His to Defend | Rhenna Morgan

This was a great contemporary alpha male romance. I‘ve never read a book about a modern day mobster so I wasn‘t quite sure what to expect, but I ended up loving the dynamics.

This book was like Jane Eyre meets a Charles Dickens novel and I loved it. It‘s like Jane Eyre in the sense that the main character is living in a mysterious house with people above her station. Similar to a Dickens novel, this book deals with and shed light on some unsavory things about the Victorian era like debtors‘ prison.

This book was absolutely amazing!

The story is very simple but very profound. There are lots of little pieces of wisdom sprinkled throughout that really hit me hard. For example, this was one of my favorite passages:

“Sometimes I feel lost,” said the boy.
“Me too,” said the mole, “but we love you and love brings you home.”

This was a very heartfelt and touching book.

The depression representation was really well done. It showed what depression looked like and how it affects not only the person with it, but also their loved ones.

This was such a fun book! The premise is so cool and makes for an exciting read. The characters get launched into a wide range of video games and it was interesting to see how they adapted to each one.

Justifying today's #bookhaul by pointing out that these are all generally short books and are therefore equivalent to having only purchased one, maybe two, long books. Fair, right? 📚📚😆😆 I think I will start with The Secret Life of Bees!
