk (sorry about the curse word; Millie would never approve), I love you.

This companion novel to Dumplin‘ is fun & endearing. You automatically love Millie & even Callie grows on you (with the help of her totally bad-ass Abuelita). Messages about self-love & sisterhood abound, as well as the importance of a little rebellion (but not, like, “destruction of property”-level rebellion; everything in moderation). 🖤

LauraJ I approve! 5y

Oh man, I REALLY loved this. I loved it even more than Dumplin'. Such a real heartwarming story with authentic characters. Millie is a crafty rule following fat girl who wants to be a broadcast journalist. Callie is a popular girl with a jerk bf, no true friends, and super into the dance team. Strange circumstances bring them together, and they become friends against all odds. Wonderful diversity of all stripes, and seriously adorable romances.

Christine Wait, this is about Millie?? I liked Dumplin‘ fine but wasn‘t rushing to read a sequel...but I did love Millie, so onto the TBR it goes! 5y

5/5 stars. Just like hate-to-love romances, hate-to-love friendships are my favorite! Plus-size representation for the win! Millie is one of my favorite characters. She is down to earth, not ashamed of how she looks, and is a loving and caring person. If you liked Dumplin‘, then you‘ll love Puddin‘!

Great companion novel to Dumplin'. I enjoyed this book more than the first. The friendship between the girls that develops is great and I love how they brought in what real friend problems would be, as well as, asexual character and the girls learning a little about that. Finding a way to live your life on your own even with mistakes is difficult but fun and this book showed that.

I really wanted to love this.. I thought Dumplin‘ was awesome and I ADORED Ramona Blue.. but this.. no. Millie is an awesome character and I would have loved the story if it were just her parts.. but Callie is just awful.. I don‘t see why Millie would have ever chosen to be so kind to her, and I certainly don‘t feel she earned the redemption she got.

ChristieWitch I loved the book but had to really push past my dislike for Callie's character as well 😕 5y

Julie Murphy's Puddin' confirms (after Ramona Blue and Dumplin') me as a read-everything-she-writes fan. In this companion to Dumplin', we return to Clover City through the perspectives of Millie Michalchuk (one of my favorite characters from Dumplin') and Callie Reyes (who thoroughly annoyed me in the first novel). Watching these characters work toward a clear understanding both of who they are and of who they want to be is a beautiful thing.

I‘m on the fence between a pick and a so-so. This is a companion novel to Murphy‘s Dumplin‘. Willow Dean plays a minor part, but the star of this one is Millie, the runner-up in the beauty pageant from the aforementioned novel. Millie strikes up an unexpected friendship with popular, mean girl Callie. Though this was a somewhat predictable story, it had some good quotes and memorable scenes.

The companion book to Dumplin' and it didn't disappoint. What a fun enjoyable read. Willowdean has a supporting role in this book but the main story revolves around Millie and Callie. A great read about discovering that sometimes your tribe ends up being made up of the people you least expect.
