A bit late for last week‘s #LitFortuneCookie

This one brought to mind Robin Williams and The Dead Poet‘s Society. A heavy and hard hitting book! A.so a great film.

@KVanRead

Thanks for the tag @Book_Fiend_Melissa

MsMelissa I‘ve never read the book, but I adore the movie. Great choice! 3y
Andrew65 @Book_Fiend_Melissa One of my favourite movies. 3y

I‘m super late with this—I‘ve been totally distracted by the election—but the prompt immediately made me think of the tagged middle grade book. It‘s the story of a girl who is hiking in a slot canyon with her father when there‘s a flash flood. They are separated & she loses all her gear. She has to believe in herself, trust her skills, & use everything she‘s learned to survive the night & find her father.

@KVanRead

KVanRead Sounds exciting! Thanks for playing 😊 3y

I definitely thought of Paul Atreides when I first read this fortune cookie! After he and his mother are stranded in the sands of Arrakis, he joins up with the Fremen and learns their ways, completely becoming integrated with them. This education saves both him and his mother! 💕📚

KVanRead Love this! Thanks for playing 😊 3y

@EadieB - Thanks for the tag! I‘ll tag: @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @TheSpineView

These 2 books and the authors represent “the ability to meet life‘s situations”. Both Crenshaw and Westover faced tragic situations and thrived despite their misfortunes. #litfortunecookie

MoonWitch94 I had no idea who he was until last year when Pete Davidson on SNL made his awful comment & then invited him on the show to apologize. What a good sport! Had no idea he wrote a book! Thanks for posting. I may have to check it out. 3y
Eggs @MoonWitch94 I hope you‘re able to read Fortitude !! I think it‘s his first book-he‘s truly a patriot 3y
MoonWitch94 @Eggs is it an autobiography or about his political views? 3y

It‘s been a while since I‘ve read it, but as I recall there‘s quite a bit of this sort of education in the tagged book.

Thank you for this #LitFortuneCookie @KVanRead 😊

The first character who came to mind for me was Scout Finch from “To Kill a Mockingbird”. Scout learns many hard lessons in the book... life is often not fair, justice isn‘t always served, and bad things can happen to good people. 😔 While Scout‘s education is not a happy one, it does open her eyes to the grim realities of life, and helps her to be more discerning in what she chooses to believe.

Annie1215 Such a perfect choice! 3y
jb72 I love that book. I named my dog Scout. 3y
Branwen Woooooow! What a perfect choice, my friend! 😀👏 3y

Reggie @8little_paws I think about this book A LOT. It is terrific! 3y
Reggie @kspenmoll @Leftcoastzen @readordierachel it does a great job of humanizing people who are mostly negatively filtered through politics and media. These women are brave and intelligent. 3y
kspenmoll I just ordered it. My husband is a retired journalist so I think he will want to read this as well. Thanks!!! 3y

The Story of My Life | Helen Keller

I couldn‘t think of any fictional characters off the top of my head. What came to mind was what learning to read/communicate meant for Helen Keller. A whole world opened up for her that was always there but until then inaccessible.

#litfortunecookie

Want to give it a go @Chrissyreadit and tag a book that fits the theme of the fortune cookie?

KVanRead What a wonderful choice! Thanks for playing 😊 3y
Crazeedi I read this in my youth if you want a good book! 3y
Ruthiella @Crazeedi Thanks! I read it as a kid. I also saw the play and much later on TV the movie with Patty Duke. Such an inspiring, true story. 😀 3y
