Episode 200 of my book podcast drops TODAY 🎉 — and on it, I have the pleasure of chatting with the amazing Leah Johnson about a book by one of her all-time faves, Sarah Dessen. Leah talks me through my first experience reading JUST LISTEN, a book about every serious topic that somehow manages to navigate all of them pretty much perfectly. 🎧 Link to listen in my bio!
32% in and I'm not invested in the characters or plot. Content warning for eating disorder.
I discovered Sarah Dessen's books 10 years ago and became obsessed. Reading as many as I could get my hands on. After all this time, I came across a Dessen book I hadn't read yet and decided it'd be interesting to see if I still liked her style.
Oh she's a fantastic author! If you like Colleen Hoover, you're going to like her. This particular book is so good, I had a hard time setting it aside. I loved her characters. Especially Whitney.❤

The book was simply brilliant and the plot unique. The character development was neat and immaculate. Very well written, and gripping. Sarah Dessen will never disappoint you.

After losing all of her friends, Annabel meets Owen, who from all she knows has a reputation of being angry. She learns that first impression is not everything and comes to terms with her own self impression.
Sarah Dessen was one of my favorite authors for many years and she still has a special place in my heart. Her books are pretty standard teen romance. But I like this one a lot.
Morning reading with my morning coffee before tackling an assignment and a couple courses today! It‘s raining today so the atmosphere is absolutely perfect 😍
This is my favorite book by Sarah Dessen. I love Annabel, and her journey is powerful on its own, but to me, it's strengthened by the added dynamic of her relationships with her sisters. And of course I'm a sucker for any story that centers music as essential to our growth and humanity! #Listen #SeptemberSenses

How did you choose this book: It was recommended to me by a friend
Annabel Greene is supposed to be the girl with everything. A loving family, caring friends, and a stable life, but fight now, life isn't going according to plan. In order for her to move on, she needs to deal with the one memory holding her down.
Sarah Dessen books are beyond the world. How can a book be so relatable, even when I haven't been in the situation? Her books are the perfect thing for a reading slump
I‘ve read this book once before and enjoyed it. When I read this book a second time, I took more notice of Annabel‘s fear of talking to people... even when she had something important to say. She had so much fear that it affected her relationships with her friends and family and she didn‘t realize it until later.
The story, the characters, the relationships are all very realistic and I can totally relate. It‘s one of my favorite Dessen books, and one of her best. Spoiler in the comments about some of my favorite parts of the book.

My favorite posts to see on Litsy are “I‘m only ______ pages/ through and I‘m hooked/love/engrossed/interested” about books.
I think one of the reasons I love this book, over the past few I read, is because the main character is a bit more relatable than That Summer, Dreamland, and Someone like you. The earlier 3 all had MC‘s that seemed to always be doing drugs and drinking, hating their families. Totally different from my teenage years. I didn‘t drink until 18 (legal age in PR), never did drugs, rarely partied, and am loyal to my family. #Dessennewyear #cantrelate
I‘ve honestly forgotten how much I loved this book. Only on Chapter 3 and I couldn‘t hold back just had to share some thoughts:
1. The dynamic of the sisters is 100% real. In her other books, the sibling dynamic seemed off, as if they lived together a year or two, instead of their whole lives.
2. My dad was also overrun by an estrogen household, so I can sympathize with Annabel‘s father.

“But being nice wasn‘t as easy as it seemed, especially when the rest of the world could be so mean.”—Dessen, pg 12

1. Just finished This Lullaby and starting Just Listen, both by Sarah Dessen
2. Hot Cocoa. I do actually love coffee and tea, but only lukewarm or cold.
3. Was most likely a blended frappe from the local cafe by my house, at least three weeks ago, if not longer. Caffeine makes me way too wired, so I drink it sparingly.

Like most of Dessen's heroines, Annabelle has been through some Serious Sh*t, and although her silence is frustrating at times, I don't blame her for retreating into herself and trying to pretend that she is Fine.
It might seem like stories like these aren't as relevant to my life as a 30-something, but sometimes we all need to be reminded that we are loved as we are, that those we love can be trusted, and that life will go on.
Sorry for blowing up everyone‘s feed today and falling so behind on this month‘s daily posts. I‘ve been dealing with the DMV and Human Resources, as well as going to a couple of appointments and having orientation at my new job. It‘s been crazy! I finally have some time to sit down and read some today, and I‘m planning on finishing up the #Zodiac series this week. Hopefully! ⭐️
My cuddly reading buddy! I love my #Luna kitten cuddles! 😻 #catsoflitsy
I have always loved Sarah Dessen's books but for some reason I hadn't yet read this one. After a new recommendation of it from a friend, I decided to give it a go and I am so glad I did. The book was such a treasure. I loved the characters and the story and topic was dealt with sensitively. I was truly sucked in and became incredibly addicted! I needed things to go okay for all the characters as I was emotionally invested.

Thank you so much @writerlibrarian ! I can‘t wait to get started on the books you selected for me!! And OMG! Those hockey legends stamps!! Love them! ❤️And most of all these fingerless gloves! They will be used often!! I might have already used them 😂❤️ Thank You! #halloweengoespostal
Up next 😊 #bookjarpick
I remember when I bought this book, I was still in middle school. Now, as I read it again, I noticed so many things I didn't notice during that time. I'm so satisfied that I decided to read it once more! The summary on the back, doesn't do the book justice; it's way more than that summary!
My only book with #listen in the title for #readathon unfortunately I don't listen to audio books because I just can't focus on them! I envy those that can! 😂
I haven't read a Sarah Dessen book since I was in high school maybe, but a younger friend of mine said this one was good so I'm diving in for her 😄 not sure I how I feel about it yet 🤔
My 1st Dessen was Along For The Ride - quick, very entertaining & wrapped up in a bow at the end. BUT that bow is so beautiful on a wonderful glittery present. Immediately I went to the store & like the crazy book lady I am, I dug through the piles of books pushing kids outtatheway & found this. I also have been known to troll the D section of the library, blocking sassy tweens in their skinny jeans to get that copy 1st. #startswithJ #AndItsAugust
#augustlibrary17 #booksacrossoceans. First time I've ever done these challenges so let's do this!!! This is my August #tbr and I know the reality is I probably won't even come close to reading this many but I am going to push hard this month. This also doesn't include my audiobooks I'll be listening too. 😻😻 if I read all these I'll be proud of myself. I average 6 a month so... it's possible *fingers crossed*
I've read this one so many times and thankfully, it has held up over the years. ❤️ full review at howlinglibraries.com
Dessen writes fun YA novels with a message. This is one I've read and enjoyed. #AmericanKids #JuneTunz
