I don't really do thrillers so I was racking my brain to come up with something for this. Then I remembered that back in high school a friend and I used to trade Hammond Innes and Alistair Mclean novels. So here is a 70s edition of a Hammond Innes adventure set in the Australian outback (and the late great Ray Barrett on the cover). Thanks to our lovely hosts @Cinfhen and @eanderson for a fun month.

Some #OldCoolBooks catch up... #yellowedpages and #bookspines - these Tanith Lee books (1977-1981) either have really yellowed or maybe they always had yellow pages. The one in particular is pretty much turmeric coloured. 💛

American Family Receipt Book | Annie R. Gregory

I showed off this book a bit the first day of this challenge but published in 1902, it is my oldest cookbook and it has the most yellowed pages as it was well used by my great-grandmother & grandmother before being packed away for years. It's stained, yellowed & quite worn but I look at it as very well-loved. 💕

Childe Harold's Pilgrimage | George Gordon Byron Baron Byron

Lord Byron is one of my favorite romantic poets and I love this 1936 edition of Childe Harold's Pilgrimage. However, I don't know why the picture page of Lord Byron is white when the rest of the book's pages are yellow.

Lcsmcat I don‘t know the science behind it, but the glossy pages used for photos don‘t yellow like the rougher paper the words are printed on in any of my old books. 6y

CSeydel I would guess that the polymers that give it the glossy finish might protect it from oxygen? And oxygen reacting with the cellulose and lignin is what causes the yellowing. I think. 6y

I haven‘t been participating so far this month, but I‘ve enjoyed seeing all the posts for #OldCoolBooks. Today, I‘ve got one that is a bit worse for wear and has more than #yellowedpages. This retired St. Louis Public Library book stamped in 1914 is probably the oldest book I own.

I have had this book for many years. There are notations and a few notes left between the pages as well. The page ends are gold, but the pages are definitely #yellowedpages Thought you might appreciate seeing the cover. It was definitely read frequently and loved by the previous owner. #oldcoolbooks
