Notes from a Small Island | Bill Bryson

Not a bad way to finish the year at all!

This was my travel memoir for #ReadHarder2017 and I probably wouldn‘t have read it otherwise. I‘m not a huge fan of memoirs or nonfiction in general. That said, I was very entertained by this book. Bryson is very funny and I enjoyed traveling around Great Britain through him.

Murder on the Orient Express | Agatha Christie

Ended this year with Agatha and 5 books above my goal! I enjoyed participating in my first reading challenges this year #litsyatoz #litsyreadingchallenge #readharder2017. So many great books were read, and even more were added to my TBR pile. I happily blame this community for that. 😉 Here‘s to 2018! Happy New Year, Littens!!! 🎉

State of Siege | Mahmoud Darwish

I read this slim work of #poetry as one of the last categories for the #ReadHarder2017 challenge. The task is to read a translated poetry book that is NOT about love. So I went ahead and chose a work about war. Mahmoud Darwish was a celebrated Lebanese poet and this is one of his few works translated into English. Some lines of poem really resonated with me while others fell almost comically flat, which I‘m blaming on the translation. 3/5 stars.

Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Nebklvr Isn‘t that the truth, my reading led me to more escapism reading/rereading like Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter and my non-fiction tending to lean toward current US issues, race, immigration, health care, US history, and Russia. I can‘t imagine why....🙄 6y
