It‘s a chilly, windy day here in Florida but we can still take a trip to the beach!

#ItTakesAllKinds #WithMap gotta love a book with a map! I don‘t think even in my hiking prime I could walk this backbone trail of California, as the map indicates Colin Fletcher walked north from Yuma to Oregon from March 8th to September 8th. book was published in 1964, not sure what year he walked it.

Eggs Amazing trek👏🏻👏🏻 1mo
Bookwomble Wikipedia says he did the walk in 1958 😊🥾🥾 https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Thousand-Mile_Summer 1mo

Pickpick

For #readingtheamericas2023 I selected this title for Belize. This isn't a book that has a lot to teach or focused on a serious topic. This is just fun and light and an escape. Quick read and the county came to life for me through the eyes of our FMC. #bookspin @Librarybelle @BarbaraBB @TheAromaofBooks

Librarybelle Sometimes the light books for escape are the best type of books! 11mo
BarbaraBB It‘s good to have a book for Belize anyhow! 11mo
TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!! 11mo

Sun‘s just up and I‘m the only one awake. Here's my Christmas haul (we open presents at midnight) : tagged book, an anthology of Gulf poetry, Babel or the Necessity of violence, and L‘archipel du gouache (travel/cookbook in former USSR states) 👍🥳😛

Ruthiella Nice stack! 🎄👍 1y
Liz_M Beautiful tree and nice book haul! Merry Christmas. 1y
Dilara @Ruthiella Thank you! Merry Christmas 😁

@Liz_M Thanks! Daughter and son-in-law decorated it on the 24th, just in the nick of time! Merry Christmas to you too :-)

Meh. I enjoy accounts of adventure and challenging outdoorsmanship, generally, and this stirred a longing to go for a hike, sure. A little. But boy, some of the GR reviews are brutal! You guys: this was a 21yo middle-class girl who kept a trail journal and made it a book. Why all the hate? If you choose to pick up a memoir, you‘re choosing to know that person‘s thoughts/feelings/reactions. Spoiler: You can, you know, just put the book down. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

First book to finish this year! Not very wintery but I started it on a holiday so I guess that‘s alright.

Richard follows a secret map to a paradise beach in Thailand. He soon adapts to the life there and tries to protect it at all costs. Unfortunately, it cannot be protected forever…

It started slow but it was captivating as I was living this experience as Richard. Definitely a pick if you haven‘t seen the movie!

I read this with my book group. Sadly it wasn‘t my cup of tea. I couldn‘t engage with it although I think it‘s well written and even easy to read. The ending just left me thinking, well, what was that all about, then? Much ado about nothing. 🤷‍♀️

#LitsySummerCamp Day 5

I read the tagged book more than once way back in the day. The fact that I still remember doing so is testament to the story. I did read that it wasn‘t all factual a few years ago which is a shame but doesn‘t lessen the nostalgia I feel when thinking about this book. The pics are from the Iao Valley on Maui. Not a long hike but so peaceful and serene.

ImperfectCJ I love looking at people's photos from Hawaii hikes! One day I'll get there for some hiking of my own. 3y

Today we are exploring the AT- here at Camp we work on recognizing goals begin with just a few steps. (One of my goals is to overcome the limits of chronic pain and walk the AT from Harpers Ferry to Maine). I‘m lucky my camp is only a half hour from the Conservancy Headquarters. Here is a link with info about it: https://appalachiantrail.com/places/appalachian-trail-conservancys-headquarters/ #litsysummercamp

AmyG My cousin has walked the AT. I am going to your camp next summer. I‘d love to do this. 3y
ImperfectCJ I love your challenge! I've hiked sections of the AT in VT, VA, and NC, but only day hikes. I keep holding myself back from doing more by thinking I have to do all or none, but that's just not true, is it? 3y
Butterfinger I'm surrounded by trails. I love the idea of 1 hike a week. Thanks @Chrissyreadit 3y
MegaWhoppingCosmicBookwyrm The AT is on my bucket list. I‘d like to do it all in one go, but no one I know is insane enough to go all in with me. 😅 3y
Chrissyreadit @MegaWhoppingCosmicBookwyrm I will meet you halfway…. 3y
