The Beauty That Remains
The Beauty That Remains | Ashley Woodfolk

Told from three diverse points of view, this story of life and love after loss is one Becky Albertalli, author of Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda, says "cuts deeply, and then wipes your tears away." We've lost everything...and found ourselves. Music brought Autumn, Shay, and Logan together. Death might pull them apart. Autumn always knew exactly who she was: a talented artist and a loyal friend. Shay was defined by two things: her bond with her twin sister, Sasha, and her love of music. And Logan has always turned to writing love songs when his real love life was a little less than perfect. But when tragedy strikes each of them, somehow music is no longer enough. Now Logan is a guy who can't stop watching vlogs of his dead ex-boyfriend. Shay is a music blogger who's struggling to keep it together. And Autumn has become a girl who sends messages that she knows can never be answered. Each of them wonders: How different would my life be if this hadn't happened? And now that it has . . . what's next? "An emotional, must-read story of the way music connects us, the way tragedy threatens to break us apart, and the way life can change, for better or worse, in an instant." --Bustle.com "This is the sort of book that pieces a broken heart back together, stronger than before." --Jeff Zentner, Morris Award winning author of The Serpent King

This book seriously lives up to its title. The story is told in 3 different POVs, following 3 teenagers who have lost someone really close to them. The story is beautifully written and the 3 characters each bring something to different regarding their grief. I like show the characters were connected by music and mutual friends. I expected to cry a lot while reading but I actually found myself smiling and the ending was perfect.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Karkar I am seriously in love with this cover. 😍😍😍 4y
That-Bookish-Hiker @Karkar me too! I‘ll be honest the cover is what got my attention and then when I read the synopsis I had to get it. 😝 4y

This book dealt with a hard topic: death. Logan, Autumn and Shay are all dealing with the death of a loved one in many different ways. They can't understand why their friend, ex boyfriend and sister were taken from them. But one thing unites all of them together and that's music. My heart broke for all of these characters.

I had a blast writing this article for Book Riot. I'm always fascinated by cover design-- especially seeing how different artists / designers envision what a cover should look like.

Listening to some great authors speaking about their works at #SLJTeenLive today. Significantly adding to my TBR pile. Also, here‘s a look at my messy desk. Who says Librarians don‘t love a little chaos? 😏

In the last days I tried to survive the warmth in our city park and actually managed to read SOMETHING! I started this at the beginning of June and am now finally finished. I just read a lot Fanfiction between that.
Anyway The Beauty that remains is a good book, just not as captivating or emotional as I hoped.

This book is a sweet, raw dive into how grief shapes us, & how music can heal us all at once. The prose was lyrical & honest. The one thing that felt missing to me was plot. The majority of the book is the characters processing the death of a loved one in their own way, through conversations with other characters. I was hoping for more action to propel the characters forward, so it felt a little slow to me. Still, a quiet, meaningful story. ★★★☆☆.

Recently, I've been reading a lot of books where each chapter is from a different perspective of a character. My favourite part is how their stories intertwine and by the end of it, make sense. Ashley Woodfolk explores mind wrecking parts of grief and how each person handles it differently. If you haven't read it yet, read it now!

This book is all about death. My last book was all about death. I really need a light, funny read next or I might just be sad for life. 😭😭😭

RachLovesTV Sometimes it seems like the things we read someone connect to one another, whether we mean them to or not. This quote about grief, and how easy it is to forget, and then be shocked by the remembrance of loss, it rings so true to me. 💔 6y

Oof. Oh my heart, my head, my everything has been put through the wringer with this book. Told from the perspectives of three teens, connected via their relationship to an indie band, have all recently experienced the loss of a loved one and are dealing with surviving that. Poignant and explores a full range of emotions. Out March 6th! #netgalley

Starting this YA ARC before it comes out on March 6th. I have been trying to eat healthy this week but one of my friends brought me a giant box of doughnuts yesterday after hearing about Shoeless passing away. I wasn‘t able to eat much yesterday so I just ate 4 doughnuts the whole day. I will eat good again tomorrow. But for today I just want to stay in bed and read. It just started to rain so that matches my mood. So much for reading outside.

JSW Donuts have magical healing properties and no calories when they heal you. 😘❤️❤️❤️ 6y

Emotionally drained. This book deals with loss and grief in a very honest and emotional way. Each of the 3 main characters has lost someone close to them and this book focuses on what it‘s like to lose a loved one and the process of moving forward. The fact that these are all teenagers makes it that much more engrossing.

It took a long time for the storylines to come together in this book. I did enjoy it, and the themes it explores. My favorite thing about YA books is the boldness of discussing issues without preaching.

Well, go ahead & add this to the list of books you should be most excited for in 2018! This is a beautiful, heartbreaking, & hopeful story exploring the lives of 3 teens struggling after losing someone they love. The characters are distinct & relatable, & their stories are told with such empathy. I can't get over how good it was--definitely one to add to your tbr right now!
