Memory has been an accidental major theme in my recent reading; as the four above books, all favorites, indicate. Memory plays a key role in any form of writing, fiction to nonfiction & all of the strange hybrid forms. In the books above the role of memory is more emphasized.

#WinterWonderland Day 21: #TryToRemember is our theme as girlfriends now that I am in Manila for the Christmas holidays. We have been friends for over 30 years now and counting. We were the original Sex and The City even before the show came out (we are missing another girlfriend based in Jersey City now). And yes, we fight like a girl.

The Unconsoled | Kazuo Ishiguro

I have yet to read this but look forward to, when my mood strikes. Ishiguro is known to write memorable stories that stays with you long after you‘ve finished the book (Never Let Me Go did that to me). The blurb says the story is about a renowned pianist, arriving in a Central European city he cannot seem to identify, for a concert he cannot remember agreeing to give, who later come to realise he is facing the most crucial performance of his life.

My New Years resolution - #trytoremember that finishing the night with shots is not my best idea. 😂

Feeling super ill today after last night‘s Christmas party- a progressive dinner with our friends in the street. Is that just an antipodean thing or do y‘all do this in the rest of the world too? We had a cocktail and different part of the meal at each house - lots of fun and then the tequila happened 🎅🤶🤢

Reggie Omg. And then tequila happened. A friend an I used to start our nights at this .75 tequila shots before 9p.m. bar. By 9 we were feeling no pain and would just coast the rest of the night. Sorry you‘re sick today but hope you had fun!!! 5y

Centique @Reggie that sounds memorable! 😁 It was an awesome night. Just 8 of us that all like to dance and have fun making good food and drinks for each other. Much better than a normal party where I have to do small talk with strangers. 5y

julesG Tequila is the magic word. I get hangover symptoms just typing it. 😁😁 We've done this 'travelling dinner', but it only works if friends live close by. 5y

I‘ve usually got a stack of books by my basement door waiting to be taken down to the shelves we have down there. And with our laundry down there, I make multiple trips a day. But as much as I #trytoremember to take the books down with me, I never do. Now I‘ve just made the problem worse by putting a book basket by the door. 😂 At least they look cuter now and are more contained. #winterwonderland

The joy of reading sometimes is finding words you recognise but still need to look up - vestigial 'forming a very small remnant of something that was once greater or more noticeable' - i am really enjoying this book, and totally absorbed in the story - I was wondering whether i cd think of anything to post today when i happened upon this extract and word. I think it works. I hope everyone is enjoying their Friday.

JazzFeathers That's why l try to write my reviews as soon as l finish the book. But to be very honest, l've noticed that NetGalley doesn't always offer good quality. Yes, l've stumbled upon some great books, but the ones l bailed on is a far greater number. What's your experience? Is it just me? 5y

julesG @JazzFeathers I normally write the review as soon as I finish the book, but I didn't have time to do it the past weeks. Also, wanted to let some time pass to not be too blunt, but apparently I have to be more blunt more often. Most books I bailed on this year were NetGalley books. But they get so much praise on Goodreads that I often wonder if the readers/reviewers actually read the books. 5y
