The Disaster Artist
The Disaster Artist: My Life Inside The Room, the Greatest Bad Movie Ever Made | Greg Sestero, Tom Bissell
Presents a humorous ode to cinematic hubris, discussing the story of the mysteriously wealthy misfit, Tommy Wiseau, the producer, director, and star of the "The Room," which later became an international cult film despite making no money at the box office.

I was interested in this since I saw The Room, but the backstory is even crazier than I imagined. If you‘ve seen The Disaster Artist movie, then you probably know what to expect. There is so much more information in the book though. Tommy is revealed to be even more bizarre and unhinged than you could have expected. It‘s a fascinating story. The audiobook is great too.

So I went to my local independent theater to see The Room last night, armed with 100 plastic spoons which were quickly confiscated on arrival 😭😭 they replaced them with 5 wooden spoons. Judging my the state of the place at the end, some plastic ones did make it through staff but still YOU'RE TEARING US APART!!! 🥄

AshleyHoss820 Oh, hai Mark! 😂😂😂 I love this post! 4y

On a roll this week with books. Finished this audio book and it was 💯 times better than I thought it would be. If you're familiar with the crazily terrible movie if all time, The Room, then this is a must listen. I highly recommend the audio book over reading it because Greg Sestero does a brilliant job mimicking Tommy's weird accent. Such a funny and terrifying book. #mustlisten #audiobook #bookbetterthanthemovie

The Room. It‘s amazing how bad this movie is. Incongruous...plot holes galore...and yet...amazing. Sestero takes the reader through the wild ride that is his friendship with The Room‘s mastermind: Tommy Wiseau. As crazy-bizarre as he appears to be, I have to give Wiseau major credit for bringing his dream to reality (🤔 how did he find this thing?!). Of course, I need to rewatch both movies. 🤷🏻‍♀️💣🎥

emilyhaldi This movie really blows my mind 🤯🤯🤯 5y

Need to break up my doorstop bio reading with something a bit more lighthearted (and yet overly dramatic). Having seen The Room, as well as The Disaster Artist (inspired by this memoir), I must say that I‘m really looking forward to this. 🎥💣💥

If you can, I really recommend listening to this on audiobook. Greg does Tommy‘s voice perfectly.

This was kind of a heartbreaking portrait to me. Sad, funny, weird but definitely entertaining. Would love to know how Tommy feels about his success now.

Time to go rewatch The Room now that I have all the behind the scenes info 😅

What can you say about this book? First, you have got to see The Room. Then read this book. It explains a lot. Not everything, but a lot. It's also jist a good memoir about LA and the acting biz and trying to break into it. #booksaboutbadmovies #memoirs #CatsofLitsy

I am a huge lover of bad movies and grew up watching MST3K every weekend

The first time I saw The Room was 7+ years ago in Hollywood during one of the midnight showings and Tommy Wiseau came by to throw a football around and shake hands. So of course I read Disaster Artist as soon as it came out and laughed out loud the entire time. If you haven‘t seen The Room, it‘ll make you want to and if you have, it just gives more wacky depth to it.

wanderinglynn Love MST3K! 6y

Thanks to my brother I love watching bad movies and The Room is considered the citizen Kane of bad movies. The Disaster Artist gives insight into how it came to be produced and also who Tommy Wiseau is. After reading this I kinda have mixed emotions towards Tommy - on the one hand he's a bit of a bully but then on the other there is a naivety and innocence that you can't help be sympathetic towards. A must read for The Room fans!

The Hubs and I watched The Room recently, it was insanely bad in a most entertaining way. "Why?!" was the most asked question. Well, Sestero offers a behind the scenes look at the making of the most terrible movie ever made and I am already hooked! We're reading this for @FountainBookstore book club and can't wait to talk about it tomorrow night!

Tommy said he would recite to me the security code he'd written down earlier. While he recited the numbers, I was supposed to type them in. The security code was this: 1-2-3-4. I asked Tommy why he bothered writing that down. Tommy responded that he wrote it down because he could never remember it.

Well I really wanted to see “The Disaster Artist” in theaters BEFORE James Franco got accused of something shady but it‘s too late now. At least I still have the book detailing the making of cinema‘s greatest turd “The Room.” I am obsessed with this book, especially the audio version that features author Greg Sestero‘s A+ impression of “The Room‘s” writer/director/producer/star Tommy Wisseau. “You are TEARING me apart Lisa!”

A hilarious read if you‘re into the movie The Room and want to learn about the enigma that is Tommy Wiseau, but don‘t expect literary greatness.

Read January 10-16
Book 3/50

I picked this up on audio from the library, Greg is the narrator and he did a great job. I loved learning all the behind the scenes of the movie The Room. I do not like Tommy. I know people like him, and it took a long time to get them out of my life!
Greg must be a saint!

The story behind the making of The Room is entertaining as hell. Towards the end I got annoyed with Greg and there is one part where he came off as REALLY BITTER and blaming Tommy for his lack of acting career. Again, you took the job dude, you were the only one who read the whole script beforehand so it‘s not like you didn‘t know how bad it was going to be. But other than that, really fun book. A must read for anyone who has seen The Room.

...this might be Tommy‘s most candid moment in the entire film—and the clearest evidence of the lovable and endearing side of his personality. Hi, doggie. It was warped, accidental genius.

Oh, hi Mark! So I'm not a crazy fan of The Room but I have seen it a few times and think it is hilarious and fantastic, when I saw this book it piqued my interest enough to come home with me but it wasn't until I saw ads for the new film that I finally picked it up (I keep ARCs for an unconscionable amount of time). This was a fun read. Funny and surprisingly sad. Sestero went out of his way to champion those involved in the film, which I admired.

Sharpeipup My husband is a fan of The Room so we saw The Diaster Artist then he‘s getting the book for Christmas. Glad to hear it‘s good... 6y

So I got him his own copy, plus tickets for us to see the sold out midnight showing of The Room at our local theatre at the end of the month! This looks to be a good start to a relationship! 🖤
