Radio Silence | Alyssa Cole
"Cole's first Off the Grid novel offers a startling, believable post-apocalyptic world that is rich in atmospheric details and rife with unexpected dangers. Her refreshingly diverse cast of characters possess strong, sympathetic and magnetic personalities, ensuring that readers will be engaged with each step of their journey." RT Book Reviews No one expects the apocalypse. Arden Highmore was living your average postgrad life in Rochester, New York, when someone flipped the "off" switch on the world. No cell phones, no power, no running waterand no one knows why. All she and her roommate, John, know for sure is that they have to get out, stat. His family's cabin near the Canadian border seemed like the safest choice. It turns out isolation doesn't necessarily equal safety. When scavengers attack, it's John's ridiculously handsome brother, Gabriel, who comes to the rescue. He saves Arden's life, so he can't be all badbut he's also a controlling jerk who treats her like an idiot. Now their parents are missing and it seems John, Gabriel, their kid sister, Maggie, and Arden are the only people left alive who aren't blood-thirsty maniacs. No one knows whenor ifthe lights will come back on and, in the midst of all that, Arden and Gabriel are finding that there's a fine line indeed between love and hate. How long can they expect to last in this terrifying new world, be it together or apart? Book one of Off the Grid 69,000 words

Not my favorite Cole, but there were several things I liked. Great atmosphere, good world building, fully developed characters, and the snowy remote location. Arden and Gabriel were an engaging couple in this post-apocalyptic romance.

It has to be said that this book has very little point, the first chapter is quite explosive and you think your into a rollercoaster of a ride but your not. It doesn't go anywhere, I fully acknowledge that this is book one in a series so it could be setting the scene and introducing you to the characters but I don't think I could read another sentence to be honest.

This was a good vacay read. She kind of lost me with the whole smooth, hairless chest of the hero and whiny drunk teenager, but I was giggling the whole way through and I promptly bought the rest of the trio. I loved Arden and Gabe and their banter and I just want more of Alyssa Cole‘s writing. So much fun!

Just finished this enjoyable post apocalypse romance. First heard about it on the Get Booked Podcast and was lucky to get the ebook on sale. This is a #diverseread and a great introduction to Alyssa Cole. Looking forward to reading another of her ebooks .

Just starting this on my Kobo. My first Alyssa Cole! #romantsy

leslieisreading I just finished this trilogy - loved it! 7y
BoldCityBooks How do you like your Kobo? 7y
RadicalReader @Lauredhel what is a kobo? Is it better than a Nook or Kindle? 7y

Lauredhel @optojake love it a whole lot. I looked hard at kindle but the incredibly constrained display options made me wince. With my H2O I have fine control over margins and line spacing, can adjust font weight, and can sideload my own fonts. The Calibre collections management is a must have for me too. 7y
Lauredhel @optojake also, library book borrowing (there is only one country in the world with kindle borrowing). Also, larger screen than any eink kindle. Also, waterproof: I can literally just run it under the tap if it's mucky or I spill coffee on it. (Re:nook: they don't sell them here anyhow.) (edited) 7y

Loved this one! A post-apocalyptic romance. Arden and her best friend John trek for 100 miles to his family's remote cabin after the power mysteriously goes out and society starts to break down. Once there, tension builds between Arden and John's older brother. Sexy tension! It's more about interpersonal dynamics under stress and forced proximity than it is about the apocalypse. If you're looking for action, there's not much. But it's so good!

It was a little tricky to find page 24 of my current ebook - it only counts the pages in each chapter, and then overall it goes by percent, not page number. Chapter 1 had 21 pages, so I figured page 3 of Chapter 2 was the equivalent. #page24ofyourcurrentread #readjanuary

I'm excited about my next read, a romance with a post-apocalyptic setting. An unusual niche in the romance genre! Or at least not one I'm familiar with.

EmilyAnne I reallllllly liked this one! 7y

Excited to start this trilogy after hearing Alyssa Cole last weekend at Book Riot Live! I'm laid up with bronchitis this weekend so it seems just the thing to distract me.

All three books in the Off the Grid series are on sale for $0.99 today! Cole writes award-winning, diverse historical, SFF & contemporary romances. This series is a rich, atmospheric trilogy of post-apocalyptic romances (I know, I was skeptical, too, but GREAT). POC MCs and book 2 is M/M. Very cool!

CoffeeK8 I just read the first one and it was so good! Totally stocking up on the next two books! 8y

Turns out apocalypse romance might not be my thing after all. I struggled to really care about any of the characters and wanted to know more about the apocalypse. It wasn't bad by any means, just not my thing.

A quick enjoyable read. Loved that the mystery of the "apocalypse" wasn't solved by the end. Looking forward to the next in the series.
