A peaceful demonstration against nuclear power turns violent and ends with a police officer dead. Superintendent Burgess, whose interrogation tactics are intimidating & brutal, is sent in to head the investigation. Banks tries to work around him to maintain his positive relationships & solve the murder. Add an ex-hippie community, twists, turns, & a surprise ending & we have another series winner. #serieslove2025 #3

This mornings fare:
Blueberry scone & crème fraiche, coffee & a book. Started this at 2:00 a.m. when I woke & initially could not sleep. #Serieslove2025

Bk5 of May is done. The 3rd DCI Banks book, it‘s another very late 80s/early 90s setting. An anti nuclear demonstration in Eastvale erupts into a brawl between police & demonstrators. After the dust settles a dead officer appears to have been murdered. The first appearance of Dirty Dick Burgess after London CID is called in, making tensions escalate. Burgess immediately sets his sights on a young protester from a local commune. #SeriesLove2024👇

Quick read on the plane. Short break in the sunshine. Going back and reading Inspector Banks from the beginning. I started in the middle!

The demonstrators huddled in the March drizzle outside Eastvale Community Centre.

My third Robinson and it was excellent. I love the way the author spends time on the lives of all the characters, not just our hero and his quest to solve the case. The Yorkshire setting is part of the plot as well, and the fact that the early books are set in the 80s is a fun window in time. Cassette players in cars! Not even standard!
Two books down on my #FabulousFebruary stack! #BookSpinBingo square crossed off!

And here is my #BookSpinBingo card! More books will be filled in as I go along. Planning on a good reading month. January was a bit fragmented in terms of my attention span, so even though I had plenty of time to read I spent way too much of it doom and then relief (and joy) scrolling Twitter. 🤷♀️ ⬇️

It‘s a cold looking picture, but it‘s cold like Siberia outside. Better stay inside and read, like I did before I started working.

Thanks @Andrew65 for getting me to read this series! As usual I have to work hard to get to my books... The fourth book in the series has vanished from the library, but they have ordered a new copy. Now I‘m stuck at number 3.
