Devonshire Scream: A Tea Shop Mystery | Laura Childs
9 posts | 8 read | 7 to read
The New York Times bestselling author of Ming Tea Murder serves up heists, homicides, and herbal blends in the latest in the Tea Shop mysteries. Catering a high-class trunk show at Heart's Desire Jewelry is a shining achievement for Theodosia and the Indigo Tea Shop. After all, a slew of jewelers, museums, and private collectors will be there to showcase their wares and sip some of Theo's best blends. But just as Theo settles in to enjoy the fruits of her labor, the party is crashed by a gang of masked muggers who steal the precious gems and jewels on display. The thieves disappear almost as quickly as they arrived, leaving shattered glass, scattered gemstones, and a dead body in their wake. Although the last thing Theo wants is to get involved, she can't help but intercede when her dear friend Brooke, aunt of the victim and owner of Heart's Desire, begs for help in figuring out who committed the brutal burglary. Though the FBI believes this daring "smash and grab" is the work of an international gang of jewel thieves, Theo is convinced that the felon is someone much closer to home... INCLUDES RECIPES AND TEA TIME TIPS!From the Hardcover edition.

Bucks Mills in Devon today. #VirtualTour

How has Friday been? Things starting to settle hopefully 🤞The tweaks to lunch arrangements has improved things. All classes go to hall to collect lunch but no classes can be in the hall at the same time to collect it, and then take it to eat in classrooms so no cross contamination risks across the bubbles. Getting pace of children in so not to fast so no classes meeting, and not so slow so lunches get

Andrew65 ☝️Get cold and all takes so long, impact on time outside or learning time. All I feel I‘ve done this week is work or sleep, and very little of the latter, and that is despite having worked on it for two months. Hopefully next week I can give sone time to my school improvement plan. On,y rewarding this week is the audiobook listened to on way to and from work. (edited) 4y
CocoReads Oh I feel for you having to get all the times and classes coordinated. Today started out horrible, ended decently and even was able to leave work 30 min early since I had to run something to the infusion clinic, which is conveniently located halfway between the hospital and the staff parking lot. 4y

Andrew65 @CocoReads We always knew when produced a timetable for doing something we‘ve never done before that might need to tweak for timings and make other alterations. A lot of stressed emotions in school yesterday, people felt a tad more relaxed today. Like creating a new school setting up new systems fir everything with major constraints. 4y
Andrew65 @CocoReads Pleased to hear you had a better ending to the day. 😊 4y
AprilMae Long weekend, using this time to prepare for fall. Maybe read a book, catch up with my Litsy friends!!! Hope you all are doing well!! 4y
Andrew65 @AprilMae Enjoy 😊 4y
IamIamIam Took my couch potato daughter for a long walk in an historic state park earlier today! We have drum lessons shortly, my husband is going out with friends tonight (HALLELUJAH!!!) so the kids are going to bed early and I'm going to READ without anyone asking me what I want to watch!!! 😂😂 Let's hope I make it past 10:30! Lol 4y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I'm happy to hear the tweaks you made are resulting in a bit more positive progress. Hopefully the next few weeks make it a smoother process all around. Will you get to relax a little this weekend? Today was just work, nothing good or bad. Pretty much packed it up for the day and now into a 3-day weekend. No plans for it, but a welcome break all the same. 4y
Lynnsoprano Glad to hear things are improving. Why is that lunch scheduling is always a headache? Market day for us, then trying to fix a recording by an inexperienced singer who is having major problems with the software we‘re using. Talk about headache! 🤦‍♀️ 4y
TheBookHippie We‘re hitting a rhythm mostly- still working out kinks - with the one school off my rotation it‘s better. A lot of people also bailed this week from that school so we will see 🤷🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️ still trying to find option for son 4y
Andrew65 @TheBookHippie We‘re at the stage of thinking how we get reading and reading teaching moving forwards, a lot of this requires close contact. 4y
Andrew65 @Lynnsoprano Yes lunch scheduling always difficult, even worse where have to ring fence a class. 4y
Andrew65 @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Tomorrow I am taking the full day away from it, hope to take a drive (possibly to the coast) and reading. 4y
Andrew65 @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Enjoy the long weekend 😊 4y
Andrew65 @IamIamIam Enjoy your reading time. 😊 4y
TheSpineView Glad things were a little easier for you today. I was off today and it was hot. In Celsius it was 33.89 and humid. I ended up spending most of the day at the lake. It was the only cool place unless you want to spend the entire day in the air conditioning. I get claustrophobia inside all the time so very glad I have an outdoor place to retreat to. 4y
TheBookHippie @Andrew65 we‘re outside reading for now -but when weather cools there are a few plans so will see - lunch will be an issue here once we are not outside 4y
DieAReader @Andrew65 I hope you have a nice relaxing day tomorrow. A drive along the coast & reading sounds wonderful🥰 4y
Crazeedi @Andrew65 enjoy your day, you deserve a break! Sorry I'm late its 49 °F here this am, funny how I smell fall the last of August, and things change as soon as we turn calendar! Overwhelmed with tomatoes, making sauce, salsa and paste 4y
Andrew65 @Crazeedi We‘ve driven out to the Peak District. @Squidget (edited) 4y
Andrew65 @TheBookHippie That and collection / drop off biggest issues. Now trying to think how we get learning moving forward. 4y
TheBookHippie @Andrew65 we got the drop off pick up figured out it‘s just loooooong process. 4y
Andrew65 @TheBookHippie So have we and I agree, but relies on parents keeping to the time. 4y

How has Friday been?

CocoReads It is Friday, isn‘t it? So relaxing today. I‘ve been enjoying some lovely reading time. 4y
Andrew65 @CocoReads It is and that sounds great! 4y

TrishB Just knowing it‘s Friday helped ❤️😁 4y
Andrew65 @TrishB It usually does! We had a productive senior leadership team meeting this afternoon as we continued with our preparations for September. Plenty to do over the next week but achieved a lot this week. 4y
TrishB That‘s good news 👍🏻 it must feel very nerve wracking! 4y
Andrew65 @TrishB And some! Still finalising risk assessments for some vulnerable staff. Still trying to work out who will be back and who can‘t be, especially around pregnancies. Don‘t know what‘s happens when we get in to season that causes symptoms with other illnesses, sickness bugs, flu, colds etc! Very surprised unions not being more vocal. 4y
Lynnsoprano Watching the developing tropical storms, looking okay for us. Reading your comments reminded me of Wednesday‘s walk. We passed the elementary school, where parents were pulling up in cars, I think to pick up textbooks/materials. I could see signs for each grade, and bags prepared. Schools in our county are going back virtually only 31 August. My former music teacher colleagues are having to be very creative. 4y
Lynnsoprano @Andrew65 Union in Florida is suing, as state Dept. of Education is threatening to cut funding to counties who don‘t start in person. Our county is still in phase 1 reopening because of high infection rate, but the state still hasn‘t formally approved their virtual plan. 4y
Andrew65 @Lynnsoprano In England expectation ALL children back in schools from first week of September and must do full hours. 30+ page risk assessment I have put in place with all controls putting in, further training with staff on that 1st September. Unions threaten to Sue individual schools if they get it wrong. Not helpful, it‘s the Government that says we have to be back. No extra funding yet extra cleaning, PPE equipment, modifications to building 👇 (edited) 4y
Andrew65 @Lynnsoprano So not sure how we pay for it all. Be interesting to see how many children return and how many refuse to send back. Scotland where I am at the moment have already returned, last week. (edited) 4y
Lynnsoprano @Andrew65 That‘s a huge concern here, too. Government here is no help, has no plan or guidance, just threatens to cut off money when schools need more. I love being retired, but I‘ve always missed the students and making music on a daily basis. Now, I‘m really glad I don‘t have to deal with this. 4y
TheSpineView I don't understand how the government can expect people to do more with less! Especially when budgets are stretched thin already. I feel for you guys on the front line. My day have been spent getting ready for grandkids. They should be here in about a hour or so. I need to start getting dinner ready ready as I will have 7 to feed instead of two. 4y
TrishB Understand totally. Govt expecting all unis to take extra students because they messed up a level results. Local public health say we have a limit on campus. It‘s a mess ☹️ 4y
kezzlou85 Been a quiet day here but a nice one. Trying to sort out the dogs meds. 4y
Andrew65 @TrishB They couldn‘t have made a bigger mess of it could they! There were issues with what they originally did, but with changes some will be over assessed and could struggle at Uni! No one will ever know what grades they should have got. (edited) 4y
Andrew65 @Lynnsoprano Governments not having a clue or a plan is the root problem. They are also flip flopping in decisions. (edited) 4y
Andrew65 @kezzlou85 Hope you‘re feeling better. 4y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Since we leave for our weekend trip in the morning I did some last minute laundry & errands today. I popped into my local indie bookstore, got 25% three new books and found three more at the Dollar Tree for $1 each! Tonight I'll use my packing list to pull everything together but I know where it all is. Now I need to rest. Being on go so much more this week is making my ankles sore. I guess they're not used to all the activity anymore. 4y
Andrew65 @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Have a great trip, you deserve it. 👍😊 4y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Thanks Andrew! It's going to feel great driving over the state line and exploring a new town. 4y
JanuarieTimewalker13 Beautiful photos!!! 4y
tracey38 Today was a bad day at work but at least it's Friday. Did a little shopping after work. Got some happy mail as my OwlCrate box was here when I got home. Going to spend tomorrow hanging out at my mom's as she has just been feeling anxious lately. Even though they rescheduled her surgery from Monday, I still took the day off work. Needed the mental health break. 😊 4y
Andrew65 @tracey38 Try to have a great weekend. 😊 4y
kezzlou85 @Andrew65 yeah much better thank you. Just gotta watch what I eat from now on. 4y

I really enjoy this series. They are quick to read cozy mysteries. I love the setting and the characters are comfortably familiar.

An okay cozy mystery, but a bit far fetched. I might have enjoyed it more had I not just read another cozy that I liked better.

#nextup I'm feeling lazy and not in the mood for anything heavy. I picked this up at the library on Saturday, so I'm going from one cozy mystery to another.

PurpleyPumpkin Sounds like a great plan. I love cozies!👍🏽 7y

A cozy tea shop + a mystery to solve = a light, enjoyable read. Recipes at the end of the book, plus references to various tea resources are added bonus. This is no Agatha Christie, but I did enjoy it.

Seems like a lot of people on Litsy like "cozy mystery" books. So I am going to give it a try. Picked this one up at the library. It's a series, so if it's good I can get some more. ?
