The male lead character seemed all too perfect (just what anyone wants in a romance novel, right?). I looooooooooooved this historical mystery set in 1907 Los Angeles. Our heroine Anna is like Tahani with less sexual experience. She's naive and clever and on the verge of losing her good reputation. Still, she finds a way to be a police matron and meets a wicked hot cop. The audiobook is brilliantly read by Moira Quirk. I'm in love.

I read this about 2 years ago and still one of my favorite series. Unfortunately, I have yet to read any of the others. This is so eloquently written. A lush mystery with amazing descriptions of North Carolina‘s marshlands. I‘ve never really wanted to visit a marsh until I read this book, which makes it seem better than a trip anywhere else. Being from the south, I get a lot of what goes on in this story. I fell in love with Kya and was so surprised at the ending. Very good. #reesewitherspoonbookclub #strongfemalelead

The world building is strong in this series. An interesting mix of very strong women, men and non-binary characters as well as interesting cultures and magic.
Sadly, the whole book read on the same level of suspense... Instead of not being able to put the book down, I stopped reading often during the middle of a chapter to do something else.
So good and bad points cancel out to "ok"
