The Lost Memoirs of Jane Austen | Syrie James
7 posts | 18 read | 15 to read
Many rumors abound about a mysterious gentleman said to be the love of Jane's lifefinally, the truth may have been found. . . . What if, hidden in an old attic chest, Jane Austen's memoirs were discovered after hundreds of years? What if those pages revealed the untold story of a life-changing love affair? That's the premise behind this spellbinding novel, which delves into the secrets of Jane Austen's life, giving us untold insights into her mind and heart. Jane Austen has given up her writing when, on a fateful trip to Lyme, she meets the well-read and charming Mr. Ashford, a man who is her equal in intellect and temperament. Inspired by the people and places around her, and encouraged by his faith in her, Jane begins revising Sense and Sensibility, a book she began years earlier, hoping to be published at last. Deft and witty, written in a style that echoes Austen's own, this unforgettable novel offers a delightfully possible scenario for the inspiration behind this beloved author's romantic tales. It's a remarkable book, irresistible to anyone who loves Jane Austenand to anyone who loves a great story.

Jane Austen fans, take heed. This book is excellent. Heartbreaking, romantic, and hopeful. It‘s also incredibly well-researched, so much so it is difficult to see where the real Jane ends and the fiction begins. Definitely worth a try if you love the author and her works.

BookNAround You should check out #Pemberlittens. If this was the book you were talking about the other night, I‘ve read it. I like Syrie James‘ other books too. 🙂 10mo

A soft pick. I didn‘t like the beginning & almost bailed. I didn‘t like that the author made out that events in Austen‘s books came from real life and not imagination. (Perhaps this was intended to pay homage, but it came off otherwise to me). However, I got caught up in the story and enjoyed James‘ writing style. My absolute favorite ‘Austen Inspired‘ book is ‘The Missing Manuscript of Jane Austen‘ is by this same author, so I was disappointed.

rmaclean4 Beautiful cover! 14mo
Bluebird @rmaclean4 isn‘t it! I had to buy the print copies of her books because the covers are so lovely! 😂 14mo
Librarybelle I read this years ago and find myself not remembering much of it. I guess it was a so-so read for me! (edited) 14mo

An imagined world after JA‘s lost memoirs are discovered in an attic. Reader learns about her love life, a romance that entices her and motivates her writing. Def not for everyone (such as purists lol), but this reminds me of a creative writing / fan fic prompt that takes some liberties. Fine enough if you like regency age romance or anything JA related. #bookreview #janeausten #romance #historicalfiction

#Staycationintimeswap @Chrissyreadit @BookishTrish Patricia, you are awesome! I couldn‘t be happier with my Jane Austen themed box. You spoiled me and I can only hope that you enjoy the box I sent to you just as much. By the way, despite my obsession with all things Jane, I don‘t have any of these books or treasures, so well done you!

StayCurious @Chrissyreadit what a fun swap! Thank you! 5y

#JaneAustenSwap Thank you so much for all of these goodies @Sorceryandswords ~ I ❤ the Sense and Sensibility theme & it honestly doesn't matter that the tagged book was second hand!

Thanks @sprainedbrain & @mabell for organising!

BookishMe Lovely goodies!! ;D 6y
Sophoclessweetheart I‘m so pleased you like them! I tried to make it perfect to your preferences but there wasn‘t as much Northanger Abbey stuff than there was S&S so that‘s why I chose that of your two favourites. 🖤🖤 6y
jenniferw88 @Sorceryandswords no worries & i'm not surprised there's less Northanger Abbey stuff! 😂 6y

Day 3 #FallIntoBooks #cursive All of these paperbacks use cursive on the titles and spines. The top three I've read & enjoyed, the other six are in my #TBR stacks--a couple of new #ARCs (How to Change a Life & The Future She Left Behind) and some that have been there a while! 📚📚📚😬📚📚

lynneamch I really enjoyed Beautiful Ruins. Kind of quirky with lots of twists & turns. Voracious is easy to pick up for a quick chapter or two in between reading other things. Super foodie fun. 7y
