Juniper Lemon's Happiness Index
Juniper Lemon's Happiness Index | Julie Israel

Love Letters to the Dead meets The Sky is Everywhere in this upbeat story about an off-beat girl coping with grief over the death of her sister who discovers the miraculous ways your life can change when you think you're helping someone else. Sixty-five days after the death of her beloved older sister, sixteen-year-old Juniper discovers an unsent letter that Camie wrote on the day she died, addressed only to "You." Juniper is determined to honor her sister's memory and deliver the letter, except she has no idea who "you" is. The shock of her sister's secret relationship causes her to lose track of the sixty-fifth card in her Happiness Index--a ritual started by sunny Camie--in which Juniper is supposed to log something positive each day. It's the ritual that's been holding Juniper together since Camie's death, and without that card, there's a hole. Plus, this particular card contains Juniper's biggest secret. Juniper's search ends up taking her on a heart-opening journey that changes not just her life, but the lives of several classmates who are struggling too--the anonymous author of a suicide note, a vandalizing guitar player with a troubled home life, and a boy with a secret even bigger than Juniper's. This is a smart, poignant, funny book guaranteed to make you laugh and cry--and maybe even take notes.

I really related to this book a lot. I lost my sister when I was younger in an accident and I really felt what Juniper was going through. There was a desperate need to hold onto anything that could connect her with her sister that I really found accurate and true. At times sad and funny, this is well written and has a deep meaning.

What I liked:
The first half of the book
The friendships!
Brand. At least until after the New Year's chapter. Then, he just seemed to do a 360 and was almost scary angry.

What I didn't like:
The second half of the book left me wanting more, as well as the family scenes.
I wished we'd had found out who You was and to get a scene when Juniper finds out.

My favourite book that I've snuggled up with all winter. Juniper Lemon's Happiness Index had me hooked from the get go and I loved every moment spent in Juniper's head as she struggled with her grief after the loss of her sister. Loss, love, friendship, family. This book had it all.

I'm amazed that this book is a debut novel. It was so well written and I couldn't put it down. I adored every minute

⭐️4.5/5

Kicking off my long weekend reading with this! I'm trying to get through some of my library books (why do all the holds come in at the same time???)

peaKnit It's like a library conspiracy to get us to read quicker! 7y
KimmyM @peaknit I think you're right!! I'm such a mood reader so I struggle when I have so many library books checked out 😅 7y

Here was my attempt at the 2017 Booktubeathon! I didn't go as well as I hoped, only finishing one book, but it was still fun to try! I read a lot more than I normally would in 1 week, and it was a lot of fun ☺️
Did you have a go in this year's Booktubeathon? How many books did you read? 📚

Wow! Socked in the heart with a truck load of feelings! I had to wipe a little tear away as I was finishing this in my OFFICE AT LUNCH! A really inventive, creative masterful story about how, even the space left behind, the sheer absence of something, is important. If you like John Green, or if you have ever attempted the 100 Happy Days challenge, or if you just want a lovely read that will make you sad but glad to be alive, this one is for you.

Just starting this book while at my sister's for the night. The kids are using the slip'n'slide which means I can relax on the deck with a book. This is a super cute YA debut novel. Perfect for a summer evening

I don't often read YA, but I'm so glad Julie let me adopt one of her travel-worn UK galleys. This book is smart, funny, and poignant, and manages to take on everything from first love to first loss without trivializing the trials of being a teenager. Though some characters are familiar, they're never cliché, and the story's little mysteries kept me entranced until the very last page. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
