Chapter 14: Lucy gets roped into playing a part in the play, and has to practice locked in the creepy attic 🐀 🪲 following the play is a ball and Lucy gets a peek at Genevra‘s crushes…. #someofyousawthatcoming #ididnot #genevraistrouble #pemberlittens

Clare-Dragonfly The creepy attic scene is so weird! 😂 That teacher should have known better. As for Ginevra‘s crush… come on, Lucy, I see you‘re jealous but if he likes Ginevra that much he clearly isn‘t worth your notice! 1y
Bookwormjillk That was a very long chapter! The play was like a nap dream. Roped into acting then locked in an attic. Maybe I should stop skipping the parts in French and this book would make more sense 😂 1y

RebelReader @Bookwormjillk I wish I spoke French because it throws me off and I skip over it too. Once I saw the rat I would have been out of that attic! Was I the only one who didn‘t guess Isadore‘s true identity? 1y
IndoorDame @RebelReader @Bookwormjillk feeling very grateful to be reading an edition with the French translated in the endnotes or I‘d be lost! 1y
BarkingMadRead @RebelReader I had no idea! I was shocked! @IndoorDame I found a page that had translations for each chapter and I‘ve been following along like that! 1y
IndoorDame I was shocked too! I suspected him of being with a student for a minute a few chapters back, but he totally had me convinced yesterday that he was a decent guy 1y
peanutnine @Bookwormjillk @RebelReader so much French in this chapter! I used to take French and can still decently translate the written language but I'm listening to the audiobook and they talk way too fast for me to understand! 😅 1y
peanutnine Also I had a feeling that he might be Isadore, it seemed a convenient plot device for Lucy to get involved lol 1y
suvata @Bookwormjillk I‘m reading on Kindle and I have become quite familiar with the translation feature. 1y
suvata There is a lot of creepy stuff going on in this chapter — creepy attic, creepy doctor … 1y
BarkingMadRead @suvata I agree! So much creepiness everywhere 1y
Ruthiella @Clare-Dragonfly I agree. Dr. John isn‘t worth falling for if he can think that vain, empty-headed Ginevra is worth pursuing. 😬 1y
KristiAhlers And we get to the “gothic” portion of a Brontë read! 1y
KristiAhlers @peanutnine there is a lot! I‘m reading it on my kindle so when my years of living in Belgium fail me I can rely on the translation part. I‘m happy to report I didn‘t have to use it too much this chapter. 1y
Bklover The attic thing was creepy creepy creepy. He locked her in and she just let him! And Dr John gives me the creeps too. Oh, and @suvata - I couldn‘t manage either without the translate feature on kindle! 1y
suvata @KristiAhlers love the gothic parts 🖤 1y
Clare-Dragonfly @Bklover Yeah, I was astonished that our brave Lucy just went along with the play and with being locked in the attic! But the actual play scene where she gets fully into her drag persona redeemed it for me 😂 (it felt very gay! But she‘s definitely into Dr. John, not Ginevra) 1y
Bklover @Clare-Dragonfly Good point! I did enjoy that part as well! 1y
rubyslippersreads I‘m just now catching up. Lucy being locked in a closet reminds me of Jane Eyre being locked in the Red Room. 😳 1y
BarkingMadRead @rubyslippersreads Omg the red room 😳😳 1y
