This wasn‘t the mystery/adventure story I expected. Instead it was the coming-of-age tragedy of small town bigotry, family secrets, and a star-crossed love. Intensely sad.

This one was an intense read, but I found the descriptions to be very rich and beautiful. In the end I really enjoyed it, despite its heavy content.
#7books7days Day 6
Books that made an impact on 9, change how I think or will just never leave me (no explanation).
@laurenslibrary thank you for my green themed #colormeread package! It is perfect. #colormereadswap Thank you @Mommamanzi for hosting this fun event!
I finished my penultimate book to complete my #LitsyAtoZ challenge this year. Just Y to go.
This book was slow for me. Hard to pick back up when I‘d put it down. There were a handful of events in the book that made the story compelling but the narrative dragged in between them. The side story about the MC‘s best friend turned out to be the best part of the book. I think this book could have been edited down by 100 pages. ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
Does this ever happen to anyone?
I put the book down to go to sleep and started dreaming as if I were still reading and events were still going on in the book. Finally managed to wake myself up just now to convince myself that what I dreamt was not in the book.
This book is slow for me which is a huge bummer. It‘s my second to last book for me to finish my #LitsyAtoZ for the year and running out of time!
I purchased my J and Y books for #litsyatoz. They were at home when I got here from my three-day trip to south Texas to meet with clients. Yay! Book mail!
This was our book club read for the month of September! It‘s an Australian YA book and I definitely encourage everyone to check it out! It totally sucked me in. It‘s on audiobook and ebook on Libby for those of you whose libraries use Libby! And the movie is on Hoopla too(but I suggest reading it first) 📚
I struggled a little with this one. I'm not sure specifically what I didn't like about it but it didn't really hold my interest. I liked the characters of Jeffrey, Jasper and Eliza but Charlie annoyed me. Sometimes he seemed like a complete child and sometimes his musings were beyond what a usual 13 year old would think.
@Rissreads OH BOY OH BOY OH BOY!!! Feels like Christmas! Thank you so much for my wonderful package in the great bag!! I am so looking forward to reading these, particularly your favorite! I love the bookmark too - those cute Australian animals!. I will be answering your letter shortly- it is so wonderful for me to meet Littens from all over the world. It still seems incredible to me to have a buddy from Australia! ❤️❤️
Went to see Craig Silvey‘s Keynote at the #DisruptedFestivalofIdeas2018 this morning. He was riveting and inspiring and funny and wonderful. #fangirl 📚❤️
#QuotsyApril18 Day 6: One of the best quotes about being #Sorry found in this gem of an Australian novel that moved me so deeply when I read it with my book club members around two years back. I also belatedly discovered that this has been made into a film. I love Aussie books, that much is true.
All the feels of an Australian country town, the honourable, the racist, the evil and thunderous rain on tin roofs. I thoroughly enjoyed this one although Silvey sometimes took his time getting to the crux of the matter. Very believable. #aussiesrule2018
1). On the left, Hex (because she‘s hexadactyl) and Bru (named for the drink Irn Bru, because he‘s a badass)
2). Born last May! Sibs!
3). Hex loves to whine; Bru likes to chew on things and beat up other cats
4). Tagging @Tamra @tricours @Booksnchill

Picked this up out of the TBR yesterday and then “accidentally” started reading it. Just can‘t stay away from the Australian lit lately! 🇦🇺
I've finally watched the movie adaptation & am happy to say that it measured up to the book. It was a beautiful (looking) movie but more importantly, it stayed true to the book. 👍
#AndItsAugust #day11 #StartsWithJ I didn't realise how few books actually start with J. Looking through my shelves, there's a lot of S, T, R, a few A & B but not a lot of J. I did find these two though, and one is even a double barrelled J! Jingo is part of Terry Pratchetts Discworld series & Jasper Jones is an Australian novel about two young boys & a dead girl set in Western Australia.

Ah, this just didn't work for me and I just got done writing why over on GoodReads. I think I need to see it as a film maybe that will swing it ?
I might be in some kind of weird mid-winter reading funk.

1. What is my current location: Sydney, Australia
2. What brought me to Litsy: I started using this app ages ago but I didn't really know anyone but now a bunch of people are here to have fun with
3. What's a good movie based off of a book: I kind of really adored Jasper Jones! OOH OOH also, the Swedish movies of The Girl With Dragon Tattoo trilogy are 👌
4. Have I ever had a pet turtle: Nooo 🙁🐢
This is in my top five Australian novels and has recently been released as a film. I went to see it recently and was pleased to see such a true adaptation of one of my favourite stories. It was superbly cast and nostalgically Australian with all the mystery, tension and humour of the novel. If you've not read much (any) Australian fiction I would highly recommend this one.
A great piece of YA literature...up until the end that is. While I enjoyed reading most of this book, the ending was a bit of a letdown. Until the last 20 pages, Silvey had done such a masterful job of weaving this tale about Charlie, a young teen in Australia during the 1960s, and how one event catapults him out of his childhood. Without giving away anything, the final pages fell flat compared to the rest of the novel. ⬇️
Coming to the conclusion of this one in about 20 pages...don't want it to end!
Went and saw the movie version of this book last night with the girls from book club. Thought it was a pretty good adaptation really

Although I thought we were done with winter (hah! Silly New Englander!), I am enjoying this March snow day that #Stella has brought. Slow cooker chili is prepped and simmering, and now I'm settling in for some reading time. The wind is whipping (crazy winds with this one!)...but I am thankful to be warm and dry and reading! Stay cozy today, Northeast Littens! #snowday #snowdayreading ☃️📖
Charlie and Jeffrey: Just a couple of thirteen-year-olds, debating some of life's greatest mysteries. 😂
"Every time I encounter one for the first time, I look it up and bank it. Every new word is like getting a punch back. No matter how obscure or archaic, I eat them up and let them settle. And I vow now to forget them." ?
Today, in scenes from reading on vacation - wine, a book that I let a bookseller here in NZ handsell to me, and a beautiful view.
Enjoyed this book, was too much fun to be a modern or Australian "Mockingbird".
This is a riot of a story! Laugh out loud fun coming of age story. Go now and read it if you haven't already. Just read it......
Got a rug, my uggies, a fresh book (reading for students) and company. All set!
My friend heather loved this audiobook, so I had to check it out. Love the Australian reader!
