Lower Ed was the last non fiction to join my bedside pile of books read in 2017! I shouldn‘t have waited so long to read it!

I buy a bunch of books then inevitably my library holds come in and I find myself unable to prioritize all of them. I need more reading time in my day....

Book folk why when I look for bookshelves why are all the pictures of like four books and a bunch of knick knacks?! I want a real bookcase that will hold the loads and loads of books I have and I want it to look really nice in my living room anyone have ideas?!

KCorter I am always shocked by that as well. Bookcases are for books! Little knick knacks eventually find their way to the bookcases anyway, but so does everything in the house. One way @acorter and I have had luck finding sturdy bookcases is on Craigslist. You can find antiques for affordable prices. At least, we have had good luck in our area. You could also try thrift stores as they have to have bookcases in stock anyway. 3y
KatieMM I haven't checked CL or antique/thrift shops, I should do that! 3y

This was one of the best romances I've read in a while! Alyssa Cole did Civil War love so well. The history and weight of it all was there but so was a lot of steam and smart funny characters.

My husband said the Barnes and Noble sales guy enjoyed the eclectic mix of TBR books on my list as they trekked from teen fiction for Goldenhand to literary to mystery/crime :) I am looking forward to reading this one next!

My husband picked two books from my TBR list for Christmas. One he had heard me talk about (Wangs vs World) and one that he was interested in because I've mentioned wishing we had more books in common to talk about. I'm going to keep him! Merry Christmas to those who celebrate :)

This book has been on my list for the history of institutionalized racial discrimination for a while and it hasn't disappointed. In the age of Trump it feels very relevant for that and for the powers the government took during WWII. I can't say I am enjoying it as such but it is worth the read.

I am listening to this book and every time I turn it on it rips my guts out (another reason I am reading amazing, happy ending romance). It is so beautiful, her depictions of motherhood to little boys is spot on and perfect but in the context of her story also crushingly sad. I cry every time I listen yet I keep going because it is so powerful.

I listened to the BBC dramatization of this book so it wasn't a full on audio reading. It was fantastic! This is the second BBC production I have listened to (Neverwhere being the other) and I have loved both. My library has a lot so I am going to look for more. A great way to experience this book

The sadness in Dill & Travis' worlds & the depiction of people in difficult circumstances making choices gave me lots of feels. Lydia trying to reconcile her world with what she can even understand of theirs was a good reminder on judgement. And they were fun, interesting teens to hang w/in a book.

I listened to this on audio and my mind wandered a lot. It just seemed a bit drawn out. Perhaps reading would have been a better medium. I listened to Schiff's Cleopatra with no issue but this was just less engaging for me. There was a widow on trial named Dorcas Hoar, that always grabbed me back.

DitrieMarieBowie Also possible a different voice actor would have been more engaging, maybe? Tone and inflection affect us more than we realize. 4y
KatieMM Hm I liked the narrator mostly though. I think I probably should have read it so many names and historical stuff that might have sunk in better written vs verbal for my brain 4y
LitHousewife It was so hard to focus on this one. I thought the narrator did the best she could with the way the book was structured. 4y
AlexandraGriffin I'm listening to the audio for this book as well, and I liked Cleopatra as an audiobook. This one just seems SO long! 4y
