Odes to Common Things | Pablo Neruda

"In its caves the salt moans, mountain of buried light, translucent cathedral, crystal of the sea, oblivion of the waves." - from Ode to Salt by Pablo Neruda

He certainly was very passionate about salt. ?

#MarchMagic #BookofPoetry Another book from my moms stash . Generally, she is not a fan of poetry, maybe she will remember where/why she got it.

TheBookHippie Favorite of mine! 13mo
Eggs Great capture of book, shaker, and vintage cloths🥰🥰🥰 I have a lot of the embroidered cloth also, as I used to embroider as a young ‘un. Well done 👍🏼 13mo
Leftcoastzen @Eggs Thanks!🤗 13mo
LeahBergen I love that little shaker. I have a set just like them but with little Dutch kids. 13mo

Mehso-so

Neruda is amazing and I like the idea of noticing the beauty and worth in common things but it was a little slow and dull honestly. Not my favorite of his for sure.

#currentread To finish out the @bookriot #readharder challenge.

kaitlyn This is super random, but would you be able to share with me the names of the poems in this collection? I went to borrow it from my library and they didn‘t have odes to common things (but did have the complete odes) and I‘m trying to figure out which ones are included. Thanks so much if you‘re able to help! 6y
Julsmarshall Hi @kaitlyn I‘ve returned the book to the library but next time I‘m there I‘ll take a picture of the contents page. 6y
kaitlyn @Julsmarshall if that‘s not too much trouble, that would be really nice. But no worries if you can‘t! 6y
Julsmarshall No worries, @kaitlyn I will! 6y

Pickpick

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

My poetry selection for #readharder2017

This great collection was enhanced with lovely pencil sketches. I was somewhat amazed to find out how relaxing reading this was, a vacation from books, heavy with "issues". The simplicity of a poem about a pair of socks or a Gillyflower is like a balm. A reminder that beauty can be found everywhere and in the simplest of things, if you truly take the time to notice.

Ode to Salt: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=5038243

Neruda is one of those poets I've heard of but never read. I picked up Elemental Odes in a library haul and honestly? - not what I was expecting! Might need to come back to these. #litsypoetry365
