Walked two miles to the library in the cold to pick up my holds so now its time for my electric blanket, some hot tea, and my choice for the book published posthumously category of the #bookriotreadharderchallenge.

#30daysofreadathon Day 1: Stack
Here are the books I hope to get through during the #readathon! I have a few e-books on standby should I finish them or need a change of pace. My strategy was to pick medium length thrillers to keep me hooked for all 24 hours and too spooked to even dream of napping!
#deweys24hourreadathon begins for my time zone at 7am tomorrow morning- there is still time to join in if you haven't yet, whether for 1 hr or all 24!

Natasha.C.Barnes Starts at 4am for me! I better make so coffee now so I don't wake anybody up! 😆 6y
goktrose Haha! I'm setting the brew timer for 15 minutes before I wake up so the smell of coffee lures me out of bed! 6y

#30daysofreadathon Update! Day 2: New
Retrieved my package this morning after refusing to leave the building lobby until I found someone to grab it for the me, actual responsibilities be damned.
After 17 years I'm so ridiculously excited that even without a scheduled #readathon tomorrow no one would be getting me to put this baby down until I finish it!

#30daysofreadathon Day 2: New
It's been 17 years since the His Dark Materials trilogy ended; today, the story continues. Y'all I've been having an emotional response all day to this release because this series has played a huge role in my shaping since I was 8 and when I got home no one was at the desk to get my package so no #readathon for me tonight. 😭 I will spend the rest of the night living vicariously through people posting their copies!

#30daysofreadathon Day 3: Break
Any breaks I take during the #readathon will probably involve cuddling my needy boy. Bear likes to swat at books in my hands until I pay him attention- he's even doing it as I'm typing right now! XD

#30daysofreadathon Day 4: Plans
Tonight I created my bullet journal page for tracking my reading progress! The library holds have been picked up and I received a shipping notification for the final book in my planned stack today. All that is left is to go shopping for my snacks and then the #readathon will be upon us!

#30daysofreadathon Day 5: Place
Gotta use today to shoutout to my alma mater- UW Madison, home of the coolest mascot ever!
This book was written in 1970 by a professor to chronicle the traditions and changes on campus during his tenure. For me it was fantastic to learn the history of so many traditions that remain a celebrated part of life on campus today.

Einstein's Dreams | Alan Lightman
post image

#30daysofreadathon Day 6: Time
Einstein's Dreams is a fantastic work of fiction detailing dreams Einstein has while developing his theory of relativity. In these dreams he reimagines the concept of time, seeing worlds where time passes differently for those at different altitudes, or where time is tangible and experienced like colors or flavors, and so many other unique envisionings of time. A perfect #readathon choice!

#30daysofreadathon Day 7: Sad
This book is about a boy's journey to discover the purpose of a key he finds in his father's belongings a year after he dies in 9/11. Though it is not a conventional tearjerker it will absolutely give you some feels.
One week until the #readathon!

#30daysofreadathon Day 9: Spines
I love antique books and the craftmanship in their spines and covers. This is a picture of the lovely spine on my copy of The House of the Seven Gables. I do not know how old this book is, but on the inside is a note dated 1901! The spine was so worn it was difficult to capture a photo that could do the beauty justice!

#30daysofreadathon Day 11: Exciting
Exciting for me is glancing at the top of a spine to see how much longer you have to enjoy a world. Seeing you are near the finish line you feel your heart rate increase and your mind race ahead, trying to predict how the story will end yet dreading the moment it does. The world fades away and you get truly lost in the turning pages.
That is why I'm a lifelong #bookworm and why I am ready for the #readathon

For #ReadHarder2017, for a book set over 5000 miles from my location. My friend had been pushing me to read Haruki Murakami for a while and the dual novella format caught my interest; however, I was not pulled in. The disjointed way Murakami writes wasn't my cup of tea, though I am glad I finally read him!

Another sick day means a light-hearted read to fulfill the "LGBT+ romance" category of #ReadHarder2017. I loved this book, some have called it unrealistic, but I see it as a portrayal of a world we should aim for. Overall a fun read that left me smiling (and I don't even like romance novels!). The authors note at the end of this edition was also a lovely little extra.

Another in the sick day marathon and this was really odd to say the least. Read for #ReadHarder2017 to meet the prompt to read a collection of short stories by a woman. Disturbing and provocative, the stories didn't have the depth found in the most successful of short stories and I found myself reading just to finish it.

Sick day means I got to power through this read for #ReadHarder2017. It was for the prompt to read a book where the main character goes on a spiritual journey. I am an atheist, but this book, while religious in context, abounds with inspirational passages and positivity that hold true across all worldviews. This will benefit anyone who reads it regardless of personal beliefs and will really push you to strive for your dreams. Highly recommend!

For my book about war. I didn't love this book, but that's only because nonfiction bores me to sleep as a rule. However, Mary Roach's voice was so endearingly humorous while maintaining a clear, information-focused perspective that if you do enjoy nonfiction I'd definitely recommend her work. Overall, she kept me interested enough to read this in a few days. #ReadHarder2017
